Adam Wolfenson Co-Managing Partner, Encourage Capital

Adam Wolfensohn is Co-Managing Partner of Encourage Capital, an asset management company formed by the recent merger of Wolfensohn Fund Management and EKO Asset Management. A unique partnership of disciplined investors and creative problem-solvers, the new firm is already working with major asset owners to deploy investment capital to solve problems like global ecosystem decline, climate change, and bringing financial services to the world’s poor. Previously, Adam was Managing Director at Wolfensohn Fund Management and also managed the Wolfensohn family office cleantech and environmental markets strategies.

From 2003 to 2006, he produced the climate change documentary, “Everything’s Cool,” that debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007. From 2002 to 2003, he worked with Conservation International to create a market for carbon credits from avoided deforestation projects.

Prior to 2002, Adam composed music for numerous films, television commercials and theatre productions as founder and CEO of “Red Ramona,” an award winning music and sound design studio in New York City. He is a Trustee of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Yad Hanadiv, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors and Bang on a Can. He is a member of the investment committee of Rockefeller Brothers Fund and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Adam earned a B.A. from Princeton University and an M.E.M. from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies

Ajay Kumar Kapur Deputy Managing Director, SIDBI

Mr. Ajay Kumar Kapur has been Deputy Managing Director at Small Industries Development Bank of India since January 2016. Mr. Kapur served as Head of Strategic Planning, Budgeting & BPR Vertical at Small Industries Development Bank of India. Mr. Kapur served as the Chief General Manager at Small Industries Development Bank of India. Previously, he was the Chief Executive Officer at SIDBI Venture Capital Limited.

Anuja Master Bose Philanthropy strategy advisor, Aspire Circle

Anuja Master Bose has led and held senior roles at large philanthropies and social enterprises in India and the US. She has spent the last nine years in India, working with the philanthropies of Dr. Desh Bandhu Gupta, Ramalingu Raju, SKS, and the Templeton Foundation. Prior, Anuja was Managing Director of the Fisher Fund, one of the largest education foundations in the US. Anuja began her career as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch and gained valuable start-up experience at MovieFone, a media and entertainment company that went public. Anuja has a BA from the University of Chicago and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Arun Maira Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh

Arun is one of those rare people who have held leadership positions in both, the private as well as the public sector, bringing a unique perspective on how the two can work together to foster growth for India. He has led three rounds of participative and comprehensive scenario building for the future of India: in 1999 (with the Confederation of Indian Industry), 2005 (with the World Economic Forum), and 2011 (with the Planning Commission). In his career spanning five decades, Arun has led several organisations, including the Boston Consulting Group in India. In the early part of his career, he spent 25 years in the Tata Group at various important positions. He was also a member of the Board of Tata Motors (then called TELCO). After leaving the Tatas, Arun joined Arthur D Little Inc (ADL), the international management consultancy, in the US, where he advised companies across sectors and geographies on their growth strategies and handling transformational change.

Presently, Arun Maira is Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Chairman of HelpAge International, a Member of the Advisory Board of the Global Economic Symposium, Chairman of the Foundation of MSME Clusters, and President of the Consumer Unity and Trust Society of India. With his vast experience and expertise, Arun is indeed a thought leader. He is invited to speak at various forums and has written several books that capture his insights.

Brooks Preston Head of Investment funds, OPIC

Brooks Preston is Head of Investment Funds of OPIC’s Investment Funds Department (IFD), sits on OPIC’s Investment Committee. Executive Committee and Chairs the Investment Funds Evaluation Committee. Previously, Brooks was Managing Partner of VGF Emerging Markets I, L.P. and a member of its Investment Committee. Prior to creating VGF EM, Brooks worked in emerging markets as a Principal at Wolfensohn & Company, an emerging market private equity fund, and as a senior manager at BP plc in the downstream oil businesses and in alternative energy. He has degrees from Dartmouth College and the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Claudia Schmerler Head of Division, KfW

