PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Hi Families of Frankston SDS,
As term one draws to a close it is it is exciting to reflect on some of the great achievements we have already
made this year. The decision to formulate students Individual Learning Plans from mid-year to mid-year has been a
great initiative. Students have hit the ground running this term, following educational programs from teachers that
had time to get to know them and the level they are working at.
We are continuing to work on our assessment processes so we can better identify the level your child is working at.
Quality assessment enables teachers to set programs that best challenge students to learn new information and
maintain the knowledge they already have. It also provides us with reliable data we can report back to families
concerning their child’s learning.
Work on our building project continues at a steady rate. If you have visited the school recently you will have
observed the external walls of the building almost look complete. The buildings are now being fitted out internally
with some areas ready to be painted. I have been most impressed with the way our students have coped with
the noise and general disruption of the construction. We are eagerly awaiting our new learning spaces, a full
open playground and an environment free of the noise of diggers, drills and hammers!
Thank you to those families who are using the ‘app’ Tiqbiz to communicate with the school. If you have not done
so already I encourage you to download this app to your smart phone, device or PC. The feedback I have had
from families is that it is easy to use and far more reliable than previous modes of communication we have tried.
Communication is so important in any school but particularly between families and teachers in specialist schools.
We are trying to find the easiest most effective system that we can. There are occasions when written text is not
sufficient to communicate a complex message, in these times I would always recommend you call the teacher or
myself to express your concerns.
Next week I will be on camp with our younger middle students. We will be participating on a bike ride from
Beechworth to Bright. I always enjoy going on camps with the students. It is great to spend quality time with the
students and another reminder to me of why many years ago I chose this most rewarding career. I can’t wait! Kris
will still be at the school to work with you if needed.
Have a great weekend.
