another summer means another three months of work shirts drenched in sweat, awkward man sandals and hibiscus-print shirts fit for Boca Raton, right? Nope, not this year. What if there was a way to strip down your summer wardrobe to, say, 10 things that pretty much always look great? There is, and we enlisted our fashion editor, Sachin Bhola, and Tyler Thoreson, VP of Editorial and Cre-ative for Gilt MAN and Park & Bond, to guide our way. Here’s what they had to say about summer essentials for men. Take notes, junior.

Whether you opt for tra-ditional rubber thongs (very comfortable) or slides with cork or leather soles and beaded uppers, the flip flop will keep your feet feeling, and looking, cool. Whether it’s for sunbathing or swimming, the hottest colours for the sum-mer are pink, pistachio or silver.

But don’t forget a good selection of basic black, white and beige vests will always stand you in good stead, keeping you cool when the temperature rises.

A swimsuit, bathing suit, swimming costume, tog, bathers, or

cossie (short for “costume”) is an item of clothing designed to be worn

by men, women or children while they are engaging in a water-based

activity or water sports, such as swimming, water polo, diving, surfing,

water skiing, or during activities in the sun, such as sun bathing.

A swimsuit can be worn as an undergarment in sports that require a

wetsuit such as water skiing, scuba diving, surfing, and wakeboarding.

Swimsuits are also worn when there is a need to display the body, as

in the case of beauty pageants or bodybuilding contests. Glamour pho-

tography and magazines like the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit

Issue feature models and sports personalities in swimsuits.

There is a very wide range of styles of modern swimsuits, which vary

in relation to body coverage and materials. The choice of style of

swimsuit is dependent on current fashions and community standards

of modesty, as well as on personal preferences.

Page 11: free people

In western culture, men’s swimsuit styles include boardshorts,

jammers, swim trunks, briefs or “speedos”, thongs, and g-strings, in

order of decreasing lower body coverage.

Women’s swimsuits are generally described as one-piece, bikinis, or

thongs. While they go through many trends in pattern, length and cut

there is not much modification to the original variety of suit.A recent

innovation is the burqini, favored by Muslim women, which covers the

whole body and head (but not face) in a manner similar to a diver’s

wetsuit. These are an updated version of full-body swimwear, which

has been available for centuries, but conforms with Islam’s traditional

emphasis on modest dress. In Egypt, the term “Sharia swimsuit” is

used to describe full-body swimwear.
