Welcome to Forthbank Stadium for the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup Semi-Finals. As always, it’s set-up to be a Super Sunday of women’s football.
I’d like to start by saying thank you to Forthbank Stadium and Active Stirling for hosting the Semi-Finals again. Feedback from the previous year was extremely positive from players, coaches, and spectators, so we’re looking forward to another fantastic event.
Today’s matches see four of Scotland’s top teams battle for a place in the final. This will take place at Firhill on Sunday 4th November, 16:10 KO.
Our first game at 12:00 is Hibernian against Glasgow City. Both teams have met in the final in the last three years, but only one will make it this time. Given how close these matches have been and that both sides are neck-and-neck in the league, this match could go either way.
The second game is at 16:00 between SWPL 1 side, Spartans, and SWPL 2 champions, Motherwell. Like the first match, this is a dicult one to call. Spartans avoided relegation in the league after a positive change in fortunes under new Head Coach, Debbi McCulloch. On the other hand, Motherwell have enjoyed a historic year. They won SWPL 2 with five games to spare and will be hoping to add a SSE Scottish Women’s Cup final place to the history books.
No matter the results today, we’re set for a fantastic day of football and we can all look forward to an excellent final next month in Glasgow.
Given the excitement around both games, Scottish Women’s Football are working with BBC Sport and Edinburgh College to broadcast these games live. To have these matches available via such a platform as the BBC is another historic moment for the game. If you know anyone that can’t make today, please encourage them to watch the action.
Finally, on behalf of Scottish Women’s Football, I would like to thank all the players, coaches, match ocials, and volunteers who give their time selflessly to develop and support the girls and women’s game throughout the year. And a very special thanks to all the spectators who have come along to support them today.
Good luck to all teams. We hope you have a fantastic experience, no matter the result.
We’re really excited for the game. We’re preparing
quietly and buzzing to get involved. It’s a great
match-up between ourselves and City, it always is. It’s a
fast paced and fierce game. It’s a great occasion, great
opposition, so we’ll try and go out and enjoy it.
Grant ScottHead Coach
It’s the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup and any footballer,
firstly, wants to be involved in but to secondly, win. It’s
such a special cup and we’ll be approaching the match
with a positive mind-set, hoping we can be in that final
come November.

We’re really looking for to it. It’s an important game for
us and we want to get to that final. In recent times, Hibs
have had the edge in cup competitions. That’s
something we want to put right. My players want to win
as many games and as many trophies as possible, so
this is a massive game for us.
Scott BoothHead Coach
We’re really looking forward to it, it has been a long
time coming. It’s a very exciting time. Against our rivals,
it’s always a game we look forward to. We’re hurting
from the last couple of years, we don’t like to lose. We
keep those memories and use them to drive us on. We’ll
definitely be looking to this game to change that.

It has been a long time coming. All the focus has been
towards the cup. The league was already tied-up, so the
main focus was a cup run and see how far we could
extend the season. We want to get to the final, so we’re
going to be motivated. We’re going to give Spartans a
run for their money and ultimately, we’re here to win.
Greg HarrisonFirst Team Coach
We have had great preparation and great build-up to
the game, so we’re looking forward to it. It has been a
fantastic journey, we’ve loved it as a team and we’re
raring to go. There’s no pressure on us but at the same
time, we put pressure on ourselves. We’re just
absolutely buzzing.

It’s a great occasion, not only for the team but also for
the club. We’re really looking forward to it and we hope
we can put on a good performance that come to support
us. It’s about enjoying the occasion and that is what I’ll
really be telling them. We’ll hopefully claim our place in
the final.
Debbi McCullochHead Coach
We’ve very excited. We’re really looking forward to
playing in a Semi-Final. Thanks to those that have
supported us and believed in us, especially after
everything we’ve been through this season. We’re
going to give it everything.
