MASSES FOR THE WEEK
On this final Sunday of Advent our scriptures
focus on the historical birth of Jesus, who is son
of David and Son of God, child and king, Jesus
and Emmanuel.
Isaiah the prophet begs Ahaz to ask for a sign,
to allow God to offer him reassurance of
the survival of the Davidic dynasty. The king
hypocritically refuses to “tempt the LORD” in that
way (Isaiah 7:12), but the prophet foretells the
birth of a son, an heir to the throne, who will
prove the Lord’s enduring protection of God’s
chosen lineage on the throne of David.
The child will be called Emmanuel.
Matthew’s reference to this history in his
description of the birth of Jesus highlights
the contrast between the faithless refusal
of trust shown by Ahaz, and the complete trust
in God shown by Mary and Joseph in bringing
about the birth of Jesus Christ.
“A man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit” (Acts 6:5): thus Luke introduces Stephen, first of seven deacons chosen by the community for its ministry of charity, first to lay down his life in witness to Christ. As the church’s first martyr, Stephen’s life and death mirror the preaching and passion of Jesus, “the faithful witness” (Greek, martyr) (Revelation 1:5). Like Jesus, Stephen works “great signs and wonders among the people” (Acts 6:8). Like Jesus, when falsely accused, Stephen’s face radiates angelic serenity (Acts 6:15), though his tongue, like Jesus’, is a two-edged sword. As the dying Jesus forgave his executioners, even making excuses for them, then commended his spirit into his Father’s hands (Luke 23:34, 46), so Stephen intercedes for his murderers and begs Jesus to receive his spirit (Acts 7:60, 59). How fruitful both passions! The penitent thief inherits Paradise; Saul, who consented to Stephen’s killing, is transformed into the fearless preacher Paul. Thus Stephen challenges us to bear witness not in words only, but by Christ-like forgiveness toward all.

LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR
ST. MONICA PARISH | DECEMBER 25 | 8
Dear friends,
Today is a great anniversary that we, as human
beings, celebrate. Today is the day when we
commemorate the Incarnation. Today we
celebrate Jesus’ birthday. We observe the Incarnation
in different ways than it was in the beginning of
Christianity. Nevertheless, we celebrate exactly the
same mysterium fidei, the mystery of faith. After four
weeks of preparation, we are ready to accept Baby J
esus into our hearts and households. The Evangelist, John,
in his “prologue”, introduces Jesus as the Logos which means
the Word. The Word became flesh. Even though the world enjoys
Christmas, it tries to see and enjoy that holy day without God.
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, we were chosen at the day
of our baptism to promote life with God. The Infant Jesus brings
joy and hope to the world. Unfortunately, the surrounding reality
does not always acknowledge the Creator being present
among us. We as his disciples give testimony about the glory of
God through the many traditions that we have developed over
the centuries. Therefore, no matter where we are from or what
language we speak, we are a Christian family, who turn our
attention to Bethlehem. Along with Mary and Joseph we
welcome our Savior.
Let the celebration of the Incarnation of the Word of God be the
celebration of love and peace in our households and in the entire
world.
MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIENDS!

ŚPIEWNIK BOŻE NARODZENIE
Bracia, patrzcie jeno!
Rzućmy budy, warty, stada;
niechaj nimi Pan Bóg włada!
A my do Betlejem, a my do Betlejem! Do Betlejem!
Patrzcie jak tam gwiazda światłem sowim miga!
Pewnie dla uczczenia Pana swego ściga!
Krokiem śmiałym i wesołym
śpieszmy i u derzmy czołem!
przed Panem w Betlejem, przed Panem w Betlejem!
Cicha noc, święta noc,
Pokój niesie ludziom wszem,
a u żłóbka Matka Święta
Czuwa sama uśmiechnięta
Nad dzieciątka snem, nad dzieciątka snem.
Cicha noc, święta noc, Pastuszkowie od swych trzód
Biegną wielce zadziwieni za anielskim głosem pieni
Gdzie się spełnił cud, gdzie się spełnił cud.
Cicha noc, święta noc, narodzony Boży Syn
Pan Wielkiego majestatu Niesie dziś całemu światu
Odkupienie win, odkupienie win.
Lulajże Jezuniu, moja perełko
lulaj ulubione me pieścidełko.
Zamknijże znużone płaczem powieczki,
utulże zemdlone łkaniem usteczki.
Lulajże piękniuchny nasz Aniołeczku,
lulajże wdzięczniuchny świata Kwiateczku.
Mizerna cicha, stajenka licha
pełna niebieskiej chwały;
oto leżący, przed nami śpiący w promieniach Jezus mały
Przed Nim anieli w locie stanęli i pochyleni klęczą
z włosy złotymi, skrzydły białymi
pod malowaną tęczą.
Wielkoe zdziwienie, wszelkie stworzenie,
cały świat orzeźwiony!
Mądrość mądrości, światłość światłości
Bóg Człowiek tu wcielony!
Dzisiaj w Betlejem, dzisiaj w Betlejem
Wesoła nowina
Że Panna czysta, że Panna czysta
Porodziła Syna
Choć w stajeneczce, choć w stajeneczce
Panna Syna rodzi.
Przecież On wkrótce, przecież On wkrótce
ludzi oswobodzi!
I Trzej królowie, i trzej królowie
Od wschodu przybyli
I dary Panu, i dary Panu
Kosztowne złożyli
Z narodzenia Pana dzień dziś wesoły,
Wyśpiewują chwałę Bogu żywioły!
Radość ludzi wszędy słynie,
Anioł budzi przy dolinie
Pasterzy, co paśli pod borem woły!
Wypada wśród nocy ogień z obłoku!
Dumają pasterze przy tym widoku.
Każdy pyta, co się dzieje,
Czy nie świta, czy nie dnieje,
Skąd ta łuna bije, tak miła oku?
Ale gdy anielskie głosy słyszeli,
Zaraz do Betlejem prosto bieżeli.
Tam witali w żłobie Pana,
Poklękali na kolana
I oddali dary, co z sobą wzięli.
Do szopy, hej pasterze, do szopy bo tam cud
Syn Boży w żłobie leży by zbawić ludzki ród.
On Ojcu równy w Bóstwie, opuszcza niebo swe.
A rodzi się w ubóstwie i cierpi wszystko złe.

