Letter from Board President, Tom Nicholson

WelcomeNew Board Trustees
I am honored and excited to become the new president of the Iowa 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees. Many years ago, I began my 4-H experience as a member of the Center Trail Blazers 4-H Club in Calhoun County. rough 4-H, I’ve developed a passion for raising and showing livestock and gained other valuable skills in leadership, communication and teamwork that I have been able to apply in my personal life and throughout my professional career. Now as a Warren County 4-H parent, I’ve had the good fortune to observe my son and daughter enjoying many of the same opportunities that 4-H provides.
Over the years, advancements in technology, a global economy, population demographics and other factors have reshaped the Iowa landscape. However, the 4-H mission for helping young people develop life skills and empowering them to reach their full potential remains as important and relevant today as it was when the rst 4-H clubs were established in Iowa over 100 years ago.
e Iowa 4-H Foundation is committed to providing opportunities for youth development and supporting 4-H programs throughout the state. e Board of Trustees is a highly motivated and talented group of individuals who share the values and core principles of 4-H and are committed to ensuring its sustainability for generations to come. Our executive director, Albert Grunenwald, and his sta do a great job of serving the Foundation and work closely with ISU Extension and Outreach to support 4-H program initiatives.
I want to also take this opportunity to thank the individuals and organizations that have provided nancial support along with the many volunteers who have generously given their time and talents over the past year. Your contributions are very much appreciated. Iowa 4-H Foundation highlights from this past year include:
• $73,000 in scholarships were awarded to 72 Iowa 4-H’ers
• Net proceeds from special events such as the annual 4-H Gala and golf outings totaled over $220,000
• e new safe-room was completed at the Iowa 4-H Center this past summer
• e Iowa 4-H Foundation provided $1.2 million in direct nancial support and value added services to the Iowa 4-H Program
ere are many dierent ways to support the Iowa 4-H Foundation. Please check out the Iowa 4-H Foundation website (www.iowa4hfoundation.org) for more information on how you can make a contribution to support Iowa 4-H’ers. Please join me in supporting the Iowa 4-H Foundation as we continue to “Make the Best Better” for Iowa 4-H.
Finally, I want to oer a special thank you to Bob Butcher, outgoing board president. Bob’s leadership and dedication to the Iowa 4-H Foundation serve as a great model for us to follow. We look forward to working with you to grow 4-H in Iowa!
Sincerely,
Tom NicholsonPresident, Iowa 4-H Foundation
At the Iowa 4-H Foundation Annual Board meeting in October, one new trustee and one new youth trustee were elected to serve on the Board of Trustees.
Heather Van Nest is the Global Application product line marketing manager for John Deere in Ankeny, Iowa. She was a member of the Sac City
Busy Bees 4-H Club in Sac County for nine years. “4-H played a signicant role in my development as a person and as a leader. It helped shape my capabilities and talents in communication and leadership,” said Van Nest. Heather graduated from Iowa State University and Kelly School of business at Indiana University with a master’s degree in strategic management.
Jessica Bigelow is a junior at Johnston High School and is a Polk County 4-H’er. She has been a member of the Valley Pacers 4-H Club for eight years, serves as
a member of State 4-H Youth Council and has served on the Senior and Intermediate County Councils in Polk County. Bigelow has made it a personal goal to complete an exhibit project in all 4-H project areas before she graduates from high school. “Because of my 4-H experience, I have grown tremendously, from someone who was shy and timid to a well-rounded peer leader,” says Bigelow. Jessica attends Johnston High School where she is a member of National Honor Society, the Silver Cord Program and the soccer, cross-county and bowling teams. She has also participated in the Iowa Youth Congress and serves on the Student Leadership Board for Meals for the Heartland. Upon graduation, Bigelow plans to attend Iowa State University and major in business with a minor in communications with future aspirations of being a CEO of a non-prot organization.

