Daily5WeconinutedworkinginourguidedreadinggroupsandatDaily5stations.Ourbookgroupsaregoinggreatandwearelearninghowtobeindpendentandfocusedwhennotworkingwiththeteacher.Someofthereadingcomprehensionskillswehavebeenworkingonaresummarizing(somebody,wanted,but,sothen)andwritingitinparagraphform,characertraits,usingevidencetosupportanswers,andusingcontextcluestohelpunderstandvocabulary.STARTINGNEXTWEEK,TherewillbeaspellingtesteachFridayonthewordpatternfromtheweek.Studentswilleitherhave5,10,or15wordsfortheweektostudy.MathContinuinginthisweek’sFridayPost,youwillgetapreviewofthemathlessonstocomeforthefollowingweek(insteadofareviewofthecontentlearned).ThiswayyoucanusethisFridayPostasatoolthisupcomingweektosupportyourchildwiththeirmath,shouldyouneeditasareference.Wewillstarttheweeklearningthedifferencesbetweendifferentkindsofquadrilateralsandtrianglesbasedontheirrules.Wewillfocusonthetermsparallel,perpendicular,andangle.
Then,laterintheweek,wewillbeginexploringangles.Studentswilluse90degreesasabasistodetermineifanangleisobtuse(greaterthan90degrees)oracute(lessthan90degrees).Fromtherestudentswillusepolygonstodeterminetheprecisenumberofdegrees.
Forexample,ifstudentscanseethat3ofthesamepolygoncanmakea90degreeangle,theneachofthosepolygonsarea30degreeangle.Usingthatinformation,studentscanusethatsmallerpolygontomeasureanddeducethesizeofagivenangle.
Inthispicture,studentscanseethattwoofthesametrianglecanmakea90degreeangle,sothosetwosmallerangleseachmustbe45degreesinordertoreach90.
SocialStudiesNowthatwe’velearnedhowtoparaphraseandresearchthe4aspectsofNativeAmericanlife,eachstudentpickedanaspecttobecomeanexpertin.Thentheclassmadetheirowngroupsof4-5peoplewhothenchosewhichtribetoresearch.The5tribesarethe,theChumashtribeoftheSouthernCoast,thePomoTribeoftheNorthernCoast,theCahuillatribeoftheDesert,theShastatribeofthemountains,andtheYokuttribeoftheValley.Theyresearchedeachtribewiththelensoftheiraspect.Wehadafishbowldiscussiontosharetheinformationtheyfound.Nextweek,wewilllearnhowtomakescriptsTheDrivingQuestion:Ashistorians,howcanweuseperformancetotellaboutthedailylifeofCaliforniaNativeAmericans?WritingContinuinginthisweek’sFridayPost,youwillgetapreviewofthewritinglessonstocomeforthefollowingweek(insteadofareviewofthecontentlearned).ThiswayyoucanusethisFridayPostasatoolthisupcomingweektosupportyourchildwiththeirwriting,shouldyouneeditasareferenceWewillspendthewholeweekworkingfastandfuriouslytocompleteourfirstessays!Wewillcreatebodyparagraphsusingallthelistsandanecdotes.Then,we’llcreateengagingintroductionsandconclusionstobeginandendouressays!We’llstartworkingonapersuasiveessaytheweekafter.Belowareanexampleofathesis,3reasons,one
