Are you ready to ramp up your recycling know-how? Join us for this workshop to go deeper into the do’s and don’ts of recycling. Come ready with all your recycling questions! You may select from two times for this program when you register. Each program will cover the same information:

• Friday, April 9th from 10:30-11:45am • Tuesday, April 13th from 6:30pm-7:45pm

Get Your Garden Growin’ Green – April 15th @ 12pm Are you getting excited for the growing season? From plant selection to fertilizing, watering, mowing and more – learn how you can turn your garden into an eco-friendly oasis that is good for you, local wildlife, and the planet!

Celebrating Earth Day Every Day – SCARCE Virtual Tour April 19th @ 12pm Kick off Earth Week with a tour around SCARCE where we celebrate Earth Day every day! Get a glimpse behind the scenes of our Reuse Center, and learn all about our recycling projects, community partnerships and Environmental Learning Center.

Arbor Day Tribute to Trees April 29th @ 2pm Join us for a tree-themed workshop in honor of Arbor Day! Trees provide shade, filter water, clean our air, provide countless resources, and absorb carbon dioxide to help fight climate change. Learn more fascinating facts about these amazing organisms and how you can help trees thrive!

The La Grange Park Sustainability Commission is hosting two virtual events to celebrate Earth Day. Both presentations will be held virtually and include opportunities for Q&A. Visit the Village’s Events Calendar for meeting links and more information.

La Grange Celebrates Earth Day - the Village of La Grange and the La Grange Environmental Quality Commission invite you to participate in a scavenger hunt to find ways that La Grange is going green! First 50 people to bring their results to Denning Park (4903 Willow Springs Road) on Sunday, April 18, between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m will receive an oak tree sapling.

April 20 - 21

Earth Day weekend (April 20 and 21), the Forest Preserve District of Cook County will hold special events and volunteer workdays to celebrate the occasion and many opportunities are open to the general public to volunteer at a Forest Preserve District location near you. Here is the link to those opportunities.

April 21 Green Speakers Series at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights. Further information at (708) 709-3764.

April 24

Pharmaceutical disposal station sponsored by the Department of Environmental Control from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in lobby of the George Dunne Administrative Building, 60 W. Washington. Accepted items include unwanted prescription medications with labels removed, over-the-county medications, medicated liquids and creams, and glass thermometers containing mercury.

April 26

Cook County Annual Earth Day Parks and Preserves Cleanup, including Textile and Electronics Recycling. Join the Forest Preserves of Cook County and the County’s Department of Environmental Control at Whistler Woods in Riverdale, 480 Acme Drive, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a morning cleanup followed by a celebration with activities including art making, nature hikes and more.

April 26

Earth Day Workday and Celebration at Deer Grove West Forest Preserve in Palatine. Cook County Chief Sustainability Officer Deborah Stone will speak on highlights of the County’s sustainability work. Work hands-on, removing brush to restore habitat in this beautiful oak woods. Sponsors include Friends of Deer Grove, Forest Preserves of Cook County, Openlands, Sierra Club Northwest Cook County Group and Friends of the Forest Preserves. Meet at Deer Grove West Forest Preserve Grove #5 beginning at 9:00 a.m. Entrance is on the west side of Quentin Road, north of Dundee Road, in Palatine.

Environmental Control will participate in Northbrook’s Earth/Arbor Day event at the Northbrook Village Green, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A radon awareness display will be on site and the County will offer information on home testing. Radon testing kits will be on sale at a discount. Further information on testing your home for radon at (708) 865-6177.
