The first people to make use of accurate timepieces were astronomers. To develop astronomy they needed to develop watchmaking. Reason for which many of the important technological advances made in the world of watchmaking and still in use today -such as a pendulum clock and the balance spring in a mechanical movement- were invented by astronomers two to three centuries ago.

Most of the world’s famous watch manufacturers are based here in Geneva. The concentration of so many rare skills on the same location, the presence of the best suppliers and the exchange and sharing of information, allows independent companies such as Frédérique Constant to remain at the forefront of precision watchmaking - today and tomorrow. Clear reasons for us to be based in Geneva.

Our watchmakers are our most important assets, because each of our watches is individually assembled by hand. The world famous watchmaking schools in Geneva and La Chaux-de-Fonds have educated most of our watchmakers. Many of them gained experience in the workshops of other renowned brands before joining Frédérique Constant. Yet pure skill alone is only part of the equation. To be successful, a watchmaker at Frédérique Constant must be truly passionate about his or her work.

Our philosophy is not to restrict the interest in Frédérique Constant Genève timepieces just to connoisseurs, but deliberately also to reach a broader selection of appreciative enthusiasts who want to enjoy high

quality and timeless yet classical watches at sensible prices.

The mission of Frédérique Constant is therefore, to apply the following three values to the

development process of each of our models: Design, Quality and Innovation.

Design:We pay particular attention to design at Frédérique Constant. We like our watches to be classical and traditional whilst remaining timeless. Every timepiece is created with a genuine passion for details. You will discover delicate guilloché decoration and refined printings on our dials, while our cases are entirely hand-polished for a luxurious, smooth

feel and a remarkable shine.

Quality: Each Frédérique Constant watch is hand-assembled and each watch is checked and controlled over a long period of time -by both human beings as well as special equipment- to ensure optimal quality. Making no compromises in terms of quality is a strict priority for Frédérique Constant.

For a watch to be called “Swiss Made”, at least 50% of its value has to be added within Switzerland. We go further than that. All our watches are produced within our own workshops in Plan-les-Ouates in the Canton of Geneva. All include a Swiss movement, and are assembled and controlled by highly qualified craftsmen and –women as well as state-of-art equipment. We take the “Swiss Made” label very serious.

Innovation: Frédérique Constant is continuously innovating and invests massively in this domain to offer creativity and outstanding technical features in its timepieces. In 2004...Frédérique Constant entered the elite circle of Swiss watch brands that develop and produce their own in-house movements. Consequently, Frédérique Constant became a “Manufacture”. The successful introduction of the Heart Beat Manufacture movement FC-910 formed a giant leap for our young and innovative brand. Since then, we have introduced other notable calibres, entirely conceived and produced in-house, such as the highly accurate Manufacture Tourbillon Silicium calibre FC-980 in 2008 -a world first- and the outstanding Maxime Manufacture Automatic calibre FC-700 in 2009.

Since its creation... Frédérique Constant has come a long way. Still independent, the company has gradually become an important player within the watchmaking industry. Avid to always offer the best quality and at the same time remain accessible, we haven’t stopped investing in our production equipment. Besides surrounding ourselves with highly qualified watchmakers, we have developed all our departments to be able to control the various stages of the production of our watches, from

initial conception to the final quality control and including assembly.

for around 100 employees in the sectors of movement component production, calibre

assembly, watch assembly, and an extensive quality control department.

Since early 2006, Frédérique Constant has been based in its own premises in Plan-les-Ouates, on the outskirts of Genève. The new Frédérique Constant offices and workshop in Plan-les-Ouates measures 3200 m2, divided over four floors and offering an attractive working environment for around 100 employees in the sectors of movement component production, calibre assembly, watch assembly, and a extensive quality control department.

Digitally-controlled machines of the latest generation are located in a large workshop in the basement, where all component manufacturing is concentrated. Calibre and watch assembly, as well as state-of-the-art quality control, is primarily organized on the first floor of the new Frédérique Constant building. Following latest cutting-edge production concepts, the workshops are very spacious, with glass partitions to create a bright environment, to enhance performance, communication and cooperation between watchmakers and quality control personnel in the various ateliers.

