Second Sunday of Lent February 25th READINGS
Genesis 22:1-2, 9a, 10-13, 15-18 Romans 8:31b-34 Mark 9:2-10
SACRED HEART CHURCH 125 Walsh St — Wolf Creek, MT
Office Hours: 10 am-3 pm Mon-Fri
1st Reading: Genesis 9:8—15
After the great flood, God told Noah of the covenant between heaven and earth. Never again would
a flood destroy the earth. To mark this covenant, the Lord set up a rainbow in the sky.
2nd Reading: 1 Peter 3:18—22
As the ark saved a chosen few in Noah’s day, so does baptism by faith save God’s chosen today. Baptism is “an appeal
to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
Gospel: Mark 1:12—15
The Spirit sent Jesus into the desert to fast and pray for forty days. Afterwards, Jesus appeared
in Galilee proclaiming, “the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

RITE OF ELECTION and the CALL TO
CONTINUING CONVERSION
THE RITE OF ELECTION is the second step on the catechumens journey toward Baptism. The Church chooses those it deems ready for initiation
and leads them into the more intense period of Lenten preparation. Those chosen inscribe their names in the BOOK OF THE ELECT as a promise of faithfulness to
the call they have received from Christ. At the Easter Vigil, they will be baptized, confirmed, and receive Eucharist. Thus they will be
fully initiated into the Body of Christ.
THE CALL TO CONTINUING CONVERSION is the final preparation for those who, already baptized in another Christian faith, wish to enter
into full communion with the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. The Church invites them to hear anew the Lord’s call to continual conversion and to be
faithful to their Baptism. At the Easter Vigil these candidates will share fully in the Sacramental life
of the Catholic Church.
First Sunday of Lent February 18, 2018 3:00 pm

SINCE THEY ARE BECOMING ONE WITH US IN OUR CHURCH, it is only fitting that we should be present at
this celebration to welcome and support them.
These celebrations occur every year in our Diocese at the beginning of Lent, and are celebrated in our Cathedral Church.
YOUR PRESENCE WILL LEND SUPPORT AND WELCOME!
