A Note from Fr. Quealy

Just a bad habit? Over my years as pastor I have noticed that some parishioners come to mass late and some leave very early. It is understandable that occasionally an unforeseen incident or uncontrollable circumstance may happen that would prevent you from being on time or necessitate leaving early, but doing so frequently, I believe, may be just a bad habit. Vatican Council II emphasizes that the holy sacrifice of the Mass begins at the processional hymn (when the priest is walking down the aisle to the altar) and ends with the recessional hymn (when the priest is walking down the aisle to the doors of the church). Can you imagine telling your boss that from now on you will be late for work and will leave early every day? Can you imagine attending a wedding and leaving before the bride and groom leave? Remember, when the Lord Jesus found his disciples asleep at the agony in the garden he said, “Can you not spend one hour with me?” Can we not?

God bless, Fr. Quealy
