Fraternity Statements Regarding Reports Of Sexual Assault And Hazing In The 201415 Academic Year Sigma Chi (statement): “The Sigma Chi International Fraternity implements a holistic approach to eradicating hazing through policy, education, and accountability. We carry a strict zerotolerance position which serves to underpin our work on the subject; we have invested significant resources into creating topnotch educational programming geared to drive culture change; and we have held every member and chapter fully accountable for any reported deviation from our values or policy. With regard to sexual misconduct, our approach is identical to the above policy, education, and accountability. Our position on the matter is quite clear we will not tolerate it. In the summer of 2014, we helped launch the Fraternal Health & Safety Initiative. The result of that effort is programming which educates members of the Greek community about sexual misconduct and how to prevent it we have delivered this curriculum to thousands of students this year alone. Any member who commits sexual misconduct or sexual assault has been and will continue to be held fully accountable by the fraternity.” Attribution to Christian Wiggins, Pi Kappa Phi Chief Operating Officer: “Pi Kappa Phi has clear policies and expectations in the areas of hazing and sexual misconduct, and the fraternity provides our students with the education, training, and mature adult guidance to make good choices and to understand the consequences of their choices. Pi Kappa Phi is unequivocally opposed to all acts of hazing and sexual misconduct. Pi Kappa Phi uses a comprehensive educational approach with our members, officers, and volunteers that reinforces the fraternity's concern for human dignity and mutual respect. Pi Kappa Phi also partners with our host institutions to address the underlying causes of hazing and sexual misconduct. When chapters and individual members are unable to conform to the Fraternity's expectations and standards, Pi Kappa Phi aggressively investigates and takes appropriate disciplinary action.” Phi Delta Theta, Robert A Biggs, Executive VP Phi Delta Theta has a noalcohol policy to try and combat these areas of misconduct (hazing, sexual assault, poor scholarship and relations with admins/alums. “Whether you are 18 years old or 80 years old, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, there is no alcohol on the chapter property by anybody under any circumstances.” “They’re looking for a balanced fraternal experience, not something where I’m joining a drinking club.” “If that’s experience that you want, go somewhere else. But if you want a valuesbased fraternal experienced, come to Phi Delta Theta.” Beta Theta Phi Martin Cobb, director of communications “Counter to what is assumed by the headlines that often focus on the negative aspects of society – including the poor choices, decisions and mistakes by young college men and women – Beta Theta Pi is known for taking decisive action when its members or chapters violate its hazing policy and standards for conduct. Certainly a minority of incidents compared to the organization’s 10,000 undergraduate members on 128 campuses across North America, one need look no further than Beta’s record of chapter accountability – which is coupled with awardwinning educational programming and mentorship through its Men of Principle initiative – to understand Beta’s reputation of leadership, responsibility and purposeful youth development.

Likewise, Beta’s attitude and philosophy toward sexual assault is best exemplified through a real life example such as our Chapter President Mitchell Cox at the University of Utah, who was recently featured on the Dr. Phil show for our chapter’s leadership on the issue. Awarded with a significant grant from the Robyn McGraw Foundation for their sexual assault prevention campus programming, the culture of that chapter demonstrates Beta’s belief that fraternity men are uniquely positioned to lead on the issue as a result of the organizational structure, leadership hierarchy and manpower, and fraternity values that include a commitment to the community.” Sigma Phi Epsilon (Rob Jepson, senior communications manager) “SigEp takes health and safety violations extremely seriously, including allegations of hazing and sexual assault. We expect all of our students to behave according to both their university’s policies and ours, and we work with our university partners to remove students or chapters that pose a risk to student safety. If an individual member violates one of these policies, they face sanctions including expulsion from our fraternity. In 1991, our Balanced Man Program replaced pledging with an experience focused on equal rights and responsibilities, continuous development, and accountability. We are100 percent committed to this experience, and we are unwilling to allow chapters that pose a risk to student safety to continue to operate.” Kappa Alpha Order (Jesse Lyons, Assistant Executive Director for Advancement & Editor of The Kappa Alpha Journal) "Kappa Alpha Order has a strict risk management policy. Reported violations are always investigated by our National Administrative Office, preferably and when possible, in partnership with our host institutions. Whenever sanctions are warranted, they may include education, probation of various kinds, as well as member expulsion and suspension of chapter charters and operations. Risk management, bystander behavior, leadership, and values education are the primary components of our consistent, annual, and targeted conferences and programming." ATO (Wynn Smiley, CEO) “We think the Greek system should be a leader. We're encouraging our chapters to not only take a stand but help educate the broader community.” Sigma Alpha Epsilon, spokesman Brandon Weghorst Any form of sexual misconduct or hazing by anyone, brother or not, college man or not, is completely unacceptable, and we do not tolerate actions that are inconsistent with our mission. We believe that anyone who commits any illegal acts should be held accountable and face punishment that is appropriate for those actions. In addition, any individual behavior that deviates from Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s beliefs does not and should not reflect on other members, other chapters or other fraternity men. When incidents are brought to our attention, we take action immediately and will not hesitate to take corrective measures or impose sanctions on any member or chapter that fails to follow the expectations we set forth. Similarly, we are committed to investigating any new cases or allegations as they are brought to our attention. We pride ourselves on our creed, known as “The True Gentleman,” and we have proudly supported education and training that combats both hazing and sexual assault in our communities and holds our members accountable, including training at local and national events and partnerships with outside