Decades of Learning and Growth
e numbers are impressive: 50 years as a leader and mentor, and a century as a club. But more important is the impact and meaning of those numbers.
Sugar Grove Sunshine 4-H started in 1917 in Sugar Grove Number 9, a one-room schoolhouse in rural Dallas County. e club was led by Mrs. A.J. Hays and had 10 members. ey met every week during the summer, followed by an exhibition. Since 1917, Sugar Grove Sunshine has had many dedicated leaders, and thousands of members have been positively impacted by 4-H. Today the club is based in Dallas Center and is very active, with more than 45 members from Adel, Dallas Center, Grimes, Perry and Waukee.
Lorna (Taylor) Baldner Grow has been involved in 4-H for 72 years. Lorna and her twin sister, Lois, joined the Union Lassies 4-H Club in 1943 when their family moved to a farm east of Indianola. Lorna’s mother served as a leader, and Lorna was a member through her freshman year in college. At that time, boys and girls clubs were separate, with the boys’ clubs focused on agriculture and the girls’ clubs focused on homemaking with a three-year cycle of foods, clothing and home improvement. Lorna continues that three-year emphasis cycle in her club today. Lorna served as county 4-H Girl’s president in 1949 or 1950 when Warren County was chosen as a pilot county to raise funds for the State 4-H Camp near Madrid. “I remember going to homes and explaining the project and asking for donations. at was the beginning of many years for the state 4-H camping center — rst tents, then platforms, then cabins. Hickory was the rst and a wonderful setting for many 4-H and rural young people programs and camps.”
By Tina Greiman, Iowa 4-H Foundation Trustee
It was Lorna’s seven years in 4-H that inuenced her decision to pursue a college education, the rst in her family to do so. She received a degree in home economics from Simpson College. Lorna’s 4-H experience inuenced her to become an extension home economist; two inuential summers working as a trainee under Winter Mackey, the Madison County home economist, solidied her decision. Lorna began as the Dallas County home economist in 1954 and was in charge of the Girls’ 4-H program, Women’s program and Rural Youth Program.
She served in this capacity for two years and then married Herman (Bud) Baldner and settled in rural Dallas Center. Lorna has been part of Sugar Grove Sunshine 4-H Club since 1966 when her oldest daughter, Glenace, became a member. Over the years, the other Baldner children — Curtis, Diane and Ruth — and many grandchildren were also active in 4-H. Lorna says 4-H has inuenced her life by improving her condence and communication skills and through friendly competition. “I think good, honest competition helps build growth, strengthens

character and can be fun. No matter what the ribbon or recognition is, the important part is to learn, to understand another’s viewpoint, accept and go on. It is the process that’s important.”
So, after 50 years, why is Lorna still an active and engaged leader? It’s simple. “It is a joy to see these youngsters come into the club and get involved. To see a member struggle, gain condence and begin to participate on a greater level is good. It’s gratifying to see a member with condence and developing skills to take on a leadership role, to mentor others and to be able to relate to adults. Besides, I am having fun. And I have never stopped learning.”
Sugar Grove Sunshine will hold its 100th anniversary celebration in September or October 2016. e club invites all former members and leaders to join in the festivities. Please contact Lorna Baldner Grow at [email protected] if you’d like more details or to be added to the invitation list.
The 1st decade: “My mother (Lorna) taught and modeled three important lessons through 4-H. First, go big or go home. Don’t do anything halfway. Next, don’t limit yourself to what is, but instead, look at what could be. Be the change you want to see in others. The nal lesson is to always operate with integrity. Giving your word means a promise, and promises are not to be broken.”
-Glenace Baldner Shank
The 2nd decade: “Lorna is super at developing children into leaders. She pushes people beyond where they think their limits are. She is forceful enough, yet kind and caring; she encourages you to get things done! Lorna and my years in 4-H helped me grow as a person in ways I never could have on my own.”
— Kathy Johnson
The 3rd decade: “What Lorna teaches and models is timeless and is as relevant today for my daughter as it was when I was in 4-H: character, leadership, service, doing the
right thing. Lorna is incredibly supportive but she also holds members accountable. I had the privilege of being a state 4-H ocer, and Lorna’s encouragement played a huge role as I pursued that dream.”
— Lisa (Young) Ashley
The 4th decade: “Lorna taught me it was ok to try and do new things. She was always willing to help push me further and nd the next step. The condence I gained from these experiences has helped me become the teacher I am today. I hope I am able to pass along that curiosity to my students to try and do things that are new to them.”
— Sarah Howell
The 5th decade: “Lorna has taught me how to work hard, a skill that is often forgotten these days. Lorna taught me to take all projects to the nish and try my best no matter how much I didn’t want to. She is a truly inspirational woman.”
— Makayla Bauer

