You sit in front of a white paper or an empty screen and want to start with your advertising letter. But how? It is an uncomfortable feeling even for some professional texters. Here you will make acquaintance with an easy method, which is called “The dialog method”, by Prof. Siegfried Vögele, direct marketing specialist in Germany.

What reaction to you expect from the readers: the reader shall call you on the phone, shall fax an order, shall come to an event. Formulate concrete in the letter what you want the reader to do next.

The left side of the brain is responsible for our logical thinking, the right side for our emotions. People do usually think more with one side of their brain. Facts and function is important for left-brain-thinker and emotions and esthetics for the right-brain-thinker.

Men and people over 50 usually think more with the left side of the brain. More men than women “fell in love” with technologies. They are usually more interested in the functions of a car.
Tip: Mix elements for both sides of the brain in one advertising text and you will reach all potential customers. Fact-orientated readers won’t read the emotional parts and emotional-orientated readers won’t read the facts.
Differences between the left- and right-brain-thinker
Women and younger people have more sense for the beautiful side of things, as you know these big groups are the main target group for the fashion industries. An important selling argument for women is the colour of a car.

Use words which create lots of pictures in the head of the reader like: mother, circle, the sea, woods, sunny, to greet, to wash
and not: Importance, opportunity, consideration, prerequisite, possible, principle, additional, special, future, to base, to prove, to present.
Use more concrete words like apple, fridge, red, to beat, to laugh
and not abstract words: eternity, legend, ideal, objective, logical, to symbolize, to analyse, to define, to result.
