July 2020 Brothers and Sisters of Wyoming and beyond. Congratulaons are in store for an awesome year. I have been able to witness Brother Knights and their families rally for their priest, their parish, their Council and other Brother Knights throughout the year. I am proud to be able to call each of you my Brother. Check out the winners of the awards from last year later in the bullen. My understanding is the vong was close and quite compeve. Congrats to all who entered. When we can come together for a common cause we have proven that great things can be done. What beer way to exhibit the 2 nd cornerstone of the Knights of Columbus: Unity. Connue the good work you do. Earlier this month we also celebrated with everyone in our Naon. We do not see the same Unity that we see within most Knights and that is okay. I recently had a quote from St John Paul II shared with me. It made me really stop and ponder how we can embrace it. Freedom consists not in doing what we like but in having the right to do what we ought. St John Paul II I would have loved to be able to sit down with St JPII (at any me really) and discuss this with him. This quote is a fairly simple definion to follow. I believe it can be misconstrued by the last poron do what we ought”. I believe the Catholic faith and more specifically the Knights have a strong moral compass and guidelines to give this poron the structure needed to live by. I also believe that the Knights have the oughtfigured out. We are able to care for the less fortunate with our charitable works, we teach our chil- dren a correct moral compass by our faith in acons, we have access to great insurance to assist our families should something happen to the head of the household. Brothers, I know you are the pillars of your parish and communies, and I cannot thank you enough for your dedicaon to your faith and families. I urge you to share our benefits and programs with ones that are not a member of the Knights much less than a Catholic believer. We have long been a group of guys that are si- lent about who we are and what we do. I get excited each month to be able to reach out to you about pro- grams or share snippets of how these programs have influenced me. I would challenge you to share a story of a Knights program with us through the Cowboy Bullen that influenced me. Keep in mind the last me I threw a challenge out to you I received only a single response. Can we have too many stories to print them all in one issue? I think there are, but I am reluctant to say as we will have to many since we have a take the summer offmentality. Let us put our editor, Steve, to work for the August bullen. When it comes right down to it, I know each and everyone of you are busy. We all are. The fact that you are reading this is a tesmony to your dedicaon to and support of the Knights of Columbus. I am proud of you and of our accomplishments. Fraternally in Christ. Bret Ladenburger Wyoming State Deputy [email protected] 307-760-1003

Brothers and Sisters of Wyoming and beyond.

Congratulations are in store for an awesome year. I have been able to witness Brother Knights and their families rally for their priest, their parish, their Council and other Brother Knights throughout the year. I am proud to be able to call each of you my Brother. Check out the winners of the awards from last year later in the bulletin. My understanding is the voting was close and quite competitive. Congrats to all who entered. When we can come together for a common cause we have proven that great things can be done. What better way to exhibit the 2nd cornerstone of the Knights of Columbus: Unity. Continue the good work you do.

Earlier this month we also celebrated with everyone in our Nation. We do not see the same Unity that we see within most Knights and that is okay. I recently had a quote from St John Paul II shared with me. It made me really stop and ponder how we can embrace it.

Freedom consists not in doing what we like but in having the right to do what we ought. St John Paul II

I would have loved to be able to sit down with St JPII (at any time really) and discuss this with him. This quote is a fairly simple definition to follow. I believe it can be misconstrued by the last portion “do what we ought”. I believe the Catholic faith and more specifically the Knights have a strong moral compass and guidelines to give this portion the structure needed to live by. I also believe that the Knights have the “ought” figured out. We are able to care for the less fortunate with our charitable works, we teach our chil-dren a correct moral compass by our faith in actions, we have access to great insurance to assist our families should something happen to the head of the household.

Brothers, I know you are the pillars of your parish and communities, and I cannot thank you enough for your dedication to your faith and families. I urge you to share our benefits and programs with ones that are not a member of the Knights much less than a Catholic believer. We have long been a group of guys that are si-lent about who we are and what we do. I get excited each month to be able to reach out to you about pro-grams or share snippets of how these programs have influenced me. I would challenge you to share a story of a Knights program with us through the Cowboy Bulletin that influenced me. Keep in mind the last time I threw a challenge out to you I received only a single response. Can we have too many stories to print them all in one issue? I think there are, but I am reluctant to say as we will have to many since we have a “take the summer off” mentality. Let us put our editor, Steve, to work for the August bulletin.

When it comes right down to it, I know each and everyone of you are busy. We all are. The fact that you are reading this is a testimony to your dedication to and support of the Knights of Columbus. I am proud of you and of our accomplishments.

Fraternally in Christ.