The birthThis department is very important in the process of Frédérique Constant watch production.Often, the design of a new watch starts from a discussion between employees of different departments: sales, marketing, communication, workshops… These discussions are often lively, because each of our employees lives the launch of every new watch with great passion, making it into a real event. Once everyone has agreed on the new Frédérique Constant watch to develop, the designer will translate the idea into a drawing and then plan and prepare the specifications before launching the prototype phase.

uses cutting-edge computer software, principally computer aided design

software, to assist in the watch design and development processes.

The Designer will then build the model, component by component, layer by layer, which in turn will go on to define the manufacturing process for this watch itself. We are not talking here only about the most complicated movements as our Tourbillon Manufacture, but also about all the components necessary to produce our manufacture movements: the diameter of a hole on the plate, the weight of a rotor, the finishing of a bridge .... are only some examples. We do all this to make the new Frédérique Constant models unique and exceptional for your great pleasure!

Assisted by an ultra sophisticated CNC machine, our micro-mechanical engineers study each process plan created by our Designer and build, step-by-step, each component destined to be integrated into our new manufacture calibre. .

of our movements.

Our Master-watchmaker and watchmakers undertake long and fastidious work, where patience, experience and know-how are required. They handle delicate and fragile components, and have to be very precise with every gesture.

Our watchmakers assemble, adjust, and control all our mechanical movements to make sure everything functions, whether manual or automatic -winding. Their working environment has a lot of clarity and serenity. The assembly workshop at Frédérique Constant, or T2, is a workshop dedicated to all the operations necessary for the encasing of the watch. Our watchmakers carefully handle all the different parts that make up the watch: the movement, the case, the dial and the hands. Frédérique Constant watches are all hand assembled; the watchmakers place the dial and the hands, before encasing the movement into the case, and then closing it up. The cleanliness of this workshop is extremely important in order to prevent any foreign matter getting into the movements and constricting the smooth functioning of our watches.

Once the watch is encased, our watchmakers check that the aesthetics and the cleanliness of the watch are perfect and then transfer all the watch “heads“ to their last workshop: the final quality control workshop.

Over the years, Frédérique Constant has heavily invested in high-end equipment for quality control.

All Frédérique Constant watches, quartz as well as mechanical, pass a very extensive series of tests: a water resistance test during which we conduct an air test with varying pressure and depression depending on the model to ensure a perfect water resistance; a «Stress» test when your watch will be placed in a «fast tumbler” , a sophisticated machine that will be rotated quickly and violently to ensure that all components remain in place in all circumstances; an intensive visual inspection, during which our controllers ensure that none of the elements of the watch have any scratches or scrapes, even miniscule, and verify the

absence of particles or discoloration.

Finally your watch will be tested for correct performance, a further step in which our controllers re-test all functions of your watch: jump the date, test time the setting, test winding (if your watch is mechanical) and so on. Mechanical watches with automatic windings undergo a further series of tests that will differ depending on the complexity of the movement: running and amplitude tests, testing of the power reserve and so on. Once your watch has passed the whole battery of tests successfully, it will be ready for shipment to our worldwide points of sale.

Quality control But if one of these tests does not meet our high quality standards, the watch will return to the production cycle until it, too, is perfect.

All Frédérique Constant watches are warranted for two years, parts and labor, for normal use of your watch. The collection of Frédérique

Constant watches is built around a range of high-precision, mostly mechanical, but also some quartz movements. These movements need

to be revised regularly, the regularity of revision depending on their complexity. Therefore they return to our After Sales Service workshop

and pass through the hands of our highly skilled watchmakers, who will verify that your watch works correctly and will check the

«mechanics» of your movement. If an accident happens to your watch, the After Sales Service department will take care of cleaning,

polishing, checking for movement, replacing components if necessary, so that your watch gets back to its original state.

