7. The text, as is usual for this version of C~n.akya's compendia, isdivided into 17 a d h y d y a s . Each a d h y d y a ends: i t i - p r a t h a m o , d v i t f y o etc.' d h y a y a t : .

The three introductory stanzas begin with the words: p r an . a m y a -~ ira sd -v i~ n . u rh . . . . a d h ~ t y e d a r i ~ - t a t h d -~ a s t ra m . . . . and tad-ahath-sari~pra-v a k . s y a m i . . . ~ and are the characteristic introductory stanzas of theV.rddha-C~.nakya, t e x t u s o r n a t i o r version.

The text is identical with the editions of the C~.nakya-niti-darpa.na(in particular with gri-C~n.akyanitidalpan.a.h prakg~aka.h; Bh~rgavapustak~laya, ggyaghftt., Bangras; br~fica-kacad.igali, Ban~ras) subject tothe two following changes: stanza II.14 ( k d n t d v i y o g a . h ) i s missings andstanza XVII. 16 (p a r o p a k a ra n . a ~iT ) is put before stanza XVII. 15 ( y a d i r d m d ) .This type of change in the order of stanzas is not unusual to this version.

10. The MS is very beautiful and clean, with very few and unimportantvariants, but since the number of MSs and editions of this particularversion of Cgn.akya's compendia is large, it is of little interest to studentsof C~n.akya. II

11. MS. Cod. Or 8859; UB/123 contains the text of the Laghu-Cg.nakya as well as the text of the V.rddha-Can.akya, t e x t u s s i m p l i c i o r .Both texts are quite wellknown but only very few editions exist of theLaghu-C~.nakya version, and even fewer of the V.rddha-Cgn.akya, t e x t u ss i m p l i c i o r version.

12. The MS has 39 pages, plus the title page; size 16 by 28 era; ordinarywhite paper; written in black ink in d e r a n d g a r f ; 5 to 6 lines per page;dated s a r h v a t 1975 (1917 A.D.).
