    Frederick Forward held their annualmeeting Jan. 21.At that meeting, they settheir top goals for the year:

    Involve more people, especiallythe youth, in projects to better thecommunity.

    Get the website and newsletter up andrunning.

    Establish a foundation to support fucommunity projects.

    Officers were also elected. Heidi MarttilaLosure we re-elected president, KrystiMikkonen will serve as vice president, TraOlson will serve as secretary, and DonnaSumption was re-elected treasurer.

    Finn Fes 2013 was a success, even wihscaling i back o wo days.

    We held all Finn Fes evens on Saurday,and Savo Hall Associaion had heir evens onSunday a he Savo Hall and Savo LuheranChurch.

    Te enerainmen was a big hi wih Rezaan Illusionis puting on an awesome show anda live band, and as always he fireworks show

    was amazing hanks o Finnish Line Fireworks.We held a caered picnic wih a grea

    urnou, games or all ages enerained many,and o course we had he annual Wie CarryingCones and Boo Trowing Cones, whileriends and amilies relaxed and enjoyed goodood and un.

    Whos up for a neighborhood party?!Frederick has some new residents, and we want to get to

    know them and welcome them to the community! Makingconnections with neighbors is good for all of us, whether

    weve lived here a week or a lifetime.Frederick Forward is sponsoring parties in variousneighborhoods throughout the rest of the summer(hopefully all by Labor Day). Well bring Kubb and Mlkky,those fun lawn games that were introduced at Finn Fest,and help coordinate the event. Well make up a poster youcan pass out in the neighborhood. Parties will be potluck.Well have a grand farewell-to-summer gathering of allneighborhoods before our September meeting: Monday,September 16.

    We need volunteers to host the parties in their yards,or to coordinate blocking off a block of a street for a party.

    (Well work with you to get permissionfrom the city.) Areas are: south of Main Street

    north of Main and west of Tird Avenue north of Main and east of Tird Avenue townships of: Palmyra, Osceola, Savo,

    Boh are pracicing wo social cusoms haare associaed wih a long, healhy lie: Meeingegularly or a common purpose (called Moai)

    and having a help hy neighbor ehic (calledYuimaru).

    In Frederick, groups have been gahering oryears. Te men mee a he communiy sore a7:30 a.m. and again a 4 p.m. One small groupo women gahers here a 11 a.m. Anyone may

    oin in. Many o he same aces show up, moslydepending on demands o he arming cycle orpersonal appoinmens.

    More recenly, a mixed group gahers rom 9a.m. o 1 p.m. on Saurdays a he Frederick AreaMuseum. Tey visi and exchange inormaionabou upcoming communiy evens. On Oc.4, five members o he exended Fylpaa amilyrom Chicago, Duluh and Bemidji joined in.

    Early his all, Frederick Forward sponsoreda series o block paries, culminaing in one

    big pary Oc. 13. Te paries are more exam-ples o meeing or a common purpose andhelp hy neighbor ehic, gaherings o peoplein geographic areas o polucks. Te purpose

    Cookie Walk has good turnoutOur Cookie Exravaganza was a success and was well atended

    nd we had around five workers. I el ha we could have had severaldozen more cookies as here were some people ha remarked o meha here weren many lef when hey came.