Only your Tourbillon Manufacture Silicium does not go through this department. In fact, it comes back to the hands of the watchmaker’s Manufacture workshop which assembled, adjusted, and encased it. At Frédérique Constant, we insist that our watchmakers take care of our exceptional timepieces throughout its life. Once again, your watch will undergo all tests in Quality Control before being returned to you.

aesthetic, is equally important.

Right from the conception of a new model, we take the utmost care over even the smallest details and parts that make up your watch, to guarantee your complete satisfaction, in regards to both the design as

well as the comfort on your wrist.

The case is one of the most important elements of any watch, which is why at Frédérique Constant we make sure that the design of the case is well-balanced and truly thought-out and thought-through. The case must be harmonious, in proportion to the complication it contains, it must be ergonomic, comfortable and, above-all, beautiful. All our cases are hypoallergenic, and for the most part constructed of three separate pieces to be longer lasting and stronger over a long period of time. Some of our cases combine parts with a mirror polish married to brushed elements to create a truly contemporary feel. Our watches are offered in steel, solid 18 carat gold and other precious metals and all offer everlasting timelessness, quality and value. Furthermore, all our cases incorporate a special locking system in order to be thoroughly water-resistant.

On every Frédérique Constant watch you will find a dial that has been fully wrought and on all our models, without exception, we ensure that the finish is of the highest order. By doing this, we offer watches of the highest quality possible: polished and hand-applied indexes give depth to the dial and a various guilloché decorations in the centre are the result of the grandest watchmaking traditions. All this whilst keeping

the watch in perfect proportion.

But we don’t stop there. Our movements are also treated with just as much care and attention. Through the sapphire glass on the case back you are able to admire the ‘Côtes de Genève’ decorations that adorn our plates and oscillating weights, where some of the bridges have been carefully pearled. The movement components have, for the most part, been deliberately angled in order to break and polish the bevelled edges for an even more refined aesthetic.

The watch straps, whether in leather or in metal, are systematically designed for comfort while being worn. Some of our models have inserts that fill entirely the space between, which obviously makes designing and producing the watch even more complicated. Finally, our buckles are finely decorated with the Frédérique Constant crest present on every one.

HistoryThe Tourbillon is one of the most valued and sought-after complications by collectors and aficionados of premium timepieces alike. A Tourbillon mechanism is extremely complex to manufacture due to the required accuracy of all the parts involved, and requires highly qualified and experienced watchmakers to be able to manufacture a Tourbillon Calibre. By combining the technical complexities to the aesthetic value that contributes to the charm of this timepiece, Frédérique Constant presents thus in 2008 one of its finest achievements:

the Tourbillon Manufacture Silicium.

In line with watch industry developments, Frédérique Constant researched the application of new materials for its Heart Beat Manufacture calibres. Obviously, a major improvement would be an escapement that does not require regular lubrication. Frédérique Constant developed its Tourbillon Manufacture Silicium that incorporates a silicium escapement wheel that will no longer need lubrication. Silicium is the ideal material for use in watch making as it is not magnetic, is extremely hard (1100 Vickers compared to 700 Vickers for steel), and is highly resistant to corrosion. The biggest advantage of a silicium escapement wheel is that it does not need to be lubricated. As it does not need to be lubricated, previously mentioned disadvantages such as age-related thinning and drying of lubrication will no longer occur.

Silicium escapementThe accuracy of a mechanical movement is dependent on the accuracy of the timing device. The timing device for a Frédérique Constant mechanical Calibre is the balance wheel, the balance-spring and the escapement. The balance wheel spins back and forward with a frequency of 4Hz. The period of swing of the balance wheel determines the accuracy. The crucial element in escapement design is to give just enough energy to the balance wheel in order to keep it swinging, and to interfere with the free swinging of the balance wheel as little as is possible. As the lubrication of the escapement ages, friction will increase, and less power will be transferred to the balance wheel. The escapement must keep the balance-

spring winding and unwinding.

