Tree of Life
We offer parishioners a way to remember a
loved one, a special event, special sacrament or
just to have a family name listed on one of our
leaves on our Tree of Life. This tree is located on
the St. Joseph side wall to the rear of our church.
At your convenience check it out and call the
parish office if you are interested in having a leaf
engraved.
"Is there anyone sick among you? He should ask for the presbyters of the church. They, in turn, are to pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord." (James11-35:J.4-J.5) Pa-
rishioners who are seriously ill or anticipating hospitalization for a serious illness are requested to call the parish office if they wish to receive the sacrament. Some hospitals provide full time priests/chaplains. Patients are regularly visited and offered the sacrament of the anointing of the sick, as well as daily Communion. This, however, presumes inpatient admission. Those patients who are interested in receiving this sacrament, but are scheduled for outpatient or same day sur-gery, should call the parish office to ensure anointing before going to the hospital.
The year 2020, it almost feels like writing
the year a sci-fi movie would be set in. I re-
member when 2001: A Space Odyssey
came out. I guess I am getting old!
My original 6yr term will be up this sum-
mer. I did meet with Archbishop Aymond
about being renewed for a second term. I
expressed to him the very positive feedback
that I have received from many people. He
also shared with me that he has also re-
ceived very positive reports concerning my
pastoral leadership in the parish. So the
fateful decision was made that I should con-
tinue as pastor.
I am immensely grateful for the many bless-
ings I have encountered here over the last
six years. There have also been some diffi-
cult and painful experiences. I have at times
questioned my vocation and my pastoral
leadership during these times. By the grace
of God, these challenges have allowed me
to grow in many areas. I am well aware
that I am imperfect. I take great comfort in
Fr. Henry Nouwen’s image of the Wounded
Healer. It is a wonderful book. I just fin-
ished reading a book about Pope Francis
called The Wounded Shepherd. These im-
ages have led me well in discerning request-
ing a new term as pastor.
I humbly ask you to speak with me if you
have any concerns. I cannot change what I
am unaware of, and simply complaining
about it in the parking lot will never im-
prove anything.
Love, Fr. Jimmy

Gracias.

Feast of the Baptism of the Lord –Refection's
Matthew’s account of Jesus’ baptism differs
from the accounts of the other evangelists in
one important respect. Matthew is the only
evangelist who tells of John’s reluctance to
baptize Jesus. In order to understand this ex-
change, it is helpful to consider the verses im-
mediately preceding today’s Gospel. Matthew
describes the process of baptism in three
steps. First, the initiate seeks out John. Jesus
has done this. Second, the person wades into
the Jordan River. Jesus is prepared to do this.
Third, the person acknowledges his or her
sins. Clearly, for Jesus this is not possible.
Therefore, John tries to stop him. Jesus’ sim-
ple response is enough to convince John oth-
erwise: “allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us
to fulfill all righteousness” (Matthew 3:15).
Even though he himself has not sinned, he will
take the sins of others upon himself in order to
fulfill his mission. This may have led John to
remember Isaiah’s “Suffering Servant,” who
takes upon himself the sins of the people. The
Lord called the suffering servant to be a light
to the world, giving sight to the blind and set-
ting prisoners free. As Peter and then Matthew
attest, this is the role Jesus takes on to fulfill
his mission.
With the Spirit of God you received in baptism,
how are you able to carry on Jesus’ mission?
