Immediately following the release, we headed down to California on January 15th with Ayla and Max of Ludic to attend the NAMM Show, the annual convention of the National Association of Music Merchants. We were graciously invited as guests of Fender Musical Instruments which launched its latest line of guitars, the American Ultra. Ayla and Max were requested to play multiple times at various events and were met with raving reviews! Stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram pages to see pictures and videos from the various NAMM events we attended!

FP NEWSLETTERDRUMEO FESTIVAL
Ludic, the incredible Vancouver trio that features Ayla Tesler-Mabe alongside brothers Max and Rhett Cunningham, are set to treat us to their first two singles to a double A-side 7-inch via Kingfisher Bluez!
Both "2 Myself" and "My Love" have made quite a splash online, so it only makes sense that they'd each be treated with the respect they deserve (My Love has over 800,000 streams!). As such, the record will be available on two different colours of vinyl, with two different covers, respectively.
The release will drop on February 8. Ludic will also be available to sign copies of the vinyl when they play their release show at Neptoon Records that same day.
In other news, the band’s producer, Ryan Worsley has been nominated for a Juno Award for his engineering work on the Ludic song, 2 Myself! Check it out below!
BC ARTIST HIGHLIGHT :LUDIC When I was 15 years old, I attended my first ever drum festival.
I had a teacher named Gio who was really connected into the local music scene and he knew all the ‘drum guys’ at the music stores. So when he invited me to the Vancouver International Drum Festival, I was thrilled to go, but also super nervous. The lineup featured superstars like Simon Phillips, Terry Bozzio, Horacio “El Negro” Hernández, Matt Cameron, and Jack DeJohnette.
I remember walking in and seeing thousands of people in the venue. And I couldn’t stop thinking: “these are ALL drummers”.
Dom Famularo came out for his opening talk. He has always been such a passionate speaker. I sat there in awe listening to every motivating word and thinking “this is where I belong”. And then I watched with my jaw on the floor as Simon Phillips seamlessly played both right and left hand-lead. Terry Bozzio came out, sat behind his kit, said a short prayer and then proceeded to play a 60-minute solo that was more like a musical composition. And then Horacio Hernández came out and as he played it felt like there were eight people drumming at the same time.
Going home after the festival, I felt like my life was changed forever. I remember getting behind my kit and playing my own 60-minute solo in honor of Mr. Bozzio. And even now as I look back, I still get inspired by the feeling at that event: the vibrant, positive energy, and the belief that I belonged to a community way larger than I’d ever imagined.
Fast-forward to today -- festivals are few and far between; music stores just don’t have the budgets to put on events like that anymore. And drum communities have changed, too. There’s a good chance that you know more drummers ‘online’ than you do in your local city -- especially if you’re a part of a community like Drumeo Edge where you can connect with other students and teachers from around the world, anytime.
It goes without saying that I’m a big believer in online education. It’s accessible, it connects you to a world of educators that would otherwise be impossible to learn from, and it’s affordable. But I also care deeply about building deeper relationships and experiencing musical performances.
You can watch a drum solo on YouTube and be amazed, but if you’re in the room for that very same solo it might just change your life. And you can chat with a fellow drummer online, but once you meet them in person you can forge a friendship that’ll inspire you forever.
So when I decided to create the Drumeo Festival, it was designed to give you the same feeling that I had when I first entered the festival hall as a 15 year old kid.
It’s crazy that Dom Famularo was the host back then and he’s also agreed to host the first ever Drumeo Festival as well. And Horacio Hernández is also going to perform. It’s all coming full circle. We’re going to have an AMAZING lineup of drummers. We’re busily preparing the final lineup with 10 total spots for the two-day event and some very special extras for the VIP attendees.
I hope you’ll join us so you can experience being in a room where you’re amazed, inspired, and can say without question that “this is where I belong”.

BRUCE’S CORNERLast week the retired basketball star Kobe Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash. To those who do not follow sports or just don’t follow basketball, I’m sure the level of the outpouring of grief caused by his death may be a little surprising. While I do follow sports, I have never been the biggest basketball fan but was aware that he was an exceptional talent.
A sudden death is hard to prepare for compared to a death due to a long illness and the reaction to it is intense. I suppose that the size of the reaction is in relation to the positive impact that the person had in his or her life. And as we grief for Kobe, I am struck with the thought that there were other people who lost their lives that day and, other than his daughter, nobody will remember where they were when any of the others died. Think of Stevie Ray Vaughn and his helicopter crash. I remember where I was when I heard about his death, but have no idea how many other people, or their names, died with him that day. Just the way it is.
Another thought that crossed my mind is that he was only 42 years old. Elvis died when he was 42. So did Gary Coleman. Alas, so did Bobby Kennedy.
42 is young, especially the further away you get from it, and I ache for what we have missed in our lives when a great talent is gone too soon. John Lennon was 40 years old and I consider him to be the greatest loss of an iconic influence in my life. It still hurts 40 years later. And lest we forget the artists that died at 27 years old. Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin, Winehouse and Cobain. What did we lose with their deaths?
But here’s the moral: Respect each day because you just don’t know what is just around the corner.

ARTISTS WE LOVE & WORK WITH
POCKET. GROOVE. SKILL. BRAINS. POSITIVITY. Myles started working with FUSIONpresents back in 2008, joining the Artist
Development program taking guitar, bass and singing lessons. After excelling at the Terry Fox Rock School and founding Royal Oak with fellow musician and friend Brayson Wong, Myles eventually came back to FP to
join The Apartment and very recently become part of FP’s executive management team. Myles has been called “one of BC’s best young
drummers”, and in our opinion, is not only one of our most skilled multi-instrumentalists, but also a strategic business man and all around excellent
person. We’re thrilled and honoured to work and play with Myles!
