FORT RUCKER FIREWOOD PROGRAM
Hi-
Fort Rucker will resume a firewood cutting
program beginning 8 February, 2010. The
firewood program at Fort Rucker is a self-service
program designed to provide low-cost firewood
for Soldiers and civilians who reside on Fort
Rucker and in local communities. It consists of
gathering and removing firewood from
predetermined areas assigned by Fort Rucker’s
Forest Management Program.
In order to cut firewood on Fort Rucker, a permit
must be purchased at the Directorate of Public
Works, Natural Resources Branch (Bldg. 1453).
The cost of the permit is $10.00 (paid with a
CERTIFIED CHECK OR MONEY ORDER
MADE OUT TO U.S. DEPARTMENT OF
TREASURY). This money order must be
submitted to the Natural Resources staff in order
to acquire a permit. Each firewood permit
purchased during the work week (M-F) will be
good only on the day it is purchased. All
firewood permits purchased for cutting firewood
over the weekend will be purchased on the
Friday immediately prior to the weekend in
which firewood will be harvested and will be
good for both Saturday and Sunday. The limit
for each permit will be 1 cord or 1 pickup truck
load. (1 cord = 4 ft. X 4 ft. X 8 ft.)
Firewood areas will be accessible by 4-wheeldrive vehicles and are easily accessible fromtowns surrounding the installation.
Military training will often be scheduled that willprevent access for activities in specific trainingareas. Forest Management staff will coordinatewith the Range Control office for schedulinglocations based on ongoing military training. TheForest Management staff will consistently updatemaps for firewood cutting. It will not benecessary for each person cutting firewood tocoordinate with Range Control for their specificlocation.