Claudia heads the South Asia division for private and financial sector development at KfW Development Bank, a member of the German KfW Group. As a promotional bank, KfW supports change and encourages forward-looking ideas – in Germany, Europe and in more than 100 developing and transition countries throughout the world. Claudia has been working for KfW Development Bank in different roles for the past 10 years. Her focus is on financial systems development in Asia as well as global fund initiatives. She also advised the OECD Development Assistance Committee and its Secretariat on how to modernise the measurement of international development finance to better reflect financial instruments such as equity investments or guarantees which built on market principles to attract more funding for sustainable development. Claudia acts as a nominee director on boards of different KfW investee companies. Before joining KfW, she worked in rural and economic development projects in Cambodia and Indonesia. Claudia holds a MBA from the University of Leipzig.

Debasish Mitter Country Director, Michael & Susan Dell Foundation

Debasish leads the foundation’s strategy and operations in India for education, employability skills, family economic stability, and health. In his role, Debasish helps to manage and develop the India-based portfolio to improve learning levels in schools serving underprivileged children; to catalyze sustainable and large-scale models that help youth gain meaningful employment; to support early-stage, market-based enterprises providing financial services to urban poor families; and to strengthen government’s school-based health programs that improve outcomes in the lives of urban poor children.

Prior to joining the foundation, he spent 13 years with American Express in various leadership positions in their Delhi, Miami and New York offices. During his career with American Express, he led a variety of operational, transaction-related, finance and strategic responsibilities. Prior to that, Debasish spent a number of years with Dowell Schlumberger, an oilfield services leader, in senior finance roles in the Middle East and the Far East. Debasish is a chartered accountant.

Geeta Goel Director, Mission Investing at Michael & Susan Dell Foundation

Geeta is responsible for the leading the foundation’s global Mission Investing function. A suite of funding tools have been adopted to further our mission in a measurable and sustainable manner, including equity investments, loans, recoverable grants, and debentures and convertible notes. In addition, the foundation has also supported four early-stage funds and incubators in India and the US to accelerate the funding of mission aligned companies in the areas of education and skill training. Prior to this role, Geeta led the foundation’s Family Economic Stability initiative. She has represented the foundation on several investee boards, including that of Janalakshmi, Ujjivan, Micro Housing Finance Corporation and Swadhaar. Before joining the foundation, Geeta spent more than 12 years with the corporate finance group of Pricewaterhouse Coopers in India, advising large Indian and multinational clients on joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, business plans, and valuations. She is an alumni of the Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad) and Lady Shri Ram College (Delhi).

Graham Macmillan Senior Program Officer, Ford Foundation

Graham serves as Senior Program Officer for Impact Investing at the Ford Foundation. In this role, he is responsible for developing the team’s grant-making strategy and coordinating it closely with our program-related investment. Prior to joining Ford, Graham was Director of Corporate Citizenship Partnerships at Citigroup. As director, Graham worked with Citi’s myriad businesses to drive economic and social impact with clients and other key stakeholders while contributing to Citi’s broader citizenship reporting requirements. He has also served as Senior Program Officer for Financial Inclusion at the Citi Foundation, where he managed the foundation’s international grant making in nearly 90 countries, while also leading investments in innovation, thought leadership, and research. Initially at Citi, Graham managed the Microfinance and Enterprise Development portfolios. Prior to joining Citi, Graham was senior director of VisionSpring, a leading social enterprise selling consumer products to promote economic development. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Aspen Network for Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) and was a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Graham received his BA from Colby College, MSc from NYU Wagner, and MBA through a joint program at NYU Stern, London School of Economics, and HEC Paris School of Management.

Jaap Reinking Director Private Equity, FMO, The Netherlands Development Finance Company

Jaap Reinking is the Director of the Private Equity department within FMO, since June 2015.

