    72.3% of all staff on duty participated (varied

    from 6099% at various sites) 12.6% of the sample tested HIV positive (ranging

    from 9.116.7% at different sites)

    Amongst contract staff: 20.6% HIV positive

    Age group 3039 showed highest incidence of15.9%

    Certain demographic groups (e.g. support staff atparticular station) up to 23.1% incidence

    Peak incidence of HIV infection likely between 1996

    1999 HIV prevalence predicted to increase to 481 cases (14%)in 2004

    AIDS curve is HIV curve + 8 years
