Dear Friends, Of course I would’ve rather stayed home here with you and our Father Joe, but since we all have our crosses to bear, I did my best to carry mine. And it really did turn out to be a wonderful time. Our parish pilgrimage to Italy. Forty-four of us. Four nights in Rome. Two nights in Assisi. Two nights in Florence. There were ups and downs for sure, but many many many more ups. We had rain and wind, but also sunshine and starshine. And when we really needed it to (like when we were waiting for a whole morning in the middle of Saint Peter’s Square), the weather was kind to us. We prayed some. We played some. We learned some. We ate some. We drank some. We saw the Sistine Chapel and the catacombs. We saw the tombs of Saint Francis and Saint Clare. We saw Michelangelo’s David and the great Pieta and so much in between. Yes, we did see the Pope. (The question is, did he see us?) We tried our best to be kind to one another and to be grateful to all the people who tried their best to make us comfortable and welcome. And all along the way, we remembered you. Needless to say, “remembering you” is good, but not quite good enough. I know that we disappointed many of you, by not packing you away in our luggage and taking you with us. I wish I could say you didn’t miss much, but you did miss—a lot. That’s the bad news. But here’s the good news. We have another parish pilgrimage scheduled. Our pastor Father Joe is leading it. We’re all invited. And it begins right now. This weekend. With this first Sunday of Advent. Today marks the beginning of a new Church year, and today we all begin again our year-long pilgrim journey through the mystery of Christ: his coming, his birth, his life and ministry, his suffering and death, his resurrection and his life among us in the power of the Holy Spirit, his call to us to share in his mission and his invitation to live with him forever in his Father’s house. It’s the journey of a lifetime, and every other pilrimage—be it to Italy or the Holy Land, Ireland or Portugalis meant to help tune us in to the sacredness of this “pilgrimage.” It happens right here and right now. No need to do anything “special.” No need to go anywhere “special.” Because the great lesson of pilgrimage is t hat everything and everywhere is “special.” Home. Work. School. Sports. Chores. Errands. Doctors’ visits. It all belongs. Everything belongs. It’s all part of the journey. And with daily prayer, with Sunday Mass and the sacraments, and by the day-by-day living out of our faith in loving service to others, we make our pilgrim’s progress, closer and closer to our Lord and closer and closer to one another. Sad to have missed Italy? Mad? Well, here’s a chance to make it up to yourself. The bus is leaving. Father Joe has saved you a seat right next to Jesus. Climb aboard! Bring a friend! And together let’s journey along through what is sure to be a grace-filled new year. Love, Fr.Colin

Dear Friends,

Of course I would’ve rather stayed home here with you and our Father Joe, but since we all have our crosses to bear, I did my best to carry mine.

It’s the journey of a lifetime, and every other pilrimage—be it to Italy or the Holy Land, Ireland or Portugal—is meant to help tune us in to the sacredness of this “pilgrimage.” It happens right here and right now. No need to do anything “special.” No need to go anywhere “special.” Because the great lesson of pilgrimage is that everything and everywhere is “special.”

Making a Difference- Archbishop’s Annual Appeal It is difficult to imagine children and their families spending Thanksgiving out on the street without a safe and warm place to sleep. Sadly, this would be a hash reality for many in our community if it were not for the assistance provided by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark. For over 100 years, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark has provided relief to so many families within the four counties it serves. Catholic Charities operates seven shelters which provide a safe, caring, respectful, and dignified refuge for our homeless brothers and sisters. Your support of the Annual Appeal makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those served by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark. Through your generosity to the Annual Appeal, Catholic Charities is able to continue their tradition of compassion and concern for each individual who walks through their door.

MEDITATION

THE CHRISTMAS DISPENSATION

Colin Dodds

Our lives are half over,

another thousand years have passed,

a fresh generation has disproven itself

and salvation has, expressly, not come

But a makeshift dream of lit houses

in a lake, to lie,

to promise transformation

Maybe

I've disproven myself

But a child's smile

forgives me

So I join the stream of rubies

vanishing over interstate

to give money, or whatever i have

to give to children

Heating & Air Conditioning ~ Everyone knows that there are some months in which our electricity bill or heating bill

is higher than others. Well, it’s the same with the Church. As you know, we use an additional

way of paying for our extra energy months. In the back of the church each Sunday you will find

separate ENERGY envelopes. If you should happen to hit the jackpot that week, and wish to

throw a dollar or two in that envelope, we’d greatly appreciate it! You can throw these special

envelopes right in the collection with your regular envelope. The energy envelopes will not be

mailed to you. They will simply be in the back of the church, so if you don’t spot them, be sure

to ask the ushers at your Mass. Thanks so much. And special thanks to those who have already

been doing it regularly. It makes a difference!!!

Online Giving…

You have the opportunity to make donations to our Sunday collection online! To sign up, go to the St. Anne website – www.stannefairlawnnj.org

There are several ways to access the system:

1. Underneath the scrolling slideshow on the home page, on the bottom right-hand corner, you

will see a light blue icon with a $ sign. Click that icon to go directly to the system.

OR 2. From the homepage, check the left-hand menu options. The second to last menu option says

“envelopes & online giving.” Click that link, and a page with various giving options will appear.

Select the Online Giving option to be taken directly to the system.

Once you are taken to the new site, click on the section that says Create New Account. Next you will see New User Account Registration. Fill out the form and click “submit.”

When you are enrolled, you can go into Manage My Account, where you will see My Payment Methods. Here you can choose to have the funds deducted from your checking or bank account (you will need your routing and account numbers on hand). Under Manage My Account, you will also see Give a New Gift. There you will decide when and how much to give. (In the list, Offertory Collection means the Sunday collection.) You can select recurring or one time gifts. You also have the option to access all the other special envelopes you would normally find in your envelope packet and which are generally one-time donations.

Each time you go to Mass, get a card that says “I have made my donation online” and put it in the collection when the usher comes around. Thanks so much for giving online!