Before taking this responsibility Jaap Reinking has been Director of the Financial Institutions department between January 1st, 2014 and May 2015. Prior to the Financial Institution department he headed the Agribusiness & Diverse Sectors department of FMO from January 2009 to December 2013.

Before Jaap was appointed as Director of Agribusiness & Diverse Sectors, he worked at FMO in a variety of positions including Senior Credit Analyst, (Senior) Investment Officer, Manager Business Development for Latin America and the Caribbean, Chairman of the FinPre commission and Manager for new clients in Asia. Within FMO he was member of the Asset and Liability Committee, the Investment Review Committee and Investment Committee as a voting member. He has gained broad experience in investing in emerging markets by executing deals himself, analyzing companies, financial institutions and projects in diverse sectors and maintaining relationships.

Prior to FMO, Jaap worked at Banque de Suez Nederland N.V. (credit risk management, account manager and treasury department), at Koninklijke Borsumij Wehry N.V., responsible for the implementation of the internal treasury department and as a Credit Risk Analyst at Deutsche Bank de Bary N.V, where he gained experience in analyzing companies and complex financial transactions.

Jaap has attended various financial, management and leadership development, ESG, and Corporate Governance courses/trainings. Jaap Reinking is married and has three children.

Jasjit Mangat Partner, LGT Impact Ventures

Mr. Mangat is a global partner at LGT Impact Ventures, the impact investment arm of LGT Bank, the world’s largest private asset manager. Jasjit is based in New Delhi, and combines global experience in equity investing and business operations. He focuses on low-cost technology-led innovations that can scale globally. Prior to LGTIV, he helped set up Omidyar Network (ON) in India, and established Indian operations for OATSystems, an MIT-spinoff enterprise software company, that was acquired by Checkpoint. Prior to that, Jasjit worked as an investment consultant for both The Carlyle Group’s Indian venture capital arm as well as US-based Swander Pace, and was a management consultant for Marakon. He began his career as a sustainability R&D engineer for Osmonics, Inc. (acquired by GE Power). Jasjit holds an MBA from Kellogg, a Master of Engineering from Cornell and a Bachelor of Technology from IIT Bombay, where he was a National Talent Scholar.

Jayant Sinha Hon’ble Minister of State- Civil Aviation, GOI

Mr. Jayant Sinha is the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation in the Government of India. He is a Lok Sabha Member of Parliament, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. He has over 25 years of experience as an investor and strategy consultant.

In his previous role as the Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Sinha had assisted the Hon’ble Prime Minister and Hon’ble Finance Minister in driving landmark initiatives such as PM Mudra Yojana, Social Security Platform, devising the Indradhanush package for public sector banks, launching the India Aspiration Fund to promote entrepreneurship, and strengthening India’s capital markets. He piloted key legislations, namely the Insurance Bill, Bankruptcy Bill, and Regional Rural Banks Bill in the Parliament. He also helped in preparing the Union Budgets of 2015-16 and 2016-17, which were widely hailed as two of the most significant and visionary budgets in recent years. Mr. Sinha is often credited for devising and driving innovative financing solutions, such as the National Infrastructure and Investment Fund, Long Term Irrigation Fund, and Higher Education Financing Agency. As an MP, he has been a member of important parliamentary committees such as the Standing Committee on Finance and Public Accounts Committee.

Mr. Jayant Sinha’s prior business experience includes twelve years with McKinsey & Company as a Partner in the Boston and Delhi offices. At McKinsey, Mr. Sinha co-led the global Software and IT Services Practice. Until 2013, he was a Partner at Omidyar Network, an investment firm with over $850 million in invested capital, where he led the overall investment strategy and operations in India. He also spent several years as a Managing Director at Courage Capital, a billion dollar global special situations hedge fund.

