The Founding of the Latin Race...“Aeneas, prince of Troy, son of Venus and Anchises,
escaped the fall of that city bearing the Penates (household Gods) of his house on his back. Along with other fugitives, he went into exile. He sailed from Troy in western Anatolia, first to Macedonia on the Grecian peninsula, then to Sicily, the island south of Italy, and thence to the territory of Laurentum, on the Italian mainland. In the course of their wanderings, Aeneas and his men had lost everything they had, except for their ships and swords; once ashore in Laurentum, they began to scour the countryside for supplies.”
