Fourth Sunday of Advent (B) Dec. 24, 2017

Reading I: 2 Samuel 7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a,16 Responsorial Psalm 89:2-3,4-5,27-29 Reading II: Romans 16:25-27 Gospel: Luke 1:26-38

Theme: “And the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over

the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end” (Gospel).

A blessed Christmas! Feliz Navidad, Wesolych Swiat Bozego Narodzenia, Froehliche Weihnachten, Joyeux Noël, Buone Feste Natalizie, Maligayang Pasko, Kung His Hsin Nien bing Chu Shen Tan, and Chuc Mung Giang Sinh! In faith and in God’s time, may all your prayers and wishes will come true. Let us put our trust in God who does the impossible and works miracles.

Through the obedience and humble acceptance of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we are saved. The redemption of humanity went through the process of faithfulness to the mission and cooperation of those sent by God. Angel Gabriel (meaning strong man of God) was sent to announce Mary’s bearing of the Savior through the Holy Spirit. And Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word" (Luke 1:38). The circumstances of the Lord’s birth did not come easy but just like any life’s event was surrounded by human and social dilemmas and difficulties. Mary asked the angel, ‘How can this happen, since I have not had relations with a man’”(Luke 1:34)? Joseph at first wanted to divorce Mary until an angel the angel intervened. "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:20).

God’s will is fulfilled in the obedience of His messengers and cooperation of those who are chosen to fulfill it. Without obedience, humanity will still be under the spell of sin. Without obedience, Gabriel could have announced something else. Without cooperation, Joseph would have chosen to be away from Mary’s life and leaving Jesus without an earthly father. Without cooperation, Mary could have chosen to say No outright. Because they obeyed God and followed their call, the rest is HIS STORY, A Merry Christmas!

I invite all parishioners to celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, our Parish Feast Day on January 3, 2018. There will be masses 8 am and 6:30 pm. In the Name of Jesus, may God bless and heal every soul and family in our Parish.

We wish you and your family

Campaign prayer: Heavenly Father, source of all that is good, on Pentecost you sent the Holy Spirit to give your Church the courage to grow. Today, may that same Spirit lead our archdiocesan capital campaign, On the Way-¡Ándale! to foster your kingdom. Keep us mindful that we are stewards of your gifts, making good use of all that you give us. Motivate us to give generously of our resources that we may bear fruit pleasing to you and be of true service to our brothers and sisters. Give us vision, energy and courage to allow your Spirit to breathe new life into our community as we work together in your name. We ask this in the name of Jesus, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen
