From the CommodoreHappy Spring! I hope everyone is enjoying our beautiful spring season at the Fort Worth Boat Club. Many of you have seen that the Harbor Project is underway – I know this is a huge, cumbersome project, but it will benefit every single member immensely. My committee is busy testing new breakwater walls and we should have an announcement on this project soon.

The FWBC is officially part of a high school sailing team for the first time in club history. All Saints’ Episcopal School of Fort Worth has partnered with the FWBC to start its own competitive sailing club. With a total of 23 students coming out to sail each week, this program will breathe even more life into Coach Lindley’s already successful program. The Junior Program is set up for another great summer. Coach Lindley and the general membership are in need of some upgraded equipment for all to enjoy so please come out and support the Sailing Program at the Opening Day Gala on Saturday, April 11 – this will be an incredible evening for all to enjoy. Please send in your reply card today! We have an amazing chef, Chris Belanger. Please come out and join us for Easter Brunch, Mother’s Day festivities and many other wonderful Spring celebrations being planned at the FWBC.Hope to see you all at the club.Sail on!Commodore Hillard

Let me start by thanking all of the members for the warm “Welcome”, which I have

received since coming on board. It has been a great the past couple of months as I get to know the club and it’s members. My focus since coming here is to ensure that you consistently get the quality food that you,

as a member, deserve. I appreciate the feedback I continually receive, and hope that you have seen a difference, since I have taken the helm. With the weather changing and spring upon us, we are looking forward to seeing more of you and offering you some new menus that take advantage of all the bounty the upcoming seasons can bring. In addition, we have several upcoming events that I’m putting the finishing touches on the menus for including; Opening Day, Easter and Mother’s Day. So keep a look out for those email blasts about these events and other special menus.Thank you again and Happy SailingChef Chris Belanger“It’s fun to get together and have something good to eat at least once a day. That’s what human life is all about- enjoying things.”- Julia Child

For the month of April, we have a few special events that are taking place.

The first is of course, Easter, which we will have events on both the 4th and the 5th of April. On April 4th, we will have the “Sailboat Race to the Eggs”, a race on the water with a chef inspired buffet to follow

as well as fun and games on the lawn. . The fun and games will include an Easter egg hunt, an Easter piñata full of candy, coloring Easter eggs, and a “Bunny Hop” sack race. On Sunday, April 5th, FWBC will be having an Easter brunch buffet that will include food for all age groups. We ask that you make reservations in advance for the Easter Brunch. April 11th will host the Fort Worth Boat Club’s Opening Day Ceremony as well as the much anticipated Fundraising Gala for the Junior Sailing Program. The event will include multiple items being auctioned off to assist our rapidly growing junior sailing program.Throughout the month of April we will continue to have “Prix Fixe Two-for-One” on Wednesday nights, which with

the creativity of Chef Chris and his kitchen staff have been incredible. The turnout for Wednesday night over the past few months has been tremendous. Please call and make reservations in advance. Another new event with great success has been Texas Hold ‘Em on the first Thursday of every month. Come out, play, and enjoy a “Souper Bowl” dinner with fellow members. Over the next couple of months, there are some events to mark down on your calendar. In May, we have our annual Mother’s Day Brunch on the 10th. Please call the office for reservations. Also May 24th is our Memorial Day Celebration, so come and join us by the pool and on the lawn for fun and games and come back on Monday, May 25th for a picnic buffet on the lawn.On June 13th we will host our annual Special Olympics Race, which is a big hit every year. Come out, support a great cause, and have some summer fun!

Membership Report Despite “Old Man Winter” visiting us and refusing to leave, our first quarter 2015 Membership Mixers were well attended and much enjoyed. We were privileged during our February mixer to have nationally known “Amazing” face-reader, Mac Fulfer, J.D., who read faces of our fellow members throughout the evening. Members lined up and were amazed by how much was revealed by just characteristics of their face – thus the name of Mac’s business – “Amazing Face-Reading”. Shannon’s Brewing Company of Keller help bring in St. Paddy’s Day at our March mixer by generously hosting a beer sampling, showing off their fire-roasted brews, including their Pale Ale, IPA, Blonde, Irish Red, and Chocolate Stout. Chef Chris Belanger offered a special tasting menu complimenting these crafted beers.Gratitude goes to Carolyn Cruz for arranging both Mac Fulfer and Shannon Brewing Company to participate in the mixers which made these events fun! Our membership mixers are held on the second Friday of each month. Please check our calendar for details on our upcoming mixers. Vince Cruz, Jr.Rear Commodore | Membership Chairman

As discussed in the Annual Meeting last November, there are big changes to be taking place in the harbor. The Harbor Committee has been working on a long term strategy to resolve the ongoing fluctuation in the water levels at our club. The goal is to serve our membership by providing a safe and deep water harbor going into the future. This is a multi-step process and the physical work is now finally beginning. • During the end of 2014, the Harbor started the

application process for the 4 required permits necessary for us to dredge. We have begun to receive the approvals. As a result, we have been able to sign a contract with a floating dredging company what will begin dredging in the motor harbor.

• The New Year began with the removal of Boat Houses 4 and 5. The slips within these boat houses were too small to service most of the new power boats that are joining our club. The goal is to replace these slips with larger slips for both cruisers and recreational boats. We are currently evaluating the demand for different sized boat slips so that we know what type of new boat slips to purchase. If you desire to lease a slip from your club and Please contact the harbor via email: [email protected] to get on the wait list. We are going to make every effort to accommodate all people that request boat slips.

• Also during the beginning of this year, we have been evaluating whether to repair our current break water wall or replace it with a floating break water wall system. The value in the floating system is in the ability for the harbor to chase water during fluctuating lake levels, thus allowing the harbor to keep the bo ats of members at the club. In addition, this system will provide a safe location for people to sail in high weather days, a more overall appealing harbor, and lower long term maintenance cost. During the month of March the club will have three different floating systems for demo in front of our club. Please take a look at what is going on in the Harbor.

2015 is looking to be a very busy year in the harbor with lots of work to be done. Thanks for your patience while we are working to get it done as most efficiently and cost effective as possible. Governors Paul Bregenzer & Craig Johnson

Sailing Director’s ReportBy sailing direCtor sCott lindley

The past two months at the Fort Worth Boat Club have been very productive

and successful. Our Jr. Opti Team has been traveling and training hard. We have traveled to St. Petersburg, FL where Lindsay Campbell finished in the top 25% and qualified for her first USODA Team Trials which will be held in Miami in April. Our Team also just got back last weekend from Houston for the first TSA Event of the year where most of the team showed incredible improvement. We have done all this despite challenging weather conditions. FWBC also saw the birth of it’s first High School Sailing Program with the All Saints Sailing Team showing up with 20 plus sailors to it’s kick off. It’s also been busy from a different direction where many of our members have been working very hard at putting together our Jr. Sailing Fundraiser which will be held April 11th at the FWBC. We are attempting to bolster our infrastructure with new modern equipment, boats and Kayak’s/Paddle Boards for the summer program and for all members to use. The Jrs will also be traveling Canyon Lake, Mississippi and New Orleans this Month. The Summer Jr. Program is now on-line with lots of new additions and options for your children to participate in. We are proud to be launching our new Adventure Camp, which will include paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing and sailing. The Adult Sailing Program will get rolling soon with a great new format and fantastic coaches. Don’t forget to sign up.

TSA # 1 Report- Jr Sailing Travels to Houston Fantastic weekend with Team FWBC at the first TSA event of the year hosted by Lakewood Yacht Club. Had some troubles getting people and equipment out of the Fort Worth Area due to Snow and ice. Anthony Ceplecha and Olivia Chaumont along with Max Nilsson and Anthony’s Boats which were on the trailer that didn’t make it. Storm came in quick and I with a few others barely made it out on Friday morning. The regatta was a one day event due to rain and dense fog on Sunday. Crazy Weather! Must be because of Global Cooling. lol One of the highlights of the regatta was watching the “flying squirrel” Lindsay Campbell win her first TSA race in RWB. Max had a tough time with a breakdown in the second race which was his best race. Parents all were great and pitched in. Thank You. I am very proud of all our kids and all their hard work is starting to pay off. I look forward to TSA # 2 at Canyon Lake.Laser 4.7 Class Christophe Chaumont 2nd Place overall with a 1-2-2Opti RWB Classes (47 boats) Nico Martin 3rd Overall- 2nd in Red fleet Lucija Ruzevic 10th Overall- 7th in Red fleet Lindsay Campbell 16th Overall- 9th in Blue Fleet Trey Leathers 21st Overall- 12th in Blue Fleet Mati Martin 31st Overall 6th in White Fleet Max Nilsson 40th Overall 10th in White Fleet

Update from the Board of GovernorsBy seCretary Chad Cline

A significant portion of the Board of Governors

attention has been following up on the vote of the membership to proceed with harbor improvements. Several members of the Board and others have been working diligently to get the financial arrangements in order and the contract in place for demolition of two boat houses and beginning the dredging of the harbor. The loan documents and dredging contracts were signed just before the February 18th meeting. These projects are now in full swing with demolition of boat houses 5 and 6 complete and dredging has commenced. The Board is committed to working quickly to improve the state of the harbor and docks and is excited about the progress made so far.Another exciting initiative that the Board is following and working to assist on is the Junior Sailing program and enhancements proposed for the coming summer. The Board is in support of these initiatives and how they will build interest among young people and the future of the Club. Of particular interest is the program for a high school sailing team from All Saints Episcopal School. The Board was glad to receive the report from the General Manager that there have been significant improvements in food and beverage activities. The Board continues to monitor the quality and profitability of the food and beverage operation and works to meet the Member’s needs. A new catering package has been created to meet the increased demand for events at the Club. The Club has been entered in the Taste of Fort Worth! And as always, the Board each month closely reviews the financial statements, financial condition, and membership statistics of the Club and discusses any adjustments or initiatives that need to be undertaken for improvement.
