Are you hungry for more participation in music at Liturgy? Unfortunately, the mechanics of singing can cause an aerosol of 12 feet, making it too risky for congregational singing. There may be some other ways that you can participate. We hope to be able to start a Handbell Choir once again. If you are interested, please call Patty Brown at the Parish Office, 270-683-5641 or you can call or text her at 270-339-6644. Rehearsals will be in compliance with social distancing and masking requirements. We will need a com-mitment from five-eight people to have a successful handbell choir. We always need more cantors, keyboardists or guitarists in our Music Ministry. If you have those skills or if you play another instru-ment—such as percussion or a string instrument—please call Patty at the above number.

“But who do you say that I am?” Matthew 16:13-20

It is Peter who responds to Jesus, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” We tend to take Peter’s response for granted. Surely, after all he had heard and seen it was obvious that Jesus was the long awaited Messiah. Before we get to much exercise jumping to conclusions, let us examine the implications of Peter’s response. Pe-ter was not just a fisherman. He was in the fishing busi-ness with his brother Andrew and Zebedee, father of James and John. Fishing was a relatively lucrative trade. Peter was a substantial member of his community. When Jesus ask “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” other disciples waltz around the question. But when Je-sus ask, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answers with a l to be heresy and could put at risk Peter’s financial security, his family and his life. Such faith is a gift from God. God has given that gift to all of us. But, like Peter, we must choose to accept, proclaim and live our faith.

Your Life in the Holy Spirit, by Alan Schreck

Learn how to renew your life in the Holy Spirit, understand and receive spiritual gifts, and grow in love, joy, peace, and

other fruits that are the sign that the spirit grows in us.

Page 3: Fr. Jean-Rene Kalombo · 8/23/2020  · and receive spiritual gifts, and grow in love, joy, peace, and ... the Church’s responsibility to protect every member as best we can and

Our Masses have resumed and we are so thankful to be able to gather and worship! There is no age restriction on attending Mass, only that you are in good health and not high risk. In keeping with the 6-foot social distancing guidelines, the maximum number of people allowed in the church is 125. For weekend Masses, we will offer 125 color coded tickets per Mass which will be available 8-6pm M-F from the ramp door entrance of church. If these pickup times do not work for you, call the Parish Office. Please pick up one ticket for each person in your household. You must have your ticket to be able to attend Mass.

We have combined the guidelines set by the State of Kentucky and our Diocese for those who choose to attend the Liturgy in person. It is the Church’s responsibility to protect every member as best we can and these guidelines are created out of love and respect for each of you.

All attendees are required to wear masks with the exception of chil-dren 3 years old and younger. If you are not comfortable, or children are not mature enough to wear a mask for the entire liturgy, you should continue to worship from home. We ask that you bring your own mask. If you do not have one, we will have one available for you outside of church.

Please use the side ramp door to enter the church and the front doors to exit.

Families are to be seated in the spaces marked throughout the sanctu-ary. Only every other pew will be utilized. The short pews on the sides will allow 2 people from the same household. Hospitality Ministers will help in guiding families to the appropriate seats which will be marked with a placard.

The cry room is not open for gathering. However, the restroom is avail-able if needed. Only one person (unless family) is allowed in the cry room/restroom at a time. Others should wait outside the cry room door and maintain 6 feet between one another.

Because singing causes us to project our voices and therefore can propel the virus, the congregation is asked to refrain from singing. And to reduce risk, we will not use worship guides for the time being.

During the Our Father and Sign of Peace, please do not hold or shake hands with anyone outside of your family.

Offering baskets will be placed at the entrances to church.

For the communion procession, a hospitality minister will dismiss one row at a time. Parishioners are asked to keep 6 feet between the person in front of you and keep your mask on until the person in front of you receives the Eucharist. After consuming the Eucharist, replace your mask over your face and you may sanitize your hands before re-turning to your seat. Communion will be administered in the hands only.

For dismissal after church, hospitality ministers will dismiss each row beginning with the back of the church. Most everyone will be encour-aged to exit through the front doors. However, those who need to use the side entrance will be able to use the ramp.

Are you interested in taking communion to those in your home who cannot attend Mass in person? Call the Parish Office at 270-683-5641 to sign up for training.

Guidelines for attending Mass. Who is Jesus for you? Who is Jesus for your family, for your life? This is a simple question but very important for our faith, for our spiritual life. It is an important question because it deter-mines our relationship with Jesus. But it determines also our commitment and the way we interact with people, the way we see the world. 200 years ago, Jesus asked that ques-

tion to his apostles. After preaching the good news, after healing the sick, and after performing miracles, Jesus want-ed to know if his disciples knew who He was, his mission. That is why He asked his apostles, who do people say that I am? For some people, they saw Jesus like John the Baptist, others Elijah, and still others like a prophet. Now, Jesus asked his apostles, What about you? Who do you say that I am? In reply, Peter says to Jesus that you are the Messiah, you are the Son of God. Then Jesus praised Peter because he was right. He said the right thing. He knew who Jesus was. That was the response Jesus was expecting …. But what happened to Peter when Jesus was arrested and crucified? He denied Jesus. He denied his best friend. He said: I don’t know this guy. How us he to reconcile his profession of faith with his denial? Today, Jesus is addressing the same question to every-one of us. It is a personal question: Who is Jesus for you? I think from time to time, we need to pause and ask this im-portant question: Who is Jesus for me, for you? After being Catholic, Christians for years….After receiv-ing the sacraments, after being involved in different groups, or priests for many years, Who is Jesus for you? It is easy to profess the creed and say: Jesus is our Sav-ior, that Jesus is our Messiah, the Son of God. But in our daily reflection what do we profess? In my relationship with people, does it reflect that Jesus is my savior? Does it reflect that Jesus is my light, the truth? In the Creed we say that we believe in God…….. Does our life show that we believe in God? Does what I do show that I am Catholic, that I am Christian, that I believe in God? That I am part of the body of Christ? Our faith is not what we profess in the creed. Our faith should be reflected in what we do. Faith in action. Also, who is Jesus for you? Do you know Jesus? Have you ever had a personal encounter with Jesus? To know someone, we need to spend time with him, to talk to him and to listen to him.

Word of Life

“God’s love—individual, real, unchanging—is the true source of our worth, identity, and dignity. It really is not a question of who we are, but rather whose we are. Because his love will never change, nothing can reduce our God-given dignity, and nothing can diminish the immeasurable worth of our lives.”

An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacra-ment. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramental-ly, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit

me to be separated from You. Amen.

AMBIENTE SEGURO