At an early age, Ellen Wagener knew what she was meant to be: an artist.
Born in DeWitt, Iowa, Ellen has seen her career take her to Washington D.C., back home to Iowa and now across the country to Scottsdale, Arizona, where she has spent the last 15 years. Her artwork can be seen in exhibits and installations in many places, notably in the new Linn County Courthouse and at Iowa State University. On the ISU campus alone, 18 of her works are on display.
She is quick to credit her participation in 4-H as being instrumental to her success. “I was a shy and painfully awkward young lady,” Ellen says. “4-H was absolutely the best thing that ever happened to me, in terms of career development.”
While not a “farm-girl,” Ellen made the most of her 4-H experience participating in a variety of projects, from photography and sewing to foods and presentations, and of course, creative arts. “I learned who I was and the goals I set through 4-H really helped to dene the rest of my life.”
As a member of the 1982-83 State 4-H Council, Ellen even found herself up for a state oce. She was not elected. “I was heartbroken,” she said, laughing. “But, I learned a very important lesson that has stayed with me. I needed to prepare and I didn’t; I knew better.”
A winning art exhibit in the 4-H Building at the Iowa State Fair led to Wagener’s rst ocial exhibition and introduced her to Lynette Pohlman, curator for the Brunnier Art Museum at Iowa State, who would become a lifelong friend. “at exhibition at Iowa State was the rst opportunity I had to really see myself as a serious artist. I knew then that this is what I wanted to do with my life.”
For Wagener, things came full circle this past spring and summer when her exhibit, e Ever Changing Land was on display at the Brunnier. Featuring pastel depictions of the Iowa landscape, in all seasons and weather patterns, the artist seeks to provide a dierent perspective on a subject that many nd ordinary.
“I started painting Iowa landscapes because I wanted to feel a connection to the land and its sense of longevity and commitment and to really represent our part in world food production,” Ellen said. “Iowa is so much
more than people think it is and I wanted to show something dierent about Iowa through my art.”
Wagener is proud of her roots in 4-H. She talks about her experiences frequently and nds that 4-H often comes up in conversation.
One such conversation occurred before the opening of the exhibition at the Brunnier Art Museum. During dinner before the opening reception, Ellen connected with Glen and Mary Jo Mente, long-time supporters of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. at conversation inspired Ellen to make a gift to the University Museums collection in honor of Glen and Mary Jo and their commitment to Iowa 4-H’ers. You’ll nd the work on display at the Iowa 4-H Foundation oce.
Ellen’s passion is contagious. Whether discussing 4-H or her artwork, one can sense her commitment to her work and to her roots. “I’m really on a mission to get people to connect and to really look around them and appreciate where they come from. My art is my way of doing that.”
ank you, Ellen, for your commitment to 4-H and for being a positive ambassador for the program.

Program Priority: Communication and the Arts
Self-expression can take a variety of forms. 4-H allows young people to use the communications and arts programs to think creatively, communicate and explore artistic opportunity. Communication skills are vital to the future successes of 4-H’ers. Our 4-H youth gain condence when speaking in front of others, feel comfortable asking questions, demonstrate good listening skills, use technology to express ideas, create products to share ideas and express themselves through the creative process.
Ellen Wagener found her passion for artistic expression through her experiences in 4-H. Today’s communication and arts programs help 4-H’ers to discover their own passions and to develop valuable skills that will benet them well into the future.

Allie Lansman is more than just a college student. Utilizing citizenship and leadership skills she gained through 4-H, Allie has become an advocate for living a healthy lifestyle and has become a positive role model for others.
A former Webster County 4-H’er, Allie belonged to the Elkhorn Eagles where her passion for 4-H began. “Some kids had dance, some kids had sports but 4-H was my thing. It was what I enjoyed, and I tried to be the best 4-H’er that I could be,” said Allie. Every year, Allie tried to complete more projects than the last year. She completed 42 projects during her nal year of 4-H, not including her poultry and rabbit projects and earned the nickname “Super 4-H’er” from her fellow club members. After graduation, Allie continued her 4-H involvement.
While attending community college, Allie was a 4-H leader and program leader in Webster County for two years specializing in poultry and rabbit projects. It is a family tradition to be a leader; her mom was a club leader and has continued to care about the 4-H’ers even after Allie was done with 4-H. Allie attributes her success to what she learned in 4-H: citizenship, leadership and communications.
As a leader, Allie put her 4-H leadership skills to work in her county and later became involved at the national level. In 2013, Allie was chosen to serve on the National 4-H Healthy Living Management team as a National 4-H Youth Ambassador. is organization is the only national team that includes a youth perspective and its main focus is promoting health and well-being. ey cover topics like nutrition, physical tness, anti-bullying, emotional health, social health and risk management. ere are ve ambassadors from all over the nation that have the privilege to be a part of this team. Allie’s main focus is nutrition, healthy eating, obesity and weight management.
Allie has a personal commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle. Almost three years ago, she lost 50 pounds by dieting and exercising. Although it has not been easy, she has managed to maintain a healthy weight ever since. One exciting experience Allie had as a Youth Ambassador was the opportunity to visit the Biggest Loser Ranch in California to take part in NBC’s hit television show and promote 4-H’s part in healthy living. It was very personal for Allie to be a part of this experience because of her own weight