Mr. Sinha holds an M.B.A. with Distinction from the Harvard Business School, an M.S. in Energy Management & Policy from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Technology degree with Distinction from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

John L.S. Simpkins General Counsel, USAID

John L. S. Simpkins will join the faculty of Duke University School of Law in 2017. He most recently was the General Counsel of the United States Agency for International Development. Prior to joining USAID in July 2015, he served for two years as the Deputy General Counsel in the White House Office of Management and Budget. Mr. Simpkins has held a variety of positions in private practice and academia, including serving of counsel at Wyche, P.A., in Greenville, SC, as a visiting assistant professor of law at the University of Victoria, and as an assistant professor and Director of Diversity Initiatives at the Charleston School of Law. As a member of the African Network of the International Association of Constitutional Law, he has consulted and conducted research in comparative constitutional law and constitutional design in Nigeria, Liberia, Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa, among other countries. Mr. Simpkins received his A.B. in government from Harvard College and a J.D. and LL.M. in international and comparative law from Duke University School of Law. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network at the Aspen Institute.

Kiran Karnik Director in Central board of Directors, Reserve Bank of India

Kiran Karnik has held the office of President of NASSCOM, the premier trade body and the “chamber of commerce” for the IT software and services industry in India till January 2008. Mr. Karnik has been recognized as the guiding force for the Indian IT industry, especially for his guidance to the industry during the outsourcing backlash. By providing perspective and background information, he has been instrumental in promoting India’s technology strength to the world. He has been a member of many key government committees, and is presently a member of the Scientific Advisory Council to Prime Minister.

He also has a deep involvement with a number of NGOs in the areas of development, education and environment, and currently is honorary Chairman of the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (Delhi), Chairman of Vigyan Prasar and President of India Habitat Centre. He is also an independent Director on various company Boards and was Chairman of the government appointed Board of Satyam Computer Services. Prior to joining NASSCOM in 2001, Mr. Karnik was the Managing Director at Discovery Networks in India where he spearheaded the launch of Discovery Channel in South Asia in August 1995 and Animal Planet (a Discovery – BBC joint venture) in 1999. From 1991 to 1995, Mr. Karnik was Founder-Director of the Consortium for Educational Communication, which was responsible for UGC’s Countrywide Classroom broadcasts and other ICT initiatives. Mr. Karnik is also a part of the Group Advisory Council of the Aavishkaar-Intellecap Group.

Earlier, Mr. Karnik worked for over 20 years at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). His work in ISRO involved conceptualizing and managing applications of space technology, and he was a key player in the pioneering India-USA Satellite Instructional TV Experiment (SITE). In his career spanning over three decades, Mr. Karnik has been conferred many awards and accolades. He has been awarded the Padma Shri in 2007 and the ‘DATAQUEST IT Person of the Year – 2005’. BusinessWeek named Mr. Karnik as one of the ‘Stars of Asia’ in 2004 and he was selected as ‘Forbes magazine’s Face of the Year 2003’, for being a driving force behind India’s offshoring wave.

Marilou van Golstein Brouwers Chair of the Management Board, Triodos Investment Management BV

Marilou van Golstein Brouwers is Chair of the Management Board of Triodos Investment Management BV, a subsidiary of Triodos Bank. Triodos Investment Management is a specialist in developing and managing impact investment funds investing in Emerging Markets, Energy & Climate, Sustainable Real Estate, Arts &Culture, Sustainable Food &Agriculture and SRI with EUR 3.1 billion total assets per 30 June 2016.

Marilou has served on the Board of Directors of banks in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Russia, Afghanistan and Pakistan. She was a member of the Group of Advisors for the United Nations Year of Microcredit in 2004/2005, a member of the Executive Committee of CCAP (2003-2008), treasurer of the International Association of Microfinance Investors (2008-2009), member of the Board of Trustees of Women’s World Banking (2003-2012), Chair of SBI Ltd (2011-2013), Chair of the Steering Committee of the PRI/Principles for Investors in Inclusive Finance (2011-2013) and Treasurer of the Max Havelaar Foundation.

