Acoustic Guitar Beginner Lessons

Acoustic guitar beginner lessons must be timely. Before learning how to form chords and pick melodies, you should learn the names of the parts of your guitar, how the strings of the guitar tune, and how to create notes. Without this basic knowledge, you will find more advance techniques unnecessarily difficult. This can harm your progress as a guitarist. Here are some skills you should learn before really getting started with your acoustic guitar beginner lessons. Learn about the parts of the guitar. Can you locate the nut, saddle, fretboard, and tuning pegs? Knowing these terms are vital to your being able to play, tune, and even talk about your guitar. Here are a few important parts of the guitar: The tuning pegs are the six pegs near the tip of your guitar which can be turned to tune individual strings. The sound hole is the round hole in the body of your guitar. Without this part of the guitar, your guitar would sound much quieter and less resonant than it does now. Learn the names of the strings. The names of the strings on the guitar -- from top to bottom -- are E, A, D, G, B, and E. Remembering these names will help you tune the guitar and read music more efficiently. Learn how to tune. Tuning can be very difficult for the student taking acoustic guitar beginner lessons. You may need to rely on your teacher or a friend who can play guitar to tune for you for quite some time. Nonetheless, as a new guitar student, you should always pay close attention to how your guitar tutor tunes your guitar. Learn by mimicking, and try to develop a good ear for determining what tuned and un-tuned strings sound like.

Learn how frets work. Frets are the small metal lines along the neck of your guitar. By placing your fingers between these metal lines, you are able to produce notes. It may take some time until your fingers become tough enough to press down strings without the notes you are playing sounding a little fuzzy. This can be especially troublesome when learning more difficult chords. Training your fingers to be strong and tough can be frustrating at first, but in no time your hands will be used to playing even the most difficult of chords. Learn how to strum and pick a guitar. Strumming and picking are the two most basic skills your right hand will learn. You can practice strumming the guitar even before you can hold chords with your left hand. Press your thumb lightly against the thickest string on your guitar, and let it run smoothly and quickly across all six strings. Practice this technique until you learn how hard or soft you should be pressing to make a good sounding strum. Picking can be done by pressing your thumb lightly on one string and moving it towards the floor. These are some very basic skills you will need to develop, and are crucial elements of any acoustic guitar beginner lessons. With these skills practiced and understood, you can move on to more advanced techniques, and really begin to play your guitar.
