Fortune Favours the BraveThe Latin proverb that states that fortune favours the brave refers to the fact that people need courage to get ahead in life. The proverb beseeches people to be brave and to face their fears. It also explains why the most successful among us tend to also be the bravest. This is certainly true of the ICMSA team during a time of such turbulence.
Our fortune was being awarded not once but twice last week at the Meetings and Events Australia National Awards Ceremony by being honoured with Association Event of the Year and Regional Event of the Year Awards. This acknowledgement is a testament to the strength and tenacity of the entire team.
One can be certain that life is going to throw us challenges to overcome. They can seem insurmountable. But, if we flip the view that any challenge can be seen as an opportunity- well our ability to create ways to approach these hurdles vastly improves.
Another reason that fortune favours the brave is that some rewards wouldn’t be possible without taking a chance. Playing it safe will not lead to change. Change will not lead to new horizons.
The history of the saying derives from a Latin proverb when it referred to a Roman goddess of luck, Fortuna, and the idea was that when Fortuna smiled on a person, that person ended up with luck on their side.
Luck implies a lack of purpose. I believe we have created our own luck. By doing so, we’re also shaping our future fortunes and these Awards are well-deserved recognition of our contributions.