I would like to thank all of the people who bought tickets and the councils that donated to the cause. About $2050 was raised. The state council matched this amount. Thank you to the State Council Knights of Columbus. The winners of the drawing were as follows. Pepper Ottman of Riverton won the Chest. Daney Ready of Thermopolis won the 100 dollars and donated the money back to the State Right to Life Fund. John Miller won the 50 dollars, and he stated he would donate the money to the Riverton Pregnancy Center. Dave Mischke of Worland also won 50 dollars. It looks fishy but all tickets were in and Seminarian Seth Hostetler drew the tickets out. Again thanks. My wife and I have volunteered to try this again next year. God Bless, Maynard Bills

In February, Council 9917 in Casper volunteered at the USI House in Casper to clean and paint the kitchen on the boy's side of the facility. USI stands for Unaccompanied Student Initiative. The organization has been working to update this house in Casper to provide homes for homeless high school students. It will be able to house 4 girls and 6 boys for this upcoming school year. The girls’ side of the house has been completed so Council 9917, along with St. Patrick's Parish, has agreed to help with updating the kitchen/great room area on the boys’ side. After the painting and cleaning was completed in February, remodel efforts slowed down due to the COVID-19 issues. In June, members from 9917 again were asked to remove the existing kitchen cabinets and appliances so new ones could be installed. The new cabinets and appliances were installed by a local Casper Busi-nessman. Some decorating and final touches are still being made but the facility should be ready for students in the next few weeks.

CEREMONIAL NEWS

Brother Knights-Please look forward to on-line exemplifications sponsored by Supreme in

their weekly email messages. It’s a great way to start the new Fraternal Year. Your Councils

should vote on potential candidates prior to signing them up for the new ceremonial. I

would like to see some Councils or Districts set up a team so we can begin our own ceremo-

nials. The script can be found under KofC.org. Let me know if you are forming a team!!

For more information about conducting the new degree exemplification,

Contact:

Mike Dahl, Ceremonials Director at: 307-875-7831 (home)

307-871-1030 (cell) [email protected]

To schedule a Fourth Degree, Contact:

District Master, Robert Taylor @ 307-321-0357.

Please feel free to make any submissions to [email protected]. I will do my best to put out an issue of The Cowboy Bulletin every month, but I need your help to know what’s going on out there. Upcoming events, council projects or sharing ideas that could benefit other councils, are all things we as Knights are interested in hearing about. Remember that we are Brother Knights, united in one cause.

“Monthly Challenge from the Supreme Chaplain”

THIS MONTH'S CHALLENGE

JULY 2020

“No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son

and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.” (Gospel for July 5, Mt 11:27)

Have you ever known a man who was just like his father; who not only looked like him, but also

acted, spoke and thought like him? Jesus is the very image of his Father and reveals the Father to

us. By striving to know God the Son more intimately — through prayer, the Mass, the sacraments

and Scripture — we also come to know God the Father more intimately. May we better understand

the Father’s love for us and model our own fatherhood after his.

Challenge by Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William E. Lori:

This month, I challenge you to commit to at least one hour each week in prayer before Jesus in

the tabernacle, spending some of this time meditating on God the Father. Second, I challenge you

to work with your brother Knights to implement the Faith in Action Holy Hour program in order to

help others grow closer to Christ.

FAITH IN ACTION

INTO THE BREACH

A Higher Purpose

Deepen members' spirituality and formation to combat the crisis of religious faith in our world

through instituting men’s study groups to read the Apostolic Exhortation Into the Breach and use

copies of the Into the Breach Booklet (#340) as a resource.

Overview

In his Apostolic Exhortation Into the Breach, Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted outlines the challenges

faced by men of faith in the world today. Into the Breach is a call to battle for Catholic men which

urges them to wholeheartedly embrace masculine virtues in a world at crisis. By reading and dis-

cussing Bishop Olmsted’s inspirational words and the accompanying study guide with like-minded

men of faith, councils will prayerfully examine the enormous breach in the battle line that lies before

them. In doing so, they will begin to devise a personal plan of spiritual battle.

PRAYER FOR THE POPE

Heavenly Father, be pleased to bless and protect our Holy Father, Pope Francis, whom you have chosen as the successor of St. Peter as the chief minister of the unity and charity in the Church. Keep him safe in holiness of life and in wise fulfillment of his awesome responsibili-ties.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen

PRAYER FOR THE BISHOP

Heavenly Father, in these trying times when the spirit of the age threatens Christian values, give our bishop holiness of life and wisdom to direct and guide our diocesan family so that we may grow in your love.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen

PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

Heavenly Father, bless and protect priests and fill them with the joy and courage of their vocation as personal ministers of Christ in preaching your word, forming communities in your name and nourishing us with the Sacraments.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

Heavenly Father, bless your Church with an abundance of holy and zealous priests, dea-cons, brothers and sisters.

Give those you have called to the married state and those you have chosen to live as sin-gle persons in the world, the special graces that their lives required.

Form us all in the likeness of your Son so that in him, with him and through him we may love you more deeply and serve you more faithfully, always and everywhere.

With Mary we ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

THE MEMORARE

Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help and sought thy intercessions, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee I come, before thee I stand sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen

Here’s a collection of prayers that may be handy for use at your council meetings
