2.3 Operation Safety

All personnel operating, and maintaining this machine shall read and understand this manual. For questions or concerns contact the manufacturer.

• This machine shall be operated, and maintained by trained and/or qualified personnel only.

• Do not exceed the manufacturer’s load rated capacity. Read capacity sticker on the Pail Partner or load capacity rating in the specifications section of this operation manual if you are unsure.

• NEVER allow untrained operators or children to play with, sit, stand, ride on or operate the Pail Partner.

• NEVER use the lifting capabilities to lift or transport personnel.

• Do not raise or lower a load while you are en-route. Wait until you are in the loading area and have stopped before raising or lowering the load.

• When loading keep your feet clear of the wheels and lifting/lowering pail holder.

• Do not place hands or objects between the frame rails when lifting/lowering device is activated.

• Make sure fingers and hands are not caught in, on, or between the device and other objects.

• Place the load so that it will not slip, shift or fall off the lifting platform.

• Make sure the platform is all the way under the load. Always load towards the rear.

• Do not throw, drop or bounce objects onto the device.

• Keep the center of gravity of the load as low as possible by placing heavier objects under lighter objects.

• If you have an obstructed view, use an assistant to help in handling the load.

• The load should never obstruct your view when maneuvering the device.

• Avoid operating the device on an inclined surface. The device is weighted to counter act the weight of an unsupported lifted load. This device weight must be manually controlled by te operator at all times.

• Never leave the device parked on an inclined surface. Engage caster wheel locks when the unit is not in use..

• Operators should push the device at an appropriate walking pace.

• Always stand behind the device when operating the lift.

• Never place an item on the lift that can roll off or tip over the unit.

• This device should be used on flat surfaces or on slight inclines. The device weight needs to be manually controlled by the operator at times.

• Be careful when approaching and turning corners. Slow down and use care with the loaded device to prevent load instability.

• Floors that are damaged, cracked or uneven can catch wheels or castors in them. Dirty, dusty, oily, slippery or wet floors will reduce the ability of the operator to maintain traction. Without friction, the operator may slip and fall due to exerting excessive force to move the load.

• Operators should wear protective foot wear while using the Retail Handling Solutions products.

• Operators should receive training on how to maneuver heavy loads.

• Make sure the load is securely placed towards the back of the lifting platform. If the weight of the load is over the tip of the platform it may cause the unit to fall forwards.

• Make sure not to tip or tilt the hand truck when transporting a load. For your safety and the security of your load maneuver on level, even ground only.

2.4 Labeling

This machine has labeling to indicate potential hazards this machine may pose when operating and/or maintaining the machine. All labels must be legible. If any label is missing, damaged, or otherwise illegible contact the manufacturer for replacement labels.

5. OperationBefore using your Pail Partner make sure to read the entire Operator’s Manual. Familiarize yourself with the control switch and lifting speed. Practice using the lifting device without a load; make sure to know the lifting and lowering functions before loading and unloading. If your Pail Partner has customized or supplementary parts, install them using the directions provided. Always use the manufacturer’s provided battery charger to charge the battery properly.

1. Make sure the Pail Partner is charged and the battery charging unit is unplugged from the power supply. Store the charger is a safe place.

2. toggle switch is located adjacent to the hand control.

• Pressing the top of the control toggle switch will extend the lifting actuator.

• Pressing the bottom of the control toggle switch will retract the lifting actuator.

• The linear actuator is equipped with an end of travel clutch that engages when the actuators end of stroke is reached. The clutch makes an audible ratcheting sound when it is engaged. When the clutch sound is heard release the control toggle switch.

• The actuator clutch will also engage if there is an overload condition.

• Test the lift function of the Pail Partner. Become familiar with its operation and rate of travel.

• Observe the height of the mast and actuator when fully ravised.

3. Make sure you have a clear path. Test the wheels by rolling the machine back and forth without a load. Verify that the wheels are securely attached to their axle.

• The swivel casters are equipped with a locking feature. Test the operation of the caster locks.

• The Pail Partner is a counter weighted lifting device. It has added weight designed into to allow it to reach over an elevated surface to pick up its load.

• Become familiar with starting and stopping the weighted Pail Partner.

• The operator must always be in control of the weighted Pail Partner when it is in motion.

• Inclined surfaces should be approached with caution. The weight of the device must be controlled and held at all times. Inclined surfaces will increase the force that the operator must overcome to either push of hold back to control the Pail Partner.

4. The Pail Partners primary function is to lift and transport 5 Gallon Pails. The pail lifting arms lift the pails from the circumferential rings that are under the pails lid and handle.

• Engage a pail with the Pail Partner’s lifting arms in their fully lowered condition.

• Pails are not of a standard design, but have similar features and sizes. Before working with a pail verify the following.

• The pail lifting arms closely fit to the pail sides and that the pail can be totally engaged by the arms.

• Engage the pail when the pail’s handle is positioned on the opposite side from the pail lifting arms.

Page 11: FPP-020 Pail Partner Owner’s Manualretailhandlingsolutions.com/images/uploads/files/FPP020... · 2019-10-04 · FPP-020 Retail Handling Solutions 5 FPP-020 General Training - Only

• The pail must be engaged completely on ½ of its outer circumference.

• Only pick up a pail that is support around its outer edge. If a space is seen between the back of the pail and the pail lifting arms do not pick it up. Push the Pail Partner forward to completely engage the pail.

• Verify that the pails circumferential rings are intact and not damaged. Make sure the outer ring is sturdy enough to lift a stack of pails from it.

• Lift the pail off of the floor by approximately 2 inches. Enough lift to have the pail clear any small floor obstructions or door thresholds when being transported in the Pail Partner.

• Transport the pail with the Pail Partner

• Become familiar with the visibility of the pail when it is being pushed.

• Test the turning radius of the Pail Partner with the Pail in place.

• Lift the Pail and place it on top of another Pail.

• Learn to stack and unstack pails using the Pail Partner.

• The Pail Partner is equipped with a Pail Retainer

• The Retainer is designed to hold or retain a stack of three pails.

• Never pick up or try to transport a stack taller than three pails.

• Manually lower the retaining bracket over the three pail stack when the stack is supported by the Pail Partner.

• The Pail Retainer must be manually raised before disengaging the Pail Partner from the pail stack.

• If the Pail Partner does not disengage from the pails then stop pulling the Pail Partner. The Pail Retaining bracket is still engaged and it needs to be corrected.

• Transport a pail or stack of pails with the Pail Partner raised just enough to clear any small floor obstructions or door thresholds. Keep the stack of pails as low and stable as possible when handling them.

• Practice handling the stack of three pails.

• Practice engaging and disengaging the pail Stack Retaining Bracket. This needs to become a customary operator function.

• The Pail Partner has a linear actuator that has travel capabilities of 36”.

• Never lift a pail or stack of pails above the height of the Pail Partner Lift Guide Rails.

• Use the Pail Partner to elevate the top pail to an elevation to easily transfer a single pail it to another surface.

• The Pail Partner is supplied with a fold down shelf that rests over the Pail Lifting Arms.

• This shelf is used if boxes of product or other items need to be transported on the Pail Partner.

• Transport items on the Pail Partner with the lift actuator in its lowest retracted position.

• Do not lift boxes or packages above eye level or higher than the Pail Partners Lift Guide Rails.
