Building Sourcing a Strategy Starts with the Intake Session

• Intake session is when a recruiter can gather all the key information from a hiring manager so they can source the RIGHT candidate.– What are the MUST haves or top 3 skills?– What type of background or work experience?– Why is it so critical to have these skills or work

experience?

What works for you may not work for others

• Social Media – Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook is a LOT of hype and often doesn’t produce enough ROI

• Job Postings – Most recruiter post and pray. Often the job postings are a multitude of skills that just is not REALISTIC.

• Boolean Searches – Recruiters can spend hours, days and weeks to generate names but it can also be very time consuming.

• Job Boards – Save your money. Maybe just one license assigned to a recruiter.

• Automation – This is how it needs to be. Want to learn more??????

Twitter RULES for Recruiters

• Have co-workers setup twitter accounts and follow each other. Setup a #hashtag for your company.

• Use hashtags on all job postings like #SharePoint

• Don’t tweet jobs all the time, be a person and tweet something about YOU.

• Don’t over tweet about your company and your BORING jobs.

Building the Job Description

• Keep the job details simple with keywords.• Always include the following at top of every

job: Apply online at company.com ref job #• Evergreen job? Always keep one open and

posted.• Target your audience – Don’t ALWAYS use job aggregators .– Use job aggregators for entry level positions.

Boolean Search 101

• Boolean logic takes time to learn• Some strings work and some don’t produce

much. It’s better to start specific and then go broad.

• Save your searches to a folder on toolbar or bookmark them in your browser

Boolean Logic: Keyword and Phrases

• Keyword searches are great and can generate a lot of results. Try using filetype strings to get resumes. – Example: ~resume SharePoint and SQL (filetype:doc OR filetype:pdf OR filetype:pdf) AND (Atlanta OR “,

GA”, OR Georgia) –jobs -sample• X-ray linkedin

– Example: site:linkedin.com (inurl:pub OR inurl:in) SharePoint and SQL area: Greater Atlanta –jobs –dir –directory

• Search sites, blogs, forums, names, emails, conference and pictures• Keyword are great when you need to go broad and have the time to search through results but…

– Running non-concentrated searches will yield a large set of results and often too much for candidate to effectively review

– 21,000 results on Google, for example, a recruiter might review 100 of those first results• Searching phrases might bring fewer results but a closer match to what you are looking for.

– Example: (I | “I have” |”I am) (work | worked | working) (with | for) (Microsoft | Avanade | Magenic | Sogeti) SharePoint (resume | profile) –jobs –sample –submit

• Searching phrases returns the results you want but not many. – The key to successful Phrase searches is to have a multitude of search variations because you recruiters will

NOT FIND all the candidates if they did NOT use that keyword in the phrase.

Truth about Job Boards Like Monster and Dice

• You have control over location, education, and things like work authorization

• They are expensive• Often recruiters don’t use ALL of their job

boards – that is they don’t always login to search and that is a waste of money

• Job boards might change their resume subscription plans and become more restrictive in order to generate revenue

Job Board Tips and Tricks

• Resume Databases have Search Agents and they are best used so that you can access the Search Agents from any computer or laptop.– Some resume databases limit the number of search agents

• Save searches strings as a bookmark is even better because you can run simply click the bookmark and then sort by the latest updated resume.– Unlimited number of searches you can run.– Bookmark the search or page. Then call it something for

example SharePoint Architect Chicago.
