Fraternities and sororities are the premiere collegiate experience and have been a part of our

campus since the 1900s, playing an important role in the lives of thousands of students and alumni.

Their educational programs, social activities, service projects, and leadership development

opportunities continue to contribute much to the University community.

UAlbany currently has 36 values-based chapters across six governing councils that range in

mission from social to service to cultural; however, each chapter was founded on the principles of

scholarship, service, leadership, and community.

As a lifetime member of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Sen oritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. I recognize

the important role that fraternity and sorority life has on a university’s campus. I encourage you to

participate and take advantage of the opportunities provided by our Greek-lettered organizations.

This report is designed to celebrate the core values of our community, recognize our hard working

student leaders, and share their organizations’ stories.

I look forward to seeing you at our next event.

Fraternally yours,

Arleny Alvarez-Pen a, Assistant Director Student Involvement & Leadership

On October 21st, fraternity and sorority leaders met with the YMCA’s Black & Latino Achievers students.

There were over 60 high school students who participated in a panel discussion comprised of NPHC,

LGC, and NAPC leaders. In addition to a discussion, students along with our student leaders created

LEADERSHIP

On Saturday, August 30th 2014 organization leaders joined the Office of Student Involvement and

Leadership for the inaugural Fraternal Values Summit. Our facilitators were campus administrators

and professionals. The curriculum for the Summit was created by the Fraternity and Sorority Life staff

professional team and Greek leaders.

During the Summit, leaders of our fraternal community participated in team building exercises, group

facilitation discussions, and large group conversations. The overall goal of the Summit is to get our

community members to better understand the current state of our fraternal community and begin to

understand how they can create change and become better values based leaders.

Keynote: Ekow King, Director

of Intercultural Student Engagement

Student Keynote: Laura Lozier, All Greek Council

Director of Sororities Facilitator: Emily Davis, Assistant Director

of Campus Center Management

Chapter Standing Each semester an organization can earn up to 300 points and the opportunity to earn an additional 32 points based on a successful new member education program. Each semester’s results are used to designate a chapter as one of the following: Exceptional, Good, Fair and Poor. EXCEPTIONAL: The chapter has exceeded the minimum expectations required of each social or cultural fraternity, sorority and social fellowship and earned a score of 90% or better. GOOD: The chapter has satisfactorily achieved or maintained all standards required of each social or cultural fraternity, sorority and social fellowship and earned a score of 70% or better. FAIR: The chapter has failed to meet the minimum standards required of each social or cultural fraternity, sorority and social fellowship; however, the deficiency can be corrected the following semester. Chapters who are designated with this standing earned a score between 50% and 69%. The Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs will outline the expectations a chapter must meet in order to fulfill the deficiency (ies) that resulted in the Fair standing in a detailed Action Plan. Those chapters designated Chapters in Fair Standing for an entire academic year will be referred to the All Greek Council Judicial Board for sanctions. POOR: The chapter has failed to meet the minimum standards required of each social or cultural fraternity, sorority and social fellowship. Chapters who are designated with this standing earned a score between 25% and 49%. The Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs will outline the expectations a chapter must meet in order to fulfill the deficiency (ies) that resulted in the Poor standing in a detailed Action Plan. A Chapter in Poor Standing will be referred to the All Greek Council Judicial Board for sanctions. Those chapters designated as Chapters in Poor Standing for an entire academic year will be administratively reviewed.
