Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier showed in 2012, that the bacterial defence system could be turned into a ‘cut and paste’ tool for editing gene sequences. The tool is cheaper, less laborious than other available tools for editing genes and is more precise. Beyond just reading and synthesizing gene sequences, CRISPR empowered scientists to edit genes to modify and correct changes. “Gene editing technology can help eliminate human inherited disease, protect endangered species, address climate change and improve crops for resilience and better yields. Of the various gene editing techniques, CRISPR is widely accepted and adopted due to its simplicity as well as efficiency. Asia Pacific is considered to be a prominent region for gene editing providers. Dr Shivendra Bajaj, Executive Director, Federation of Seed Industry of India(FSII) said,” The technology can have the most positive impact in agriculture. The CBI will take him in custody on November 26 and bring him back to Banda jail, where he is currently lodged, on November 30, district government counsel Manoj Kumar said. While passing the order, additional district and sessions judge (V) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Court Rizwan Ahmad said the CBI must follow all Covid-19 protocols. UP CM Adityanath warns against harassment in name of Covid-19 protocols Lucknow, Harassment in the name of Covid-19 protocols will not be tolerated, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath told officials on Thursday as he asked them to create awareness and encourage people to follow the guidelines. The chief minister warned of stern action if complaints were received, an official spokesperson said here. Adityanath also clarified that there is no requirement for police or administrative permission for organising wedding functions, the official said. Wedding functions can be held by complying with necessary Covid-19 protocols and guidelines, the spokesman said, adding that workers and band group members are exempted from the restrictions on such events. The chief minister has warned of strict action against officials and policemen stopping use of DJs and bands in weddings, he added. On Monday, the Uttar Pradesh government issued fresh guidelines restricting the number of people attending an indoor event (outside containment zones) to 100. Similarly, in the case of outdoor programmes, less than 40 per cent of the area of the venue will be allowed to be occupied by people. In both the scenarios, use of face masks, sanitisers, thermal scanning and maintaining social distancing are mandatory. The chief minister warned of stern action if complaints were received, an official spokesperson said here.

Madhya Pradesh: Govt watchdog to check contentand filming of scenes in movies and series

Bhopal, The MadhyaPradesh (MP) government willkeep an eye on the contentand scenes of movies andserials filmed at the holy andhistorical places in the state,said Narottam Mishra, the MPhome minister, on Tuesday.The state government tookthis decision after there wasa controversy over a kissingscene in a web series ASuitable Boy, based on VikramSeth’s novel of the samename, which was filmed atMaheshwar Temple inKhargone district. An FIR hasbeen registered at Rewaagainst two executives ofstreaming platform Netflix forallegedly insulting religioussentiments.

Mishra said, “We havedirected the district officers torecord videos of the shootingof movies and series inheritage buildings and holyplaces of MP.” “Obscenepictures can’t be filmed at holyplaces. A team of officers willcheck scenes and content. Incase of any mistake andviolation, the director and

producer will be heldresponsible and the districtadministration will take actionagainst them,” said Mishra.

According to an officer oftourism department, “Strictguidelines will be formed tocheck the content and scenes.The entertainment companywill have to adhere to theguidelines while shooting inMP.” However, people in thetourism industry say it willdissuade the entertainmentindustry from choosing MP forshooting. A tourism companyowner Akshay Hunka said,“We are also not in a favourof such scenes which hurt anykind of sentiments, but suchguidelines, producers anddirectors will not choosedestinations in MP forshooting.” Congressspokesperson JP Dhanopiasaid, “The formulation ofguidelines is a good step but itshouldn’t be against thefreedom of expression andspeech. In the name ofkeeping an eye on such things,the BJP-led state governmentwill do moral policing.”

