Sgt Blasko was one of five brothers serving In our Armed Forces. “Love Troubles Tommy”, a comedy, was played by Mattltuck students and was warmly praised. A resolution was passed where- by Southold Town would undertake to provide a substitute for every man drtifted into the Union Army and pay such substitute $300 from Town funds. In case no substitute could be found the conscripted man was to receive the $300. It was also resolved to pay a bounty of $300 to each man who had volunteered and had received no boim- ty to date. Mrs Ella B Hal- lock had written an interesting account of the early histoiy of the Association. Bids were being solicited by the Southold School Board for the sale of $65,000 in bonds to finance the new addition to the school. County Pork Ranger Unit Moy Be Formed in Suffolk The way was cleared last week for a new law’ enforcement miit to be known as the Suffolk County Park Rangers. The unit may now be created by the Suffolk County Legislature un- der the provisions of a bill sponsored by State Senator Leon E Giuffreda of Centereach. Senator Giuffreda said he had insti- tuted the bill at the request of the county so that Rangers will have peace officer powers. Manpower will be sup- plied by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office. A predetermined number of de- puty sheriffs will be transferred to the new Ranger outfit. Another bill requiring all local mimiclpalities to adopt a code of ethics was unanimously approved by the State Senate March 10. “The Giuffreda Ethics Bill,” intro- duced by State Senator Leon E Giuf- freda of Centereach requires that all local arms of the state, including tow'ns, villages and school districts adopt a code of ethics. The measuie includes full disclosure of Interests in all mat- ters before local governments. The annual report of the LIRR tor 1944 showed a net operating profit of $983,000. Passengers carried were over 108,000,000. The statement showed $7,000,000 due the Pennsylvania RR on loans.

Ashton Woods “Scrap Book” told of an interesting Town Meeting held at the Presbyterian Church on September 7, 1863. A resolution was passed where­by Southold Town would undertake to provide a substitute for every man drtifted into the Union Army and pay such substitute $300 from Town funds. In case no substitute could be found the conscripted man was to receive the $300. I t was also resolved to pay a bounty of $300 to each man who had volunteered and had received no boim- ty to date.

Bids were being solicited by the Southold School Board for the sale of $65,000 in bonds to finance the new addition to the school.

County Pork Ranger Unit Moy Be Formed in Suffolk

The way was cleared last week for a new law’ enforcement miit to be known as the Suffolk County Park Rangers. The unit may now be created by the Suffolk County Legislature un­der the provisions of a bill sponsored by State Senator Leon E Giuffreda of Centereach.

Senator Giuffreda said he had insti­tuted the bill a t the request of the county so that Rangers will have peace officer powers. Manpower will be sup­plied by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office. A predetermined number of de­puty sheriffs will be transferred to the new Ranger outfit.

Another bill requiring all local mimiclpalities to adopt a code of ethics was unanimously approved by the State Senate March 10.

“The Giuffreda Ethics Bill,” intro­duced by State Senator Leon E Giuf­freda of Centereach requires tha t all local arms of the state, including tow'ns, villages and school districts adopt a code of ethics. The measuie includes full disclosure of Interests in all m at­ters before local governments. I t also prohibits the acceptance of gifts by public officials or employees and pro­hibits conflict of interest.