ST. MONICA PARISH | DECEMBER 25 | 12
Wśód nocnej ciszy głos się rozchodzi,
wstańcie pasterze, Bóg się wam rodzi!
Czym prędzej się wybierajcie,
do Betlejem popieszajcie—przywitać Pana.
Poszli, znaleźli Dzieciątko w żłobie,
z Wszystkimi znaki, damymi sobie.
Jako Bogu cześć Mu dali,
A witając zawołali z wielkiej radości:
Ach, witaj, Zbawco, z dawna żądany,
Tyle tysięcy lat wyglądany.
Na Ciebie króle, prorocy,
czekali, a Tyś tej nocy nam się objawił.
I my czekamy na Ciebie, Pana,
Wiecznego Boga bez rodzica,
by nas z piekła wybawił, a w niebieskich postawił,
Pałacach...
Przybieżeli do Betlejem pasterze,
Grając skocznie Dziciąteczku na lirze. Chwała...
Oddawali swe ukłony w pokorze,
Tobie z serca ochotnego, o Boże. Chwała...
Anioł Pański sam ogłosił te dziwy,
których oni nie słyszeli, jak żywi. Chwała...
Dziwili sie napowietrznej muzyce,
i myśleli: Co to będzie za Dziecię? Chwała...
Poznali Go Mesyjaszem być prawym,
narodzonym dzisiaj Królem łaskawym. Chwała....
Gdy śliczna Panna Syna kołysała,
Z wielkim weselem tak jemu śpiewała:
Li-li-li-li-laj - Moje Dzieciąteczko,
Li-li-li-li-laj - Śliczne Paniąteczko.
Wszystko stworzenie śpiewaj Panu swemu,
Pomóż radości wszelkiej sercu memu.
Li-li-li-li-laj - wielki Królewiczu
Li-li-li-li-laj - Niebieski Dziedzicu.
Mówią do pasterzy, którzy trzód swych strzegli.
Aby do Betlejem, czym prędzej pobiegli.
Bo się narodził Zbawiciel, wszego świata odkupiciel.
O niebieskie duchy i posłowie nieba.
Powiedzcież wyraźniej co nam czynić trzeba:
Bo my nic nie pojmujemy, ledo od strachu żyjemy.
Idźcież do Betlejem, gdzie Dziecię zrodzone,
W pieluszki powite, w żlobie położone:
Oddajcie Mu pokłon boski, On osłodzi wasze troski.
Bóg się rodzi, moc truchleje, Pan niebiosów obnażony
Ogień krzepnie, blask ciemnieje, ma granice nieskończony.
Niemało cierpiał nie mało. Żeśmy byli winni sami, a Słowo...
Cóż masz niebo nad ziemiany? Bóg porzucił szczęście swoje!
Wszedł między lud ukochany, dzieląc z nim trudy i znoje
Niemało cierpiał, niemało, żeśmy byli winni sami, a Słowo...
Podnieś rękę, Boże dziecie, błogosław ojczyzną miłą,
w dobrych radach, w dobrym bycie, wspieraj jej siłę Swą siłą
Dom nasz i majętność całą i wszystkie wioski z miastami,
a Słowo...