Championing Her CauseLansman promotes a healthy lifestyle as National 4-H Youth Ambassador.
4-H citizenship and leadership programs empower young people to recognize needs in their communities and to take action to ll those needs. In 4-H, we
emphasize service learning and value the inclusion of youth in community, state or national decision-making experiences. 4-H’ers are provided opportunities to connect with their communities and to learn from adult leaders as they gain a better understanding of their role as the future leaders of our world.
Allie Lansman applied her leadership and communication skills gained from her 4-H experience as she works to improve
healthy living lifestyles for all youth. Today’s 4-H’ers are learning the leadership and citizenship skills that will be necessary when they step up into roles of civic or community leadership.

loss journey. Allie even had the privilege of doing a live news interview with one of the e Biggest Loser nalists to share their story. “Childhood obesity is prominent in the United States, and so far it is not going away,” said Allie. “I know how I felt growing up overweight and even though I was good at pretending I was happy, I wasn’t. If I could connect with a kid and let them know that there is hope and they can do it, I will continue to tell my story and hopefully inspire other kids.”
Allie is currently a senior at Iowa State University majoring in dietetics. “I am making my future about helping individuals,” said Allie. Although her term on the management team will be up next summer, Allie will continue her work. She was recently accepted onto the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation leadership team whose namesake was one of the founders of Johnson & Johnson products. e foundation focuses
a signicant part of their funding towards to health and improving health, focusing on childhood obesity. While on this leadership team, Allie will help compile curriculum and even work to create a new curriculum that will be oered to all 50 states in the hopes of eliminating childhood obesity.
Allie is dedicated to improving the world around her and inspiring others. She is even thinking about becoming a motivational speaker to share her struggles and accomplishments with those who are facing some of the same challenges she has had. Her dream is to be an entrepreneur and promote a healthier way of living here in Iowa. Although she has less time now, she does not want to stray too far away from her 4-H roots and the important values that it has taught her. Allie is certainly an excellent example of the positive outcomes of the 4-H program.

Allen and Dee have four children: Andrew (Megan), Matthew, Michael and Jacob. Darrel and Tammy have three children: Morgan, Logan and Mackenzie.
For many 4-H members, 4-H is a fun activity that can connect you with friends and help you learn and grow. However, for the Burt family in Marshall County, Iowa, 4-H is much more than that. It is a livelihood. Barbara, Allen and Darrel Burt own and operate the family hog farm. is farm started with Allen’s 4-H swine project. Barbara and her sister Carol were members of the Marion Merry Maids, while Allen and Darrel were members of the Vienna Pacesetter 4-H Club in Marshall County. ese two clubs joined to become the Marshall County Mounties 4-H Club, a club that their children would be enrolled in.
e family farm goes way back to their grandparents, totaling ve generations. During this time, numerous animals were raised there; however, around their parents’ time, the farm was primarily producing cattle. After nishing last in his cattle class at the 1970s Central Iowa Fair, Allen decided to purchase three sows and 30 pigs from Ken Cook for the next year’s 4-H project.
Barbara, Allen and Darrel spoke highly of Ken’s compassion for promoting swine and teaching young adults. Ken is the perfect match to the 4-H mission, “Empowering youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults.” Each year, Allen and Darrel grew their swine 4-H project by farrowing and breeding sows. After graduating college, Allen and Darrel saw swine as a way to stay competitive in the farming market. Now, the Burt family farm houses 750 sows and sells 20,000 pigs a year in their farrow-to-nish operation. e farm supports ve full-time family members, eight additional employees, and other family members during winter and summer breaks. Also, the Burt family hires eight additional employees. Barbara and Darrel commented, “During 4-H, our parents challenged us to keep records, learn nances and to do our best in whatever we wanted to do.” e rst 4-H swine project of Allen’s led to a successful family business. Since it began, the 4-H program has been a leader in promoting science and technology education for young people. 4-H’ers understand how to use and integrate new technologies and how to be critical consumers of information. Traditional programs such as animal science, agronomy and family consumer sciences join new programs like robotics, rocketry and computer science. Today’s STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programs promote opportunities for young people that allow them to grow through experimentation and hands-on learning developed by Iowa State University.
Technology changes quickly and it’s important that 4-H’ers understand how to adapt to and implement new technologies. As the Burt family has utilized new developments to grow their hog operation, so too do 4-H’ers as they look to STEM to improve their 4-H projects.

