MAY 12, 2019 FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
A VIEW FROM THE PEW
Fourth Sunday of Easter (Good Shepherd Sunday)
"Jesus said: ‘The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they
follow me.’" Christ Himself is the Good Shepherd, who knows each one of His sheep,
who gives His life for them and snatches them from the jaws of the marauding wolf.
He is the true shepherd who fulfills Ezechiel's prophecy foretelling for Israel a shep-
herd from the end of time who was to deliver his people.
Christ's sheepfold is the Church. In the Church He bestows on us His life in the Sacraments, His word in
the teaching that she gives us, all the riches of His grace to light up our way and uphold our steps as we go
forward to our heavenly home; through her He acts as the one Shepherd of our souls. Appointed to lead the
flock, Peter gave his life for those entrusted to his care, and ever since then the priestly ministry has assured
the continuous presence in the Church of Him who remains the true Shepherd of our souls.
May 12 Is Also Mother’s Day”
To Mother Mary and All Mothers
On this day when we remember with gratitude Mother Mary and All Mothers, we also honor and praise the
Presence of God as we recall that our mothers represent our living, loving and ever-present God. How blest
are we to have them and all the women who have made a significant difference in our lives! All glory,
honor, praise and thanks to You, Creating Father, Redeeming Son, and Sanctifying Spirit.
May the faith-filled stewardship of Mary, our Mother, be the guide and model for all mothers to follow for
a faith-filled family life.
May 12 is the 56th Anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, which was instituted by Pope
Paul VI during the Second Vatican Council. The entire church, including lay people, are charged with
the work of fostering priestly and religious vocations. Please pray that young people, especially those
from our Parish, will be open to God’s call in their lives! Show your commitment to praying for
vocations by enrolling at invisiblemonastery.com.

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
Many faith communities see stewardship as simply collecting money. Our Catholic vision of stewardship
has, as one component, the Stewardship of Treasure. It is not about just collecting money though; it is about
sharing the gifts that God has given each of us. The financial needs of the Parish have very little to do with
our individual practice of stewardship. Stewardship is about our relationship with God. It is about how we
live our lives as Disciples of Christ. Stewardship is a spiritual way of Christian living.
Prayer For A Stewardship Parish
Dear Heavenly Father, my Parish is composed of people like me; I help make it what it is.
It will be friendly, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work,
if I work. It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver. It will
bring other people into its worship and fellowship, if I invite and bring them. It will be a
Parish of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, and a Parish with a noble spirit, if I,
who make it what it is, am filled with these same things. Therefore, with Your help, O God,
I shall dedicate myself to the task of being all things that I want my Parish to be. Amen!
