Request and Response: Request: I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, to request more detailed information relating to the West Midlands mayoral election and the count conducted on 5 May 2017. Can you please provide counts of votes given to each candidate in the first round and second round, broken down by each polling district or electoral ward in Sandwell MBC. I understand that during the count these numbers will have been recorded before being totalled and sent to the Combined Authority Returning Officer. This information is in addition to the local authority total published at http://www.wmcaelects.co.uk/results/ I would appreciate the data in CSV or spreadsheet format, but PDF is acceptable.

Response: I write in response to your recent FOI request about the above. The Freedom of Information Act does not list any person appointed under the Representation of the People Act 1983. The Electoral Registration Officer, Returning Officer or any other person appointed under the Act are therefore not subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act. However, as the information you ask for is not restricted and relatively simple to identify, in as far as we have it, see my response below and the attached spreadsheet.

We did not count by ward. What we did was mix 2 wards together with 1,100 mixed postal votes and conducted 12 mini counts as we have 24 wards, as follows. We are not required by law to count by individual ward hence it suited us to mix 2 wards together. Please see detailed spreadsheet attached.
