2012-13 Rec ruitment Report

Introduction:Recruitment efforts during spring 2012 were dedicated to expanding

the capacity of Fortune School’s recruitment strategies for all of its

charter school campuses. Fortune School hired a recruitment

campaign manager as well as staff of high school and college

interns to support recruitment efforts. Our team focused onrecruiting at preschools, afterschool programs, churches, door-to-

door, at community events and retail shopping centers, grocery

stores as well as hair salons and apartment complexes located near

low performing schools. In addition, Fortune advertised on the

radio, billboards and through direct mail. In addition, we

encouraged existing Fortune School parents to refer a friend.

Parents who referred a friend who enrolled received a free uniform

shirt for each scholar they referred.

2012-13 Budget & First Interim

2012-13 BUDGET (OUR FINDINGS FROM BUDGET PREPARED JUNE 2012)

• Budget assumptions are reasonable and provided contingency planning for mid-

year trigger cuts.

• Projected reserves meet MOU standards.

• Budget reports provide sufficient detail to analyze the financial situation.

• Cash borrowing options are in place

2012-13 FIRST INTERIM (DECEMBER 1 – LATE BREAKING NEWS)

• Budget assumptions are reasonable & projected reserves meet MOU standards.

• Budget reports provide sufficient detail to analyze the financial situation.

• Complete review of document is underway.

• CDE does not recognize William Lee as a new charter, but an expansion of the

existing Fortune school. This has created challenges in accurately projecting how

funding will be received in various categorical programs. However, the budget is

being updated appropriately.