Currently she is member of the Board of Directors of the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN), member of the Advisory Committee of the Mastercard Foundation’ Fund for Rural Prosperity, member of the Advisory Council for International Development Cooperation (AIV/COS) in the Netherlands, Member of the Supervisory Board of B Corps Europe and Chair of the Advisory Board of Women in Financial Services in the Netherlands (WIFS).

Matsumoto Katsuo Senior Advisor to Director General, JICA

Mr. Matsumoto joined the Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund (OECF) in 1990. In 1996, he was appointed as Representative at Bangkok office and in 2008, as Deputy Chief Representative at Malaysia office. He has worked primarily on Japanese ODA loans to Mekong region countries and worked for South Asia since Apr. 2012. He was responsible for several of the largest Japanese ODA projects, such as the Greater Mekong Subregion: East-West Corridor Project and railway projects, such as the Bangkok Metro and the Bosphorus Rail Tube Crossing Project in Turkey. In India, Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor and Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor as well as ODA projects are under his responsibility. He graduated in 1990 with B.A. in Law from Hitotsubashi University and in 1995 with an M.A. in International Affairs from Columbia University.

Meenakshi Nath Deputy Head, DFID

Meenakshi Nath, Deputy Head, DFID India and Team Leader, Private Sector, has managed a range of development programmes in DFID-India, such as supporting governments with fiscal reform and investment climate, access to improving basic services and urbanisation. A graduate from the business school at IIM Ahmedabad, Meenakshi started her career with the private sector, moved onto being an entrepreneur, exporting leather goods to Europe and has undertaken research on diverse issues such as social exclusion, trade policy, labour standards and microfinance.

Promoter and MD of Equitas Micro Finance India P Ltd, based out of Chennai, Vasudevan was earlier the executive vice president and head – consumer banking group in Development Credit Bank Ltd, Mumbai, where he was responsible for the retail banking including retail liabilities, branch banking, retail assets and alternate channels and managing a branch network of 72 branches. “During this period CASA (current account savings account) balances grew by 35% compared to industry growth of 19%. In retail assets, many new products such as commercial vehicle financing, construction equipment financing, home equity, etc., were launched. Paula Goldman is Vice President and Global Lead for Impact Investing at Omidyar Network. Phillipe Serres Regional Manager – South Asia, Proparco

Philippe Serres is Regional Manager of Proparco for South Asia based in Delhi since August 2016. He is in charge of coordinating the origination efforts of Proparco in the region, both in terms of debt and equity financing. Prior to that he was a Private Equity Senior Investment Officer in Proparco head office in Paris. From this position, he participated in the structuring of both direct and fund deals, mainly in Africa and Asia. Rajiv Lall Founder MD & CEO, IDFC Bank

Dr. Rajiv Lall was the Executive Chairman of IDFC Limited until September 2015. He has about three decades of experience with leading global investment banks, multilateral agencies and in academia. His areas of expertise include project finance, private equity/venture capital, international capital markets, trade, infrastructure and macroeconomic policy issues with a focus on emerging markets including India and China in particular. Dr. Lall straddles the policy making and finance worlds. Rohini Nilekani Chairperson, Arghyam

Rohini Nilekani is Founder-Chairperson, Arghyam, a foundation she has personally endowed to fund initiatives in ‘Safe, Sustainable water for All’. Since 2005, Arghyam has supported work in water and sanitation all around India. Arghyam also facilitates the India Water Portal, which has become a singular resource for the sector. In 2014, together with her husband Nandan Nilekani, she co-founded and is a Director of EkStep, an education non-profit that has created a technology platform for early learning. Rohini sits on the Board of ATREE- Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment, an environmental think tank. She is on the Eminent Persons Advisory Group of the Competition Commission of India. Between 2010 and 2012, she was a member of the Audit Advisory Board of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.

