~In Our Thoughts & Prayers~ Homebound Parishioner of the Week

The results from the parish garage sale in June were a net profit of $5,875.28. Thank you especially to Marie LeMire who coordinated the effort and to all of you who cleaned out your closets and donated the sale items, to those of you who worked the sale, setting up, cleaning up, sorting, selling, etc. Know that your efforts have helped not just financially but think of all the new treasures you have given to those who made purchases at the sale. The following letter I want to share with you to in-form you about this petition signing effort. When we get copies of the petitions we will have them available after the Masses for your signatures. “Dear Monsignor, Father, and Pastoral Director, I am writing to urge your support of a citizen’s initi-ative petition drive which is underway in Michigan to help pass legislation to end the inhumane practice of dismem-berment abortion. This drive, organized by Michigan Right to Life, is operating under the committee name, Michigan Values Life. This petition is endorsed by the Michigan Catholic Conference and Michigan’s bishops. Legislation to ban this practice was passed by the state legislature earlier this year, but Governor Gretchen Whitmer has promised to veto the legislation when it reaches her desk. With a suc-cessful citizen’s initiative, we can sponsor legislation which will become law by a simple majority vote in the legislature, bypassing the Governor’s desk. The proposed legislation would ban the procedure by amending the state’s 2011 law banning partial-birth abortion. Right to Life is seeking to collect approximately 400,000 signatures. Because the campaign is issue-based and specific to legislation, churches can speak about and distribute information on the proposal. To be successful, our signatures as Catholics are needed and I am encourag-ing your participation. Please note that this petition drive should not be confused with the ‘Michigan Heartbeat Coalition’ petition. While the heartbeat petition is also gathering signatures, MCC has serious concerns with the proposal, as it could weaken existing Michigan abortion law. Michigan Heartbeat Coalition is NOT supported by MCC or Michigan’s bish-ops. For those of us in Michigan who value life, the way forward is clear. We must let our elected representatives know our opinions on this matter and do all that we can to explain to them why the Church teaches about the sanctity of life as she does. Fraternally yours in Christ, Most Reverend David J. Walkowiak Bishop of Grand Rapids”

Would you like to give the gift of Catholic School Edu-cation? Many of our parish families strug-gle to afford Catholic school tuition. Some decide they simply can't af-ford it, even though they want to provide their children with the blessings that such an education provides. Now you can help. All Saints Academy's Tuition Angel program makes it possible for you to donate to ASA, and direct your donation to help a youngster learn and grow in God's word. Make a real difference in the life of a child. Please call 364-9453, or go to our web page at www.asagr.org./tuition-angel-program to learn how you can make a difference to-day...and for years to come. Support ASA with Amazon Smile!