For most of watch-making history, these requirements have involved considerable friction in the escapement. The teeth of the escapement wheel are powered by the main spring power source, and they actually slide against the lever before they lock; this is the friction which kicks the balance wheel but which requires lubrication. In a modern escapement, pallet-stones are made of very hard and very polished stone, but lubrication is still essential. The ticking sound of a Frédérique Constant watch is the sound of the lever and escapement wheel locking into with each other. If the lubrication fails (through age related thinning or drying) then the escapement can suffer damage and metal parts will require replacement. The increased reliability of modern watches is due primarily to the higher quality oils used to lubricate the escapement. Typically, a mechanical caliber needs to be cleaned and re-oiled every four years.

The crafting of silicium escapement wheels requires a new technology called Deep Reactive-Ion Etching (DRIE). A multiple image of the escapement wheels is produced and projected onto a round silicium wafer measuring 100 mm in diameter by 0.5 mm in thickness. Typically, wafers are made in various sizes ranging from 1 inch (25.4 mm) to 11.8 inches (300 mm), and thickness of the order of 0.5 mm.Generally, they are cut from a boule of semiconductor using a diamond saw or diamond wire, then polished on one or both faces. Using a 100 mm wafer, approximately 250 wheels can be produced. The wafer is composed of three different substrates or layers of silicium. The central substrate functions as a separation layer. After the image of the escapement wheels has been projected on the wafer, the exposed lacquered substrate is cleaned away, leaving the non-exposed parts on the wafer. Then, the non-exposed lacquered substrate is etched with plasma down to the separation layer. The silicium escapement wheels are thereafter released by isotropic etching. The pieces that come out of this operation have only to be cleaned on the surface. They are all identical and do not need balancing, centering or polishing. Wafers are thus of key importance in the fabrication of the Frédérique Constant silicium escapement wheels.

Over time, the oil in your traditional watch will thin out and dry up and will need to be replaced. However, with the introduction of Silicium Escapements where no oil is needed or used, this will no longer occur meaning that your Frédérique Constant watch will go on, and on, working. No oil in the Escapement Wheel also means that the risk of getting oil onto other parts of the movement and spoiling the accuracy is non-existant, meaning in turn that your Frédérique Constant watch will continue to be extremely accurate at all times and moments. Because the Escapement Wheel is exceedingly light, it has very low inertia, lowering the wear and tear on the part and therefore yet further increasing its efficiency. The low friction incurred by the wheel and the lever reduces the loss of energy that might otherwise have resulted and hence the energy requirements demanded by the calibre is also reduced.

Gravity is one of the main causes of rate variations of the balance wheel in watches. The rate of the balance wheel should be perfectly constant to ensure accurate timekeeping of a watch. A Tourbillon mechanism eliminates errors of rate in the various vertical positions of a watch and

therefore compensates for the effects of gravity on a watch.

The Frédérique Constant Tourbillon consists of a mobile cage, driven by the gear train, carrying the balance wheel and escapement. Every time the balance wheel receives an impulse, the cage rotates slightly with all the elements it contains. The cage turns co-axially and makes one revolution per minute, so that the error of rate will automatically be compensated while the Tourbillon cage travels through the opposite position. Of all the delicate, complex mechanisms invented by watchmakers over the centuries, the Tourbillon is one of the most

complicated.A Tourbillon mechanism is extremely complex to manufacture due to the required accuracy of all the parts involved. The Tourbillon is also valued for its engineering and design principles. Only very few and only the very best watchmakers have the necessary skills to manufacture a

Tourbillon watch successfully.

The Tourbillon is one of the most valued and sought-after complications by collectors and aficionados of premium timepieces alike. The Frédérique Constant Tourbillon design allows the Tourbillon mechanism to be seen through a large aperture in the watch dial at six o’clock. In addition to enhancing the charm of the timepiece, the Tourbillon cage with its incorporated hand acts as a second indicator as it rotates once per minute.

The Frédérique Constant Tourbillon runs at 4 Hertz whereby the balance wheel beats 28,800 times per hour. Hence, in a Frédérique Constant Tourbillon, the balance wheel swings 28,800 times an hour and the gear train moves forward 691,200 times in 24 hours. In four years, this represents over one billion impulses. Most competing Tourbillons run at 3 Hertz only. The higher ‘Beats per Hour’ (BpH) enable a higher accuracy of the Tourbillon calibre. The higher oscillation also makes the calibre less susceptible to gyration effects.