Earlier, she spent several years as a journalist, and has worked or written for many leading publications such as Bombay Magazine, India Today, MINT and the Times of India. Her first novel, Stillborn, a medical thriller, was published by Penguin Books. RoopaKudva is a partner of Omidyar Network and managing director of Omidyar Network India Advisors, where she leads overall investment strategy and operations. In her role, Roopa helps Omidyar Network manage and develop the India-based portfolio across core initiatives. Prior to joining Omidyar Network, Roopa spent 23 years with CRISIL, and was its managing director and chief executive officer from 2007. S Viswanatha Prasad Managing Director, Caspian

Prasad founded Caspian Advisors in 2004 and has led the institution since then, including setting up three impact funds with increasing diversity across sectors, an AUM of USD 150 mn and a demonstrated exit track record in the impact space in India. In addition to providing strategic direction to Caspian’s various initiatives, Prasad is active in the ongoing management of Caspian’s funds and serves on the boards of multiple portfolio companies. Founder & Managing Director of Ujjivan Financial Service Limited (www.ujjivan.com ), a micro finance institution established in 2005 headquartered in Bangalore. Ujjivan started its operation supported by Grameen Trust Replication Program. Today it provides financial services through a network of 469 branches to over 3.4 million urban, semi-urban & rural customers spread across 22 states & 2 union territories, the widest footprint of a MFI in India. Ujjivan was awarded the Best Large Microfinance Institution in India in 2011. Ujjivan was among the first MFIs internationally to be certified for Customer Protection by Smart Campaign. It ranked third among the Best Companies to work for in India by the Great Place to Work Institute & Economic Times in 2016 and currently has around 9000 employees. Ujjivan is the third largest NBFC-MFI in India and received an in-principle license from the Reserve Bank of India to convert to a Small Finance Bank (SFB) by April, 2017. In order to meet the regulatory requirement of majority domestic ownership for SFB, Ujjivan undertook to raise domestic capital through a Pre-IPO & IPO of Rs.1174 Crores during the period February-May 2016. The IPO was oversubscribed 41 times and post the IPO the listed stock price has more than doubled. Ujjivan expects the final license from RBI for the SFB shortly and hopes to start operations of the bank in the first quarter of 2017.

Samit was the former President of Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN) an association of microfinance institutions in India. He is a Trustee of Women’s World Banking, New York and also former Founder & Chairman of Association of Karnataka Microfinance Institution (AKMI).

Samit was a career international banker for 30 years prior to establishing Ujjivan. He started his career with Citibank in 1975, where he spent the bulk of his career. The other banks he has worked with are: Arab Bank, Bank Muscat, Standard Chartered Bank, and HDFC Bank. He was initiated into the world of microfinance when he attended Grameen Trust’s Dialogue Program in 2004. He graduated from Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania in 1974 with Master of Business Administration. Samit lives with his family at their home in Whitefield, Bangalore since 1996.

Before coming to India Susanne Dorasil was Head of the Economic Policy & Financial Sector Division at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), in charge of sustainable economic development (economic policy, financial and private sector development), corporate social responsibility and innovative business models for development as well as ICT for development. She served as German co-facilitator of the G20 development pillar on Private Investment and Job Creation and as German co-chair of the Sub–group on SME Finance of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion. Swaminathan Aiyar Editor, Economic Times

Swaminathan S. Anklesaria Aiyar is a graduate of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and Magdalen College, Oxford. He is currently Consulting Editor of The Economics Times and a research scholar at The Cato Institute.

He has been editor of two of India’s biggest economic dailies, Financial Express in 1988-90 and The Economic Times in 1992-94. For two decades, he was also the India Correspondent of The Economist, the British weekly. He has been a frequent consultant to the World Bank and Asian Development Bank. He is best known for his popular weekly column in The Times of India, “Swaminomics”.

Swami, as he is universally called, is also a social investor. He runs the Mukundan Charitable Trust. He has co-promoted three micro-finance institutions – Arohan in Calcutta, Sonata in Allahabad and Mimo Finance in Dehra Dun. He is on the Board of Directors of Artisans Micro Finance Ltd, and hopes to convert artisans into share-owning millionaires. And he is building a fleet of medical ships on the Brahmaputra to serve islands that have never seen a doctor.

