Foundation FocusRenew. Reclaim. Rebuild. renew our commitment to patients.Help patients reclaim their independence.Give patients the tools to rebuild their lives.

For the last 15 years, our residents have come to Norman Regional’s Rehabilitation Hospital with challenges that have changed the course of their lives. Whether they suffered a traumatic injury from a car accident or experienced a severe stroke, our patients all have one goal in common: to recover basic skills that give them great joy, such as holding their children, taking a walk outside or talking with a friend.

With a $1.4 million grant from the Norman Regional Health Foundation, this multi-faceted project included improvements to every area of our Rehabilitation Services program – Norman Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, Norman Regional Physical Performance Center, and Moore Medical Center Physical Rehabilitation Services.

Renovations completely modernized the Rehabilitation Hospital at Norman Regional and brought new and advanced therapies to help in our patients’ recovery.

Our expanded pediatric therapy program now includes a new gym and new therapy equipment elevating the care we provide to our littlest patients.

With new and advanced therapies, including the latest in acute rehabilitation medicine and technology, our patients no longer have to travel outside our community to receive the therapy they need.

Independence Park, an outdoor therapy park, has helped our patients overcome the challenges they will face outside their home when the leave our hospital. The course, designed by our team of physical therapists, helps patients navigate various surfaces and barriers they will encounter after rehabilitation.

We want to thank the many Foundation donors who helped to make this a reality for our patients. $500,000 - Norman Regional Health System; $250,000 - Norman Regional Auxiliary, Norman Regional Health Foundation; $50,000 - Anonymous, Norman Physician Hospital Organization, LLC, TEAMHealth Emergency Medicine; $25,000 - Oklahoma Sports and Orthopedics Institute $10,000 - Arvest Bank, BancFirst, Carol and Scott Bauman, Amy and Courtney Brackin, INSURICA – Agar, Ford, Jarmon & Muldrow, Norman Anesthesia Providers, Margaret and Donald Pape, Republic Bank & Trust, Sports Talk/KREF, Dr. Jeffrey M. and Twila Waltner; $5,000 - Anonymous, Altus A. La Dolce VitaThe Sweet Life…an Italian inspired theme along with gourmet dining and dancing entertained more than 250 guests at the 8th annual Ambassador Ball in February. The gala, hosted by the Norman Regional Health Foundation, provides support to further the life-saving mission of the Norman Regional Health System and Foundation initiatives.

The proceeds from this year’s Ball, chaired by Lynn Weber, will benefit the Foundation’s Art for Healing project: Sanctuary. Sanctuary is a public art piece that will grace the entrance to Norman Regional Moore, scheduled to open in spring 2016.

Board President Randy Laffoon welcomed guests to the event held at the University of Oklahoma Memorial Union and Vice Chair Courtney Brackin introduced Foundation Executive Director Erin Barnhart. Brower Hatcher and Marly Rogers, the artist and assistant, shared the concept behind the Sanctuary art piece.

The event committee was made up of several hard working individuals: Darlene Bowline, Justin Covey, Diane Kittinger, Lori Lindsey, Margaret Pape, and Susan Gladhill.

After enjoying a five-course gourmet meal the guests were treated to the music of Think Big Party Band.

These words describe the NRHF Board of Directors. These generous people serve unique and critical roles that support our impact on Norman Regional Health System. This group, composed of diverse individuals with a wide range of experiences and skill sets, lend their expertise in leading change.

Each director is slated to only serve for a period of time and we must say goodbye to some amazing people for now.

SanctuaryA place for healing and hope.

On May 20, 2013, one of nature’s most powerful storms unleashed its wrath on our community. An EF-5 tornado tore its way through miles of homes, schools and businesses, leaving complete destruction in its wake. Moore Medical Center, one of Norman Regional Health System’s hospitals, took a direct hit. Our staff on duty courageously put their lives at risk to save the lives of our patients, families and visitors.

As a result of their courage, we lost no one at our hospital that day. Our staff emerged from the rubble and immediately began to care for the wounded. We knew that our role as the trusted healthcare provider was always important, but on that day and in so many ways, our role became so much more evident and our commitment to rebuild so much more important.

On May 20, 2014, Norman Regional Health System broke ground on a new $29 million facility and made good on our promise to return to the Moore community. Now, we stand together. The rebuilding of the medical center will be a powerful symbol of the Moore community’s endurance in the wake of devastation.

To honor the courage and caring that took place on May 20, 2013 and to inspire hope and healing for the future, an inspirational public art piece, Sanctuary, has been selected. The commissioned art will serve as an iconic entry point for the new healthcare facility. Art helps restore people’s spirit after a disaster and knits ravaged communities back together. To the outside world that is rooting for our recovery, it will send the message that we are stronger now than ever before.

The piece was designed as a three-dimensional configuration of the Norman Regional Health System logo, which symbolized the links between physicians, staff, patients and community. With more than 2,400 crystal connectors, Sanctuary’s prismatic light will induce feelings of hope and healing for those entering Norman Regional Moore. The pyramid can be entered through four triangular openings. Once enveloped in the luminous crystal chamber, one experiences a magical effect, shimmering rainbow prisms reflected on the floor, on the structure and on oneself.

Sanctuary was created by Brower Hatcher and Mid-Ocean Studios of Providence, RI. Hatcher has received three National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships and a Guggenheim Fellowship.

To make a gift toward this symbol of hope and healing, please contact the Norman Regional Health Foundation at 405/307-1077 or visit www.NRHFoundation.org/give.

This initiative is a wonderful way for you to aid our patients in their healing, their families in their coping, and our staff in their critical work. Your support will be an investment in the emotional healing of our community.
