Fabulous and delicious, Cake offers the Saratoga region custom cakes for any occasion. Owner and Pastry Chef
spends time with every client to ensure each cake is unique and the perfect fit. Born in Massachusetts and raised in New Hampshire, she fell in love with food at some point during her teenage years. She spent many childhood days in the kitchen alongside her mother, and discovered a true passion for baking. Cake started in Alissa’s kitchen in Schuylerville. She would create cakes for friends and family and eventually got so many requests that she decided to make it official. She now does cakes for every occasion from birthdays to weddings and of course cupcakes. Some say her cakes are not your traditional grocery store cake but more hip and trendy in their look and flavor. She has a large variety of interesting flavors and fillings such as espresso chocolate, luscious lemon, strawberry mousse and now her latest creation which is a gluten-free chocolate that is fantastic. The cupcakes are a hit with flavors such as Boston cream and mojito and they make great gifts. It’s important to Alissa that she uses local farm-fresh ingredients such as milk from the Battenkill Valley Creamery and eggs from a neighbor’s farm in Schuylerville.
For further information you can visit her website at

Fly FishingMANCHESTER Renowned
fly fisherman Tom Rosenbauer will discuss his
new book, “The Orvis Guide to Small Stream Fly Fishing” at 7
p.m. on Saturday, May 7,
at the Northshire Bookstore in Manchester.
Tom Rosenbauer, the author of 15 other books on fly fishing, was named Fly Rod & Reel magazine’s 2011 Angler of the Year. He believes that today’s anglers have a greater desire to get close to nature while staying closer to home.
“The Orvis Guide to Small Stream Fly Fishing” pro-vides all the information needed to find unspoiled gems found everywhere from wilderness areas to suburban backyards.
The book explains the small stream environment, how to find these streams, how small-stream trout behave, how to read the water and how to present the fly in all types of small streams. It enables anglers to find and catch wild trout far off the beaten path.
Rosenbauer has taught tens of thousands of anglers everything from how to tie on a fly to the best way to fool the most finicky trout. He has hosted fly fishing shows on TV, and his pod-cast “The Orvis Fly Fishing Guide” is one of the most popular titles on iTunes.
For this presentation, he will focus on where and how people can catch trout in small streams all over New England, including within 100 yards of the Northshire Bookstore. The event is free and open to all. For more information, call the book-store at 802-362-2200.