Theweekly train will provideseamless connectivity amongfarmers, markets andconsumers. All the requiredmeasures have been taken tosafely transport perishablevegetables and fruits. Anyfarmer, or any otherinterested party, can directlybook their consignments onthis train without any lowerlimit on the size of theconsignment. Theconsignment can be as smallas 50-100 kgs, and can bebooked from any stoppingstation to any other stoppingstation. Shri Thakur statedthat the Kisan Rail is a partof the Central Government’scommitment to increase theincome of farmers. It wasannounced to run the KisanRail in the 2020-21 budget,in which per ishableagricultural products likevegetables and fruits can be

transported in a short timefrom one city to another.Looking at the commercialdemand for transportation ofOnion and Potatoes, as wellas perishable fruits andvegetables, it was decided torun ‘Kisan Rail’ special train,under the Operation Greenas a part of AatmanirbharBharat Abhiyan. Bihar: Cops rescue womandoctor abducted in Sitamarhi

Patna, The police rescueda woman doctor fromneighbouring Madhubanidistrict late Wednesday withinfive hours of her abductionfrom Sitamarhi. Confirmingthe action, Sitamarhisuperintendent of Police AnilKumar said that the womandoctor had been safelyrescued from her abductorswhile they were trying to fleeto a safer place. “As soon asI got the information aboutthe abduction, I talked toMadhubani SP Satyaprakashseeking his help to nab theabductors as they wereheading towards Madhubanidistrict with the doctor. Oneof our teams, led by ASPSitamarhi, was already ontheir trail,” said the SP.

The doctor waskidnapped along with herdriver in her own vehicle atgunpoint by two men, whenshe was returning to herresidence from her nursing

home on Wednesdayevening. Kumar added thatthe abductors’ van (whichwas the doctor’s own vehicle)was intercepted nearChanpure mor (turn) onBasaith Madhwapur sectionon DKBM Road.

“The abductors left thevehicle before trying toescape after spotting thepolice team, led by thestation house officer ofBenipatti police station inneighbouring Madhubanidistrict. The policemennabbed them after chasingthem for nearly one kilometreand rescued the doctor,identified as Dr DaiseyJaiswal, a resident ofSitamarhi town,” Kumar said.Talking to HT, SP MadhubaniSatyaprakash said, “Weprovided all assistance, thedoctor was handed over toASP Sitamarhi after asuccessful operation,” hesaid.

Kolkata, The MamataBanerjee administration inWest Bengal has made itmandatory for governmentofficials to attend office onThursday to foil the BharatBandh ca l led by t radeunions. The governmenthas warned that if anyofficial is absent from office,it would be treated as diesnon or break in service. Thisis, however, not the firsttime that the governmenthas taken such a stand sincethe Trinamool Congress-ledgovernment came to powerin 2011.

The nationwide strike hasbeen jo int ly ca l led byvar ious centra l un ionsprotesting against variouspolicies of the government.More than 250 mi l l ionworkers from across thecountry are expected toparticipate in the Bandh.“The Bengal governmenthas its own views on someof the issues for which thestrike has been called. Thegovernment is also againstthe Bandh culture. Hence ithas been decided that allgovernment off ices wil lremain open and attendanceof employees wi l l bemandatory,” said a topofficial in the government.

The strike began at 6amThursday. Railway servicesin both Howrah and Sealdahdivisions were disrupted asBandh supporters blockedtrains at multiple places and

stations across the state.Banana leaves were hurledon overheard wires todisrupt power so that trainscouldn’t operate. Therewere very few taxis at thepre-paid taxis stands andpassengers had to wait toget one. In some places,such as Garia in southKolkata, there were reportsthat protesters hurled bricksat government buses,breaking the windshields, ina bid to stop them. In someplaces, bus passengerswere forced to get down byBandh supporters. “The buspassengers were neverforced. We urged them toget down. This is a people’sBandh,” said a Bandhsupporter, request inganonymity. In the morning,Left and Congress supporterstook to the streets in Kolkatato back the all-India strikecall and blocked arterialroads and busy intersections.There was heavy policedeployment to maintain lawand order. Heatedaltercations also broke outbetween the police andBandh supporters.
