Four pressure-sensitive products added to existing range of self-adhesive foam tapes Amo Adhesive Tapes, UK, has added four products to its range of self-adhesive foam tapes. Amofoam L51 is a low-density polyurethane foam coated with an aggressive rubber-based pressure- sensitive adhesive. Of open foam construction, which gives good compression, the tape may be used for cushioning and sound-absorbing applications. White or grey in colour, the tape is available in thicknesses from 1.5 to 3.2 mm and in a range of widths from 6 mm to 900 mm. Amofoam L53 comprises a dimensionally-stable, closed-cell rubber foam with an aggressive synthetic pressure-sensitive perma- nent adhesive for use in cushioning and sealing applications. Available in a standard range of thicknesses from 1.5 to 6 mm, the grey tape comes in widths from 6 mm to 50 mm. Amofoam L54 is a black neo- prene closed-cell foam coated with a synthetic pressure-sensitive adhesive offering conformability and solvent resistance. Intended for use as a cushion to protect compo- nents or as a seal, the tape can also be used as a gasket to create a vapour barrier. It is available in thicknesses of 1.5 to 3 mm and widths of 6 to 50 mm. Arnofoam L55 has been designed to incorporate good weathering properties. Made from expanded closed-cell ethylene pro- pylene diene monomer coated with a synthetic pressure-sensitive adhesive, the tape is intended for cushioning and sealing in outdoor applications. It is available in a range of thicknesses from 1.5 to 6 mm and widths of 6 mm to 50 mm. In all the tapes the foam has been coated directly with the adhesive to prevent delamination. Entries invited for self-adhesive competition Now in its eleventh year, the Fasson Self-Adhesive Awards com- petition is open to all users, prin- ters and converters of self-adhesive materials in the British Isles. Entries may be produced on self-adhesive materials of any brand or manufac- ture and prizes will be awarded in eight categories relating to different labelling, vehicle advertising and marking, or promotional print applications, and two categories for genuinely innovative industrial or graphic applications. The competi- tion will be judged by a panel of experts totally independent of any involvement with Fasson. Fasson suggests that the com- petition provides the only awards established platform on which the creative and technical skills of those involved with self-adhesive materials can be demonstrated, and rewarded. Cash prizes of £4000 will be shared among the winners and all participants will qualify to win the Fasson Challenge Trophy and a cash prize of £1000 awarded to the entry judged to show overall the most creative use of self- adhesive materials. To be marketed under the brandname FasVinyl, the new materials are described by the com- pany as representing the successful marriage of the advanced formula- tion and coating techniques conventionally employed to create FasRoll roll label and FasCal prom- otional film products. Cadmium-free, soft vinyl film, FasVinyl facematerials are available in three different finishes m gloss white, matt white and clear. Adhesives used are either rubber- based $277 offering high tack and permanent adhesion within a broad band of temperatures; or UVR 145 on clear FasVinyl, a removable acrylic with good clarity and uv resistance. The company states that this type of adhesive will adhere at temperatures as low as --70°C without becoming brittle, and as high as 260°C without dry- ing out. Chemically inert, they offer long service life with good resis- tance to weathering and oxidation. The low surface energy possessed by silicones enables silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives to adhere to traditionally 'difficult' sub- strates such as Teflon, Kapton, silicone-coated fabrics and paper, and silicone rubber. In addition, due to their dielectric properties. silicone pressure-sensitives may be used for electrical tapes. The use of these adhesives is being extended into such areas as contact adhesives for silicone rubber-based roofing systems, and bonding silicone rubber gaskets to metal.