The Frédérique Constant Tourbillon Cage consists of 80 parts. Each of these parts is produced to the highest possible tolerance, with a precision of 1-2 micron (0.001- 0.002 mm). Many of the parts are produced on Frédérique Constant’s ultra precise CNC machine

in Plan-les-Ouates.

This CNC machine of the latest custom-made generation has a tolerance of 1 micron on the X and Y axes and 2 micron on the Z axe. Even with such a high degree of precision, it is impossible to have a 100% equal distribution of weight in the individual parts; for a Tourbillon to run accurately, an equal distribution of weight is essential. Frédérique Constant solved this problem by a “Smart Weight Balancing” structed with a slight over-weight opposite the Smart Weight Balancing system on the main Cage Wheel. Thereafter, a highly skilled watchmaker is able to balance the weight into the center of the Tourbillon cage by adding or exchanging tiny metal rings under the two screws on the main cage wheel. Typically, 8 hours are required for a watchmaker to adjust the tiny rings and balance the weight perfectly for the entire Tourbillon cage.

Heart Beat ManufactureFrédérique Constant

HistoryEarly in the 1990’s, automatic mechanical watches were slowly making their

return to the market after the quartz crisis of the 1970-1980’s. Typically, these mechanical watches looked similar to quartz watches - except that the second

hand moved continuously for mechanical watches, and not 60 steps by minute. At Frédérique Constant, we considered it important to highlight the difference between mechanical and quartz watches visually. In 1994, Frédérique Constant

developed its first Heart Beat watch. The objective of this development, resolutely innovative and original for this time, was to admire the watch

mechanism through an opening on the dial.Though growing fast, as a company, in that year, Frédérique Constant was still relatively small. Without an internal legal department and insufficient

management attention, a big mistake was made. The Heart Beat feature should have been deposited as a design registration. Possibly, a patent could have been

secured. Instead, the very first Frédérique Constant Heart Beat watches were introduced on the market without any registration. Less than one year later, the

first Heart Beat copies started to appear.

With copies of Heart Beat watches already on the market, it was now too late to register the Heart Beat feature. To reinforce Frédérique Constant as the creator of the original Heart Beat, a strategy was developed to introduce, every few years, new Heart Beat calibres with complications. In 1998, the company introduced the Heart Beat Day-Date, a calibre developed in co-operation with Dubois-Dépraz.In 1999, the Heart Beat Perpetual followed, also developed in co-operation with Dubois-Dépraz. Finally, in 2001, the Heart Beat Retrograde was introduced, a calibre co-operation with Agenhor Genève.

Since 2001, the internal discussions on the development of new complicated Heart Beat movements have become more problematic. Indeed, all these developments were based on previous existing caliber bases, and compelled us to respect the design of these calibers. First of all, we thought that the balance wheel was very deep inside the Heart Beat aperture and it would be a major improvement if the balance wheel could be closer to the front side of the calibre, making it more visible. Another issue was the spiral, the most important component in the movement of a mechanical watch, traditionally placed at the back of the caliber. We wanted it to be placed at the front.

After a great deal of thought and reflection, we finally decided to develop our own calibre to solve these problems. In 2001 we started developing the Heart Beat Manufacture, with a specific bridge to position the balance wheel at the front of the movement, that is to say on the side of the dial. Having the bridge for the balance wheel on the front side of the calibre made it possible to have the spiral and fine regulation on the front side as well, creating a much more appealing Heart Beat design. This construction was completely novel - allowing Frédérique Constant to apply for a patent. This time, all the designs were also properly registered before going to market!

