Recommendations of the Understanding and Supporting Students with Dyslexia Advisory Group

Provide increased and focused professional development

Revise assessment approaches to better meet the needs of students through screening and diagnostic assessments identifying students with dyslexia and dyslexic tendencies.

Prioritize instructional materials and methods (core instruction and intervention) aligned to current neuroscience and how we can best support students with dyslexia or demonstrating dyslexia tendencies.

Identify specific staff to support students, staff and families with what is best for students to learn and access learning.

reading instruction, and the absence of this

empirical research in a balanced literacy

program vs. a structured literacy program.

and neuroscience of learning reading and

writing and the need for alignment with

handwriting instruction.
