seen the difference the 500 books donations made for Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.

Task Description: This is a great task if you like organizing people (alumnae clubs
focus, some collegiate chapters) and communicating about tasks, reminders, and etc.

Fun Fact About You: I try to read a book a week.
How do you support READ>LEAD>ACHIEVE in your life? Reading is my favorite
escape. I try to encourage everyone in my life to become readers -- from friends to
children in my life. Finding the right book to encourage a love of reading is one of my favorite things to do.
Why did you want to be a task leader for FDS 2016? Pretty simple - I love Pi Phi and I love our philanthropy.
What are you most excited about for FDS 2016? I can't wait to hear about the local impact this book
giveaway is going to create. What an incredible opportunity we have to make a difference in our community.

Literacy Fair Co-Task Leader: Crista Carroll
Task Description: If you like organizing children's learning activities, this would be a
great opportunity for you. We will host anywhere from 30-200 kids.

Why did you want to be a task leader for FDS 2016? I love volunteering and giving
back to the community in any way that I can. I also love creativity, so being able to
assist in putting together learning activities sounds awesome!
What are you most excited about for FDS 2016? Volunteering and spending time with the Pi Phis!
Literacy Fair Co-Task Leader: Jennifer Gacutan-Galang
• Task Description: If you like organizing children's learning activities, this would be a
great opportunity for you. We will host anywhere from 30-200 kids.
• Hometown: I grew up in Vallejo, CA; and now I am living in Morgan Hill, CA.

Fun Fact About You: I've danced hula for about 14 years and I am training for a
competition in November.
How do you support READ>LEAD>ACHIEVE in your life? I made sure that my
own kids fell in love with reading at a very early age.
Why did you want to be a task leader for FDS 2016? This is such a great opportunity to give back and be a
part of something that will touch so many others. And specifically for the task I signed up for I am super excited
because I've been an educator in my career for almost 15 years and I love teaching kids!
What are you most excited about for FDS 2016? I'm excited for how many people this will bring together
working on one common goal.

for our group of volunteers.

Region 6 Program Specialist and I support clubs' local literacy projects.
Why did you want to be a task leader for FDS 2016? It's fun working with my Pi Phi sisters.
What are you most excited about for FDS 2016? I'm excited about seeing my Bay Area sisters again!

Task Description: This one is for you if you are a foodie and love to organize meals
for our group of volunteers.
Hometown: Norfolk, Virginia; currently San Jose, California
Chapter & Alumnae Club: Virginia Delta at Old Dominion University; currently the
co-president of the San Jose Alumnae Club
Fun Fact About You: I've been a 'domestic goddess' since 1984.
How do you support READ>LEAD>ACHIEVE in your life? Beginning each January, I participate in the
reading program our club set up at Blackford Elementary School in San Jose where we read one-on-one with
4th graders to improve their reading and comprehension skills.
Why did you want to be a task leader for FDS 2016? Our alumnae club is one of three local clubs heading up the Fraternity Day of Service in February 2016, so as a club officer, it's important to show the initiative and lead by example for our members. What are you most excited about for FDS 2016? It's a huge Pi Phi honor for our area. Seeing 20,000 books
plus all the area Pi Phis who'll be on hand working on this project will be an awesome sight to behold.
Welcome Event Task Leader: Joanna M. Nouragas
Task Description: Like to organize a party? If we are interested, we can organize a
reception to welcome guests and volunteers the day before the event.
Hometown: Media, PA (20 miles south of Philadelphia)

Fun Fact About You: In college, one of my poems was published.
How do you support READ>LEAD>ACHIEVE in your life? Starting in January, the
San Jose Alumnae Club will be reading with 4th graders at Blackford Elementary
School in Willow Glen – this will be my 5th year. I’ve been hand-making about 75 bookmarks each year, too, for
the Awards Ceremony we have at the end of our reading. I also did a Read>Lead>Achieve bulletin board for
Leslie Anido’s classroom this year.
Why did you want to be a task leader for FDS 2016? At Convention this past June, as soon as they
announced our location as an FDS spot, I knew that I needed to be involved. I met so many of our Region 6
angels at convention, and look forward to welcoming all to our area!
What are you most excited about for FDS 2016? Getting books to kids! I was very luck to grow up with two
teachers as parents, and learned to read in kindergarten. Anything I wanted to read, my parents got for me, and
encouraged library time, and let me read with a flashlight in bed. I need to channel my passion for reading to the
younger generations. If I didn’t read, I couldn’t breathe!

Task Description: If you like to shop and ask stores and businesses for donations
(items for literacy fair crafts and activities), this would be a great role for you.
Hometown: Inglewood, CA but I live in San Jose, CA now!
Chapter & Alumnae Club: California Lambda, UC Riverside
Fun Fact About You: I love baking! I love to challenge myself and build intricate
cakes for friends and family. I'm often on the lookout for new tips and tricks.
How do you support READ>LEAD>ACHIEVE in your life? I have always felt
strongly about literacy in all its forms. I often donate books to classrooms in Los Angeles and help teachers
organize their class room libraries. Now, I work at Google, which connects the world to information. At Google, I
partner with Hispanic Googlers to help promote digital literacy for low income communities.
Why did you want to be a task leader for FDS 2016? I am new to the bay area, and would love to meet more
amazing Pi Phis and get involved with my local community.
What are you most excited about for FDS 2016? Working alongside amazing Pi Phi sisters and spreading the
love and joy of reading!
Sourcing Supplies - Literacy Contests Co-Task Leader: Tara (Finney) Klein
Task Description: If you like to shop and ask stores and businesses for donations
(items for children drawing and writing contests), this would be a great role for you.
Hometown: Belmont, Massachusetts (grew up in Detroit until I was 12)

Fun Fact About You: My brother discovered the NunBun (a cinnamon bun with the
likeness of Mother Teresa) in a Nashville coffee house.
How do you support READ>LEAD>ACHIEVE in your life? I love to read. I have volunteered at different
organizations (my kids' schools/charities) where I have enjoyed reading to children. I like to get the kids involved
in the book and help them appreciate that stories are more than just words on paper.
Why did you want to be a task leader for FDS 2016? It is important for me to give back to my community. I
want to set a good example with my children that giving back is something we should do.
What are you most excited about for FDS 2016? I am excited for the kids. Reading is such a wonderful gift. It
opens up your world to new possibilities, encourages your dreams, and gets you to think.