He is married to Shahnaz Anklesaria Aiyar, herself a journalist. He has three children, Shekhar, Pallavi and Rustam.

Urmi Sengupta Program Officer, Impact Investing, MacArthur Foundation

Urmi is responsible for managing grant-making on field-building and collaborative activities to inform and build the impact investing marketplace. She also coordinates the team’s evaluation activities and represents the team on all impact investing efforts undertaken in conjunction with the Foundation’s international programs.

With close to two decades of experience in international economic development, banking and impact investing, Urmi has worked with stakeholders along the financial services delivery chain, focusing specially on the small and micro segments. She started her career in corporate banking at Bank of America in India after a business degree from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, later earning a master’s degree (summa cum laude) at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago. For eight years, she worked with Capital Plus Exchange, leading and managing relationships with small business finance and microfinance institutions and developing a range of capacity building initiatives. Her work included conceptualizing, launching and running the first global community network for emerging market small business banks, an initiative that is now part of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) SME Finance Forum managed by the International Finance Corporation

Hugues started his career in 2006 as an Intern in Corporate Finance at BNP Paribas in Taiwan. He subsequently joined the Wealth Management team in Taipei where he stayed until December 2007.

In 2008, Hugues moved to Singapore where he was appointed as Business Manager for Wealth Management. During the eight years he spent in Singapore, he occupied several roles within the Wealth Management business line, including Head of Business Management and Head of the Client Development Team.

Jyotsna Krishnan Managing Director, Elevar Equity

Jyotsna joined Elevar in 2011 and currently leads Elevar’s India team and its investing in India. Her experience over the years includes retail financial services, business operations and analytics, and investing in early stage ventures. Karen has been working at the OECD since 2009 where her work has focused on innovation, entrepreneurship and finance including angel investment, venture capital, impact investment and, more recently, the role of the private sector in development finance. Karen is also a Senior Fellow at Bruegel, an international economics think tank based in Brussels, an Associate Fellow at Said Business School at Oxford University and a Visiting Lecturer at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. She is a Board Member and Advisor of the European Foundation for Entrepreneurship Research (EFER), and serves on the European Commission DG CONNECT Advisory Forum and on the European Venture Philanthropy Association (EVPA) Policy Committee.

Karen was a Senior Fellow at the Kauffman Foundation from 2008-2012. In 2004 she founded GV Partners, a research and consulting firm focused on entrepreneurship. Earlier, Karen worked with international venture capital firm, Index Ventures, and before that was part of the senior management team at the World Economic Forum in Geneva, Switzerland. Before joining Omidyar Network, Siddharth was an entrepreneur, angel investor, and mentor to startup companies across Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Pune. He incubated and advised companies in edtech and home relocation, invested in fintech, B2B SAAS, and consumer internet companies, and served on the board of India’s largest distributed clean energy company.

Siddharth was formerly with Bessemer Venture Partners, where he was most recently a partner in the firm’s Mumbai office. While at Bessemer, Siddharth had the opportunity to invest in and work with companies across various sectors including e-commerce, clean energy, healthcare, and hospitality.Siddharth joined Bessemer from McKinsey & Company, where he spent five years in the India office, working with companies across financial services, healthcare, retail, and manufacturing industries. Siddharth holds a Post Graduate Diploma in management from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad and a B. Tech. in computer science and engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur.

Vineet Sukumar Senior Partner, IFMR Capital

Vineet is presently the CFO of IFMR Capital and CEO of IFMR Investment Managers. Vineet joined IFMR Capital in early 2010 and was instrumental in formulating the origination and business development process, creating new capital market structures, as well as in driving client and investor engagement. Vineet presently heads fund management services at IFMR Investment Managers, is responsible for managing the treasury, accounts and markets teams at IFMR Capital. He also supports the CEO on developing and driving the strategy of the company.

