MIDMAR

Friday 9 February, 2018 was met with many excited faces, anxious to get on to the bus and ‘hit’ the road to Durban. It took around 10 minutes for everyone to find a seat they were comfortable with; however, after the first hour on the road it really didn’t matter who sat where. Our birthday boy, Tristan Nel, was also serenaded with “Happy Birthday”. After making one extra stop due to Broc ‘really’ needing the bathroom, which in turn became our warcry, we arrived in Durban at our hotel. Shortly thereafter we were on our way to Gateway. Swimmers played in the pool while teachers bowled, and others played in the arcade and were amazed by the Optical Illusion Box. Saturday was spent at Ushaka, and after much pleading for ’30 minutes’ & ’30 minutes more, please’ it was concluded that this was the highlight of our tour. Friendships were made and others were strengthened on a superb day out. This was further confirmed by the 16 person strong train going down one of the waterslides. On Sunday our swimmers were more nervous than excited – Tarryn was overheard saying “I’m so going to drown!” while Thomas was worried about being kicked. The Midmar Mile became reality at 11h00 and 12h00 for the girls and boys respectively and it turned into a great swim for all. Dieter Buisinne swam the Team’s fastest time of 24 minutes and Tarryn swam the fastest time of 26 minutes for the girls. The bus trip home, while the teacher’s had wished for peace and quiet, was so full of energy and laughter that it even brought out some of the teacher’s singing talents! The ‘party’ lasted right up until we touched base at school at 8pm.

This was definitely a ‘No Ragrets’ Tour!

BLOOD DRIVE

HIGH SCHOOLS EXPO

In the last month, Fourways High has held two blood donation drives, one on the 13th of February for the Grade 10s and 12s, and another on the 23rd of February for the Grade 11s. The response from the pupils was incredibly enthusiastic and positive. The SANBS never had a moment’s break throughout both days, as the queue for potential donors never abated, and included pupils, staff and parents. In total, Fourways High donated 144 units of blood, potentially saving the lives of three people with each unit. We would like to thank the South African National Blood Service for their fantastic service both before and on both days, as well as the phenomenal support shown by the whole Fourways High family. Our next blood drive at the school will be on the 21st May and we encourage all eligible donors to considered donating on that day. If anyone would like to donate before then, there are blood donation centres at Pineslopes and Northgate. Thank you once again – our Fourways High donors are absolute superstars!! (Ms. K Winson)

The High Schools Expo was hosted by Bryandale Primary School on the 20th of February 2018. Special thanks to Mrs. de Bruyn; Mrs. Robertson and Mrs. Selesnick for their involvement and support. Many thanks to the Councillors and FHS Legends for their attendance and assistance.