It was an ambitious goal: to qualify for and compete in the Boston Marathon. is past April, John Venner, a former 4-H’er from Boone County, achieved this life-long goal alongside his father, Tom, also a 4-H alum and fellow marathoner. e atmosphere in Boston made for an incredible experience, one that neither Venner will soon forget.
John Venner and his brother, Jake, grew up running. eir participation prompted their parents, Tom and Julie, to start doing fun runs as a way to get healthy. Running soon became a major part of the family’s life. John ran cross country, indoor track and outdoor track at Truman State University. Tom has run seven marathons and hopes to continue.
Running since 1897, the Boston Marathon is the oldest annual marathon in the world and has strict qualifying standards. Runners must complete a certied race with a qualifying time between three and four hours, depending on age, to be considered for the 26.2 mile race. “I remember thinking in middle school that I really wanted to run that marathon,” John said.
Each year, the Boston Marathon hosts thousands of the world’s top runners, all competing for a winning time in this prestigious race. John and Tom Venner competed with 26,000 other runners, cementing a bond amongst marathoners. “You really become part of a tight-knit community,” Tom said. “You understand all of the time, eort and hard work that went in to train for the race.”
A highlight of the race came right as Tom crossed the nish line. A moment of silence marked the two-year anniversary of the bombing at the Boston Marathon. e father and son duo found themselves standing at the very spot where the rst bomb went o two years ago. “To have all of that happen

right as we crossed the nish line was pretty incredible,” John said.
e Venner family is as dedicated to the 4-H program as they are to their running. Tom, a 4-H alum from Carroll County, grew up showing cattle. John, too, began showing livestock at an early age. As John grew through 4-H, so too did the opportunities. At the urging of an adult mentor, he applied for 4-H County Council. “I really stepped out of my comfort zone,” John said. “It was really my rst real leadership experience.” John also served on the
2006-07 State 4-H Council. “Ever since then I have been trying to take advantage of positions like that any time I get the chance,” he said.
John also values the time spent on his 4-H livestock projects. “e responsibility and commitment that it took to fulll a project like that was something that has denitely shaped the educator that I am, shaped the athlete that I am and it’s something that will forever impact me.”
It is not dicult to draw a connection from the commitment it takes to follow through on a 4-H project to the commitment necessary to train for a marathon. “Marathon running is about personal accomplishment,” Tom said. “e average person can run a marathon if they are dedicated enough.” e two use running as a time to relax and unwind. ey know that their commitment to running and maintaining a healthy lifestyle positively impacts their lives. “I am denitely a better person because of my tness — because of my activity level — and I hold myself up to that standard,” John said.
John has already qualied to run in next year’s Boston Marathon, though he is unsure if he’ll make the trip again. Regardless, for the Venners, running is more than competing in marathons. It is an opportunity to bond as a family, grow as individuals and reap the benets of healthy living.

Alum of the Month!
Developing healthy habits allows young people to create balance in their lives and to understand rsthand the importance of a healthy lifestyle. In 4-H, youth develop healthy physical, social, and emotional behaviors and life skills. 4-H promotes healthy environments and, as a result, increases the ability of youth to make positive contributions to their families, schools and communities. Focus areas include nutrition, health and tness, stress management and more.
Running has become a lifestyle for the Venner family — an opportunity to bond as a family in a healthy way. 4-H programs help young people to identify ways to incorporate healthy living habits into their everyday lives.
Your dollars help to support 4-H healthy living programming throughout the state of Iowa. To make a contribution visit www.iowa4hfoundation.org/healthyliving.

