#115 Blue Mist 2 balls • LION BRAND® crochet hook I-9 (5.5 mm)• LION BRAND® knitting needles size 7 (4.5 mm)• LION BRAND® cable needle• LION BRAND® large-eyed blunt needle

GAUGE Crochet 15 sts over Rows 1-5 of pattern = about 4 in. (10 cm) Knit 20 sts over Rows 1-5 of pattern = about 4 in. (10 cm) BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

CROCHET STITCH EXPLANATIONS BPDC (back post double crochet) Yarn over, insert hook from back to front then to back, going around post of indicated st, draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Skip st in front of the BPDC. dc2tog (dc 2 sts together) (Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased. FPDC (front post double crochet) Yarn over, insert hook from front to back then to front, going around post of indicated st, draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Skip st behind the FPDC. FPTR (front post treble crochet) Yarn over twice, insert hook from front to back then to front again, going around post of indicated st, draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times. Skip st behind the FPTR. 3/3 Cable Sk next 3 sts, FPTR around each of next 3 sts; working in front of the 3 sts just made, FPTR around each of the 3 skipped sts.

KNIT STITCH EXPLANATION 3/3 Cable Slip next 3 sts to a cable needle and hold in front, k3, then k3 from cable needle.

was made with one crochet piece and one knit piece -but you can makeyour own hat with 2 knit pieces or 2 crochet pieces if you prefer.

CROCHET PIECE Ch 39. Row 1 (WS): Dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as first dc) and in each ch across – you’ll have 37 dc. Row 2 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc in next st, *3/3 cable, FPDC around each of next 3 sts, dc in next 3 sts; rep from * once more, 3/3 cable, FPDC around each of next 3 sts, dc in next st, dc in top of beg ch – you will have three 3/3 cables in this row. Row 3: Ch 2 (counts as hdc), turn, sk first st, hdc in next st, BPDC around each of next 9 sts, *hdc in next 3 sts, BPDC around each of next 9 sts; rep from * once more, hdc in next st, hdc in top of beg ch. Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc in next st, *FPDC around each of next 3 sts, 3/3 cable, dc in next 3 sts; rep from * once more, FPDC around each of next 3 sts, 3/3 cable, dc in next st, dc in top of beg ch. Row 5: Rep Row 3. Rep Rows 2-5 until piece measures about 9 1/2 in. (24 cm) from beg, end with a WS row. Next Row: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc in each st across – 37 dc. Last Row: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, *dc2tog; rep from * across – you’ll have 19 dc.

Fasten off and cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread yarn tail into blunt needle, then weave in and out of sts along the last row. Pull to gather and knot.

KNIT PIECE Cast on 50 sts. Row 1 (RS): P9, (K6, p7) twice, k6, p9. Row 2 and all WS Rows: Knit the knits and purl the purls as they appear. Row 3: Rep Row 1. Row 5: P9, (3/3 cable over next 6 sts, p7) twice, 3/3 cable over next 6 sts, p9. Rows 7 and 9: Rep Row 1. Row 11: Rep Row 5. Rows 13 and 15: Rep Row 1. Row 16: Rep Row 2.






Rep Rows 1-16 until piece measures about 9 1/2 in. (24 cm) from beg, end with a WS row. Last Row: K2tog across – you’ll have 25 sts.

Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread yarn tail into the blunt needle, then draw through remaining sts, pull to gather and knot.

FINISHING Sew sides of knit and crochet pieces together to make a ring. With yarn threaded doubled into blunt needle, sew in and out around gathered top of Hat, pull to close opening at top of Hat and knot securely.

Weave in ends.