Three years of development for the first Heart Beat Manufacture were necessary before the first Heart Beat caliber saw the light of day. It was a major development in co-operation with the École d’Horlogerie de Genève, the École d’Ingenieurs de Genève and the Horloge Vakschool Zadkine. In 2004, the manual version of the Heart Beat Manufacture was introduced - with major success. In 2005, the Frédérique Constant Heart Beat Manufacture with Moon Phase and Date, also manual winding, followed.In 2006, the first series of Automatic Heart Beat Manufacture watches were launched with the FC-930 calibre. One of the critical issues with automatic watches is their winding function. In an automatic watch, the mainspring is charged by the movement of the arm of the person wearing the watch. The movement of the arm makes the rotor inside an automatic watch turn. The turning rotor then winds the mainspring that is the source of energy of the calibre. However, some people move their arms only a few times a day and infrequently. Even for those who don’t use their arms a lot, the mainspring should be kept wound to ensure that the calibre continues to function properly. Frédérique Constant incorporated the following features to increase the winding efficiency of the new Heart Beat Manufacture Automatic:

An innovative rotorThe rotor of the Frédérique Constant Heart Beat Manufacture Automatic movement is bi-directional. It winds the mainspring in two directions: whether the rotor is moving from left to right or from right to left, both movements transfer winding energy to the mainspring via the winding mechanism. Bi-directional winding of the rotor is possible because Frédérique Constant incorporated two sophisticated reverse

click wheels in its automatic winding mechanism.

Most of the automatic calibers have rotors with a diameter of 25.6 mm. For its Automatic Heart Beat Manufacture calibre, Frédérique Constant increased the size of the rotor at 29.5 mm. Increasing the size of the rotor places the heavy metal component further from the central axis of the rotor. The longer distance increases the swing efficiency of the rotor by approximately 55% compared to a typical 25.6 mm rotor. The following table shows the calculation for the

inertness ratio (physical efficiency increase).

Finally, the Frédérique Constant rotor is attached to the Heart Beat Manufacture calibre by a sophisticated ball bearing mechanism that reduces friction between the rotor and the rest of the calibre almost completely. The ball bearing mechanism is covered by the center of the rotor.

JewelsRuby jewels inside a mechanical movement ensure minimum friction between various component parts.The most important friction that is reduced by the rubies is the friction between the axes of wheels and the bridges of the calibre. Typically, an automatic winding mechanism of Swiss quality watch manufacturers uses 8 jewels. The automatic mechanism of the Frédérique Constant Manufacture is built with 10 jewels. The additional jewels are set inside the reverse click wheels (2x), reducing the friction of the components of these complex wheels dramatically.

Heavy metalThe rotor of the Frédérique Constant Heart Beat Manufacture is built with heavy metal (94% tungsten, 6% copper) on the outside edge. Having the heavy material on the outside diameter of the rotor ensures that most of the weight is far from the turning axe at the center of the rotor. This weight distribution enables maximum swing motion of the rotor. The center plate of the rotor is made of brass and has a large opening in order to maintain the transparency of the Heart Beat opening of the calibre. The rotor’s heavy metal and brass components are bound together by a sophisticated riveting process and then the entire rotor is plated in 18K rose gold.

Special lubrificationThe automatic winding mechanism is lubricated with a specially developed oil to reduce friction and ensure longevity of the winding system. Watchmakers at Frédérique Constant place carefully measure oil drops on 15 positions during assembly of the winding mechanism of the Heart Beat Manufacture, for optimal performance.

With a diameter of 42 mm for the men’s versions and 39mm for the ladies, the case of the Maxime combines a subtle mix of brushed

and polished steel parts. To create such a well-balanced case, many hours of specialized hand polishing are required.

The silver dial, with an elegant sun-ray guilloché decoration, offers clear legibility thanks to its polished and hand applied indexes. The

women’s versions moreover offer mother-of-pearl finishing on the dial and diamond indices and bezel for even more femininity.