organizations skilled in these areas. We, as well as other national fraternities and sororities, also utilize a number of educational initiatives and programs in order to make our members better in their everyday lives. Pi Kappa Alpha (W. Brent Phillips, senior marketing officer) “In 2014, Pi Kappa Alpha formed a consortium with eight other fraternities to implement the Fraternal Health & Safety Initiative (FHSI http://fhsi.jrfco.com/ ) to fight the most pressing social issues facing college campuses today: sexual and relationship misconduct, binge drinking and hazing. Through the FHSI, the Fraternity took immediate action throughout the 20142015 school year to educate undergraduate members to prevent, identify and intervene against these behaviors. Onsite training at each Chapter is led by professional staff from the Fraternity headquarters. The program addressing sexual assault is titled “Taking a Stand: Preventing Sexual Assault on Campus.” A description of the program can be found through the FHSI website. To fight the most pressing social issues facing college campuses today: sexual and relationship misconduct, binge drinking and hazing, Pi Kappa Alpha uses three trainerled programs to educate our members. Developed through the Fraternal Health and Safety Initiative, all programs focus heavily on bystander intervention, to help empower members to recognize, diagnose and most importantly, intervene in potentially harmful situations. Each program also emphasizes informed decisionmaking, evaluation of risks/consequences and challenges members to rethink their actions through the lens of our organizations values. In addition to facilitated training at Chapters, the Fraternity hosts eight Leadership Summits around the country attended by over 3,500 undergraduate fraternity leaders annually. General sessions at each summit include extensive training on our Health and Safety initiatives. “ Tau Kappa Epsilon “Tau Kappa Epsilon believes one victim of hazing and sexual assault is too many. There are thousands of cases of sexual assault and hazing reported annually. While our organization only makes up a small minority of these incidents, we feel the responsibility to extinguish these incidents across college campuses. We understand the enormous challenge we face, but we have begun the process by doing the following: ∙ Online Education: TKE’s Chief Executive Officer, Donald E. Aldrich, required every collegiate member in TKE to complete an online educational training on illegal substances, underage drinking, hazing, and sexual assault. More Details: http://www.tke.org/news/2014/09/24/chief_executive_officer_statement ∙ Fraternity Health & Safety Initiative: Tau Kappa Epsilon was one of eight international and national fraternity member clients of James R. Favor & Company to join a consortium to implement the Fraternal Health & Safety Initiative (FHSI). FHSI is designed to fight the most pressing social issues facing college campuses today: sexual and relationship misconduct, binge drinking, and hazing. More Details: http://fhsi.jrfco.com/ ∙ It’s On Us Campaign: Tau Kappa Epsilon became a partner with the It’s On Us campaign, one of two fraternities to sign on as an official partner. More Details:http://www.tke.org/news/2014/11/25/tke_announces_its_on_us_partnership ∙ Being Part of the Conversation: Four members of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Professional Staff visited and met with several organizations to discuss how Tau Kappa Epsilon can help educate college

men on the topic of sexual assault. These organizations were RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network), Generation Progress, as well as representatives from the White House. ∙ Leading by Example: Patrick Gleason, TKE’s Director of Compliance & Housing, became the first fraternity professional staff member to become a Certified Title IX Administrator through ATIXA (Association of Title IX Administrators). Gleason is currently undergoing training with RAINN to serve as a volunteer for its online sexual assault hotline. Kappa Kappa Psi (Christine Beason, national president) Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity does not condone or tolerate hazing. We take allegations of hazing very seriously and we conduct an investigation into every claim. If we find incidents of hazing, we take appropriate actions, sometimes resulting in the closure of a chapter. Every year all Brothers and Prospective Members of Kappa Kappa Psi are asked to complete a hazing workshop. In light of the recent Title IX violations, the National Council of Kappa Kappa Psi has recently taken steps to renew our commitment to diversity and respect within our Brotherhood.
