GHS implementation in Indonesia
Indonesia has been cooperating with UNITAR (United Nations for Training and Research) to run project cover in:
I.GHS project phase I (2005-2007)
Granted to the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (NADFC / Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan)
Scope of project: training and capacity building for the implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals. It Consists of 3 phase activities:

Gap analysis

II. GHS project phase II (2010-2013)
Granted to Ministry of Industry (MOI)
Scope or project: training and capacity building for the implementation GHS of classification and labelling of chemicals
It Consists of 2 phase activities:Updating the National GHS strategy :
Completion and entry into force GHS implementing legislation
Training and stakeholder workshops
Supporting activities for stakeholders and participate at regional and international communication

In 2011, Training, Capacity Building, Coordination Meeting with stakeholders:1. Coordination meeting in Jakarta, 5 days, @30 stakeholders
2. Coordination meeting in West Java, 5 days, @20 stakeholders
3. Technical training in Jakarta with UNITAR, 3 days, 120 participants
4. Technical training in Serpong, 2 days, 100 participants

In 2012, the Activities covered:
a.Compiling draft of Decree of Minister of Industry No. 23/M-IND/PER/4/2013 concerning GHS of Classification and Labelling on Chemicals
b.Compiling draft of Decree of Directorate General of Manufacturing Industry Basis concerning Technical and Controlling Instruction of GHS
c.Techical training for personnels of industry with GHS taskforce team:
• Jakarta, 5 days x 75 participants• Surabaya, 1 day, 20 Participants• Batam, 1 day, 20 participant

Upcoming Activities in 2013
• Based on Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), the project will be conducted in December 2010 – early February 2013
• Yet, project will be postponed by Februari 2013 – June 2013
Activities cover• Publish UN GHS Purple Book, Comic, and
Leaflet• Construction website for national single window• Coordination meeting with related stakeholders

GHS Application
Single substance chemicals both for domestic production
and import are compulsory required to implement GHS
ever since March 24th, 2010
Chemical Mixtures are voluntarily required to implement
GHS, however after December 31st, 2016, mixtures both
for domestic production and import are compulsory
required to implement GHS. Exemption: Small Medium
Enterprise (SME)
Companies especially MNCs and export’s manufacturers
have implemented Safety Data Sheet and Labels based
on GHS