How did you pay for college? Did scholarships help you save money? is year 72 Iowa 4-H college scholarships were awarded to past 4-H’ers valuing at over $70,000. Recipients were on hand to accept their awards on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the Annual Scholarship Reception held on the campus of Iowa State University. Scholarship applications were evaluated based on the applicant’s 4-H participation, academic accomplishments, nancial needs as well as other criteria established by the Iowa 4-H Foundation and the scholarship donors. A record number of 472 applications were submitted from 93 of Iowa’s 99 counties. Scholarship recipients represented 35 counties from across the state of Iowa with a wide variety of 4-H experiences.
“We are always inspired by our scholarship recipients and the impact they have had on their communities,” said Albert Grunenwald, Iowa 4-H Foundation executive director. “We are proud to work with many dierent donors to provide opportunities to invest in the futures of these students. We know
that these 4-H’ers will continue to make a dierence regardless of where they go to school or what they study.”
ree brand new scholarships were awarded for 2015. ese new scholarships are the Den Adel Family Farm 4-H Scholarship, the Robert E. and Harriet J. Smith 4-H Scholarship, and the Campbell-Determan Family 4-H Scholarship.
In addition to the traditional scholarship program, the Iowa 4-H Foundation partners with Hills Bank and Trust Company to provide a unique opportunity: the Hills Bank Leadership Program Grant Awards. Each year, Hills Bank and Trust contributes $20,000 to the Iowa 4-H Foundation to award a $1,000 scholarship to 20 high school juniors. ese students are selected to participate in the program, complete a year of leadership training and receive the scholarship upon their graduation.

30K For 30 YearsIowa 4-H’ers Reach Their 4-H’ers For 4-H Goal!By Kayla Hyett, Administrative Specialist
For 30 years, Iowa 4-H’ers have raised funds through the “4-H’ers for 4-H” campaign to support the 4-H program in Iowa. In celebration of this milestone, the 2015 campaign was dubbed “30K for 30 Years” with a goal to raise $30,030.30. anks to the commitment of 4-H’ers across the state, the campaign raised $30,213.30, exceeding the goal by $183! e 4-H’ers for 4-H campaign is the longest-running and the largest fundraising campaign for the Iowa 4-H program conducted by 4-H members for 4-H members.
State Council Finance Chairs Kaitlyn Varner and Alex Pickhinke presented the check to the Iowa 4-H Foundation at the State 4-H Conference on July 1 in Ames. e funds from the campaign will support state events such as the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, operation costs of the 2015-2016 state council, and fund nancial assistance programs that help 4-H families with state program fees and 4-H camp fees at the Iowa 4-H Center.
John-Paul Chaisson-Cardenas, state K-12 and 4-H youth development program leader, agreed to receive a pie in the face if the state council members reached their goal. During the nal ceremony at the 2015 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, Varner and Pickhinke had the privilege to pie Chaisson-Cardenas in front of all of the delegates, family members and guests.
“We are proud of Iowa’s 4-H’ers for recognizing the need to nancially support their 4-H youth program and for making the commitment to do so,” said Albert Grunenwald, executive director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. “eir work helps to ensure that the 4-H experience remains available for all Iowa youth.”

Note: These condensed financial statements are not complete and have been derived from the financial statements that were audited by Henkel & Associates, P.C., Certified Public Accountants. The complete financial statements including the auditors’ report are available on our website at iowa4hfoundtion.org or by contacting us at Iowa 4-H Foundation, Extension 4-H Youth Building, Iowa State Univeristy, Ames, Iowa 50011-3630 or (515) 294-1537.
“The Iowa 4-H Foundation provides financial resources for youth development through 4-H.” That’s our mission, and our financial report shows that we’re walking the talk. This past year, $1.2 million in donor contributions were used to support and enhance the Iowa 4-H experience for more than 100,000 youth statewide. That’s great news! As 4-H enrollments begin to increase, so does the challenge of maintaining a high level of program support and the value-added services of the 4-H Foundation. We can do it only with the generous and ongoing financial support of our donors. Therefore, let me encourage all of us to keep investing in our future by investing in 4-H. Let’s work together to make it better!
