TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Fall 2011-current ADSC 3130 Animal Biotechnology (taught every Fall Semester) This is an introductory course in cutting-edge

biotechnologies that can be used for animal and human health and research. This course uses primary literature to cover advanced topics in stem cell biology, biomaterials, large animal models of disease and development, and diagnostics. This class covers basic cellular and molecular biology techniques and their applications in a real-world research setting. The topics are broad in scope and cover cell biology, genetics and other similar themes. The typical enrollment for this course is 30 students.

Spring 2014-current ADSC 8120 Experimental Methods in Animal Biotechnology (taught every Spring Semester)

This is a hands-on training course in basic cell culture, RNA and protein laboratory skills including RT-PCR, immunocytochemistry, and flow cytometry. Course discussions include basic technique application stratagies, limitations of approaches, and data interpretation. We also examine the literature utilize these approaches to better understand the real-world applications of these techniques. The typical enrollment for this course is 10 students.

Regenerative Medicine (taught every Semester) This is a seminar and journal club style course covering

current research activities in regenerative medicine laboratories on campus. This course offers trainees an opportunity to present their research in a symposium like setting, yet still get constructive critiques of their ongoing research and presentation skills. Trainees also have the opportunity to present primary literature in the areas of stem cells, tissue engineering, toxicology, neural and bone injury, wound healing and many other topics under the purview of regenerative medicine. The typical enrollment for this course is 25 students.