Vineet has several years of experience in strategy, corporate finance and investment banking roles in large corporates and in the financial services industry. Prior to IFMR Capital, he worked with Standard Chartered Bank, managing the bank’s largest corporate relationship. Vineet has also worked with the Tata Group in leadership roles across diverse industries. Vineet graduated from IIT Kharagpur and completed his MBA from IIM Bangalore.

Vijaylakshmi Das Managing Director, Ananya Finance

Ms. Vijayalakshmi Das is the Managing Director and Promoter Director of Ananya Finance for Inclusive Growth (P) Limited. Ananya, and NBFC, provides loans to institutions which provide financial services to low income households in 17 states. Currently, she is also holding the position of CEO of Friends of Women’s World Banking, India. She had served as the CEO of FWWB from 1989 to 2010. She has served as member of various policy advisory groups (CGAP) and currently serves in the Board of Indian School of Microfinance for Women, Invest India Micro Pension Services, Access Development Services and some of the leading MFIs of India.

Vinita Katara Associate, Russell Reynolds Associate

Vinita Katara is a member of the firm’s CEO/Board Services, Non-Profit, and Corporate Officers practices. Based in Mumbai, she advises local and international clients on search and succession issues. She has placed a number of senior level executives across industries, including more recently in the Impact Investing space in India.

Vinita brings more than eight years of executive search experience, including CEO, CFO and Board searches across the Life Sciences, Industrial, and Consumer Sectors. She joined Russell Reynolds Associates from another leading executive search firm, where she held roles of increasing responsibility, including her work in her prior firm’s Business & Professional Services Practice, where she was part of the team responsible for driving the firm’s internal hiring. Additional professional experience includes being a member of India’s start-up team for Bristol-Myers Squibb. Vinita held sales and marketing roles there, including marketing responsibility for Taxol, the company’s blockbuster anti-cancer chemotherapy drug, on a pan-India basis.

Vinita received her Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and her M.B.A. from the SP Jain School of Global Management.

Will Poole Managing Partner, Unitus Seed Fund / Capria Ventures

Will Poole is a serial entrepreneur and venture investor. He recently co-founded Unitus Seed Fund, the leading impact fund in India investing in businesses innovating for the masses, and Capria Accelerator, partnering with and investing in emerging fund managers in developing markets of Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Will co-founded and serves on the board of Bangalore-based Vidyanext, with a mission to change the way India learns. He serves on two nonprofit boards, Village Reach and Global Washington, and serves on the investment committee of Seattle-based W Fund.

In his technology career, Will was previously Chairman of NComputing, and was a Corporate Vice President at Microsoft where, during his 13-year tenure, he led several business lines, including the $13 billion Windows client business, and founded the company’s efforts to tailor products to the needs of low-income customers. His career started by founding two startups at the dawn of the PC era, working in the early days at Sun Microsystems, and pioneering e-commerce at eShop, which was acquired by Microsoft in 1996. Will advises Brown University and Western Governors University on technology. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Brown in 1983.

Yoshiki Hashimoto Investment Committee Member, Aavishkaar

After graduated from the Osaka University for Foreign Studies in 1978, he started his career as a diplomat at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to be an expert of Central European Countries. He joined Nomura Securities in 1981. He has primarily worked at the wholesale business including Corporate and Public International Finance, Foreign Companies’ IPO to Tokyo Stock Exchange, Cross border M&A, FDI Advisory, Project Finance, Country Risk Research, New Business Development, Private Equity and Venture Investments. His last responsibility was the Head of Asia Merchant Banking based in Hong Kong in charge of Nomura’s principal investment in Asia. He retired the company in 2013 and now is a self employed consultant in the field of Cross-Border Corporate Alliance. As an advisor, he supports some start-ups, social entrepreneurs and NPOs in Japan. Hashimoto is also a partner of Social Venture Partners Tokyo and ARUN LLC.