Inside, the watch is equipped with caliber FC-700, designed, developed and produced within the Frédérique Constant workshops in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva. Runabout Manufacture Power Reserve The star of the series is the new Runabout Manufacture Power Reserve, with its in-house power reserve calibre FC-720 movement. Completely designed and constructed by Frédérique Constant, it forms a true masterpiece and a monument to the design geniuses of the golden age of the 1920s. Presented in stainless steel, the 43mm bevelled case is hand-polished and exposes a finely decorated ‘Clous de Paris’ guilloché dial in the centre. The

polished indexes mirror the case and allow for an exceptionally clear reading. The delicate power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock lets the owner of the watch check the remaining power of the watch (42 hours). The marine heritage of the Runabout watch is shown on the case back with an engraving of the propeller of the yacht and a sapphire crystal through which the manufactured movement can be clearly seen.

Runabout Automatic The two new Runabout Automatic models complete the Runabout series, and are also limited to 1,888 pieces each. These new Runabout Automatic models are either in steel or in rose gold plated versions, and both models feature automatic winding. The fine “Clous de Paris” guilloché decoration in the centre and the polished and hand-applied Arabic indexes provide an elegant finish to these models.

The year 2009 saw the introduction of a new limited edition: the Runabout range by Frédérique Constant, designed to pay tribute to the legendary Runabout gentlemen’s sports boats of the roaring 20s, and which can be

Index Clear VisionFrédérique Constant presents the Index collection with Clear Vision™ technology.Clear Vison™is a self-activated light source that enables clear visibility during the entire night and is 100 times brighter than any material previously available. The light-emitting devices, also known as light tubes, require no battery power or any other form of external power supply, do not require the push of a button, never need servicing or maintenance, and have a useful life of more than 20 years.The “working principle” of the light emitting devices on the Frédérique Constant Clear Vision™ timepieces is comparable to that of a conventional television tube. A very thin layer of luminous matter is applied to a glass surface. The layer is bombarded with electrons emitted by the tritium gas (H3), which cause the layer to light up. Whilst in a television tube, the electrons are generated electronically through the use of a cathode, with the Clear Vision™ self-activated light sources, the necessary electrons are created through the totally harmless radioactive disintegration of tritium. The tritium decays to helium and in the process emits a low energy electron. The disintegrating electrons of the tritium have a range of just 1-3 mm in air and energy of only 18 keV that is not sufficient to penetrate or leave the sealed glass tube of a Clear Vision™ self-activated light source. Frederic Chopin Limited EditionFrédérique Constant pays tribute to the famous pianist and composer Frédéric Chopin. 2010 sees the 200th birthday of Frederic Chopin, who was born in 1,810. To commemorate this event, we are honored to present the limited edition “Frederic Chopin 2010” timepiece. Just 1,810 of these special timepieces will be produced using steel and yellow gold-plating and feature an ultra classical dial with a ‘piano keys’ pattern in the centre. Each watch is delivered in a miniature Frédéric Chopin Piano as gift box.To celebrate Chopin’s 200th anniversary, hundreds of events have been planned all over the world - concerts, exhibitions, meetings, festivals, congresses and more. Activities are actively coordinated and controlled by The Fryderyk Chopin Institute, which was established in 2001 by the Polish Parliament to organize many of these events. Its duty also covers research and to popularize Chopin’s life and work, as well as cooperating with institutions and organizations dealing in the protection of the Chopin heritage. The Fryderyk Chopin Institute has officially licensed Frédérique Constant to develop and launch the Limited Edition Frederic Chopin.

The look was luxurious and opulent, with rounded curves and corners, inside and out, based on geometric shapes such as the tonneau. The Frédérique Constant Art Deco

collection of tonneau-shaped wristwatches is a modern yet classic and timeless interpretation of the Art Deco style of the 1920s. The tonneau-shaped models are available with

either mechanical automatic or quartz movements.

The slim, ergonomically rounded cases offer a very snug and comfortable fit. The dial is protected by a curved sapphire crystal which is clean and uncluttered and lends itself to a perfect legibility.The gents quartz chronograph, also available with a stainless steel bracelet, forms a handsome addition to this classic collection.The ladies Art Deco models, with striking black and white mother-of-pearl dials, exude great elegance and lots of femininity.

Art Deco is the style that swept through the most fashionable circles in the 1920s and 1930s. The name is derived from the title of the Paris exhibition of 1925, the ‘Exposition des Arts Décoratifs’.
