MASS INTENTIONS AND PARISH EVENTS

Dear Parishioners and Visitors:

Pope Francis proclaimed 2015 a Year of Consecrated Life. The theme is “WAKE UP THE WORLD.” Truly this theme is so fitting as we honor all religious brothers and sisters because in many ways they have awaken the world to become a better place both spiritual and social outreach.

Through the leadership of the members of our PLC, our parish decided to recognize and support two specific religious communities: Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and Sisters of the Society of Sacred Heart.

This weekend we are inviting Sr. Joan Henehan, C.S.L. to share with us her vocation story and her experiences in ministries as a religious sister. Please give her a warm CCSV welcome with your smiles.

Celebrating Mass with the Servants of Jesus and Mary, A Cloister Sisters in Ottawa, Canada

Ten days ago, during my canon law convention in Ottawa, I was able to celebrate mass with a group of cloistered sisters, known as the Servants of Jesus and Mary in their private chapel. Their main charism is praying for priests (perseverance and fidelity).

Cloistered sisters are those who live in seclusion within the compound of their religious community. Their charism is praying for the world in contemplation and silence, reading and reflecting the Word of God.

Visitors are welcome but they have to be behind an open screen. To be given a privilege and an opportunity to celebrate the Eucharist and to socialize with them was a blessing for me. I listened to their vocation stories, their activities within their monastery.

Sister Margo said to me: “I download the reports from the recent Synod of the Family in Rome and read to the sisters during their time together for meals or prayers.” These cloistered sisters have waken up the world in a most special way through the power of prayers and contemplation.

Annual Retreat with Father Joel Hanson - Nov. 20 to 22 (Friday to Sunday)

Thanksgiving weekend is just a few days

after from this weekend retreat. Give thanks to God by including God in your time and your agenda. If you are not able to come all three days because of your family or prior commitments, you may come for an entire Saturday and go home.

Father Henson is currently overseeing the continuing education for priests for our archdiocese. He served for more that 15 years a faculty at St. John’s Seminary College and St. John’s Seminary and acted as Dean of Students and Academic dean. He taught homiletic or preaching skills to many of our priests.

CCSV Stewardship 2015 - Invitation to Offer Your Time / Talents / Treasures

P.U.T.T. - Purpose, Update, Thankful, and Thoughtful

Pathway to S.E.R.V.E. - Support, Empower, Reach, Value, and Evangelize

We have completed this year’s 2015 Stewardship initiative. Members of the finance and pastoral liturgy councils spoke and appealed to you to participate in our parish’s stewardship program. I am thankful for all of them and for their dedication and commitment to our parish.

A total of 68 Parishioners (8 of which are newly registered) made a commitment to help our church with their offertory giving. A total of 60 Parishioners responded to participate in the various ministries of our church. Among the 60 that signed up, 44 were new volunteers and 11 are newly registered.

I am very thankful for your positive responses to our invitation and for your “yes” to God. I also warmly welcome all our newly registered parishioners.

I strongly encourage that you GIVE TO GOD WHAT IS RIGHT AND NOT WHAT IS LEFT. We need to be intentional with our time worshipping God as a community and our support and participation in the various ministries of our church. Together we are not all alone; we are One because of Christ and the combined effort and sacrifices by everyone.

Be informed in our Catholic faith, be interested in the Church and be involved in the our parish’s ministries.

CCSV CELEBRATES THE YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE SUMMARY OF STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM 2015

WORSHIP, LITURGY & FAITH

GIVING ALL Trusting widows play a significant role in this weekend’s readings. At the point of poverty, when giving even the smallest amount of what they had could imperil their health and well-being, they trusted God and gave anyway. What is important about their giving is not what or how much they gave, but how they gave it. Without selfishness, they gave to help others. Their giving was from the heart, with little hope or intention of receiving any sort of reward or recognition for their generosity. The monetary values of the widows’ gifts were small, but their value measured in the Kingdom was priceless. There is a significant similarity between their gift and the gift Jesus gave each of us. The widows offered their lives for God. Jesus offered his life for us. © J. S. Paluch Co.

Did you know? Monitor online acvi-ty on all devices ~ In the past, parents had been advised to place the family computer in an open area such as a kitchen or family room so that they may easily monitor acvity. Today, most social contact, especially among young people, is conducted almost exclusively on smart phones and tablets. Technology connues to rapidly change. All of us must connue our eorts to stay abreast of the many new mobile de-vice apps that may be used by young people to communicate with others and could potenally be used to ma-nipulate or abuse them.
