Happy 2019! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Season and some special time with family and friends. Now it’s time to relax for a bit, and contemplate a new year and maybe come up with a few New Years resolutions. Thank you to those who came early for our Dec. meeting. We had a great practice with DGM Karen, and a fun time with “ugly” sweaters, slippers and a gift exchange. We also learned of some changes made in our ritual work. Please put Tuesday, January 22nd on your calendar. A district wide practice with our DGM is scheduled for that day, 7pm at the Redding Masonic Family Center. Officers from all four chapters are invited and encouraged to attend. This will give us a chance not only to practice with a full set of officers, but also a time to get to know our counterparts from other chapters. It will be informative and fun. Our next meeting, is Friday, January 4th. We will celebrate the beginning of a new year. If you like, wear white, black and/or red. We will take a little time to hear some of your new years resolutions, or maybe a short story of ones made in the past. We will begin with a dinner at 6pm ($8) and a toast to the new year. Our regular meeting is at 7pm. Please RSVP for the dinner to me at 547-3662. Happy Birthday and anniversary to those who celebrate in January. A New Year shines bright!

Wishing you joy in your heart and peace in your life through every season of this sparkling new year.

Star Love,Penny

Refreshments at 6:00 meeting at 7:00 2nd & 4th Thursdays Dark July & August

Greetings Nobles, On Sunday, December 2nd the Intermountain-Modoc Shrine Club held our annual dinner at the Fall River Hotel Dining Room. 17 Nobles, their Ladies, Friends of the Shrine and guests enjoyed a delicious dinner of either stuffed pork loin or turkey followed by coffee and dessert. After dessert, our guest, Amber Beck, gave a short talk about her daugh-ter’s experience and ongoing treatment for spine problems at the Northern California Shrine Hospital in Sacramento. She was very grateful for her daughters treatment and care as well as for the fund raising efforts of the Shrine Clubs to help support the hospital. Following Amber’s talk, No-ble Ed Bosworth, Jr., Vice-President in perpetuity and last year’s recipient of the “Shriner of the Year” award gave a short talk outlining the achievements of the 2018 Inter-Mountain Modoc Shriner of the Year recipient before pre-senting Noble Don Smith, President of our club with his award. President Smith thanked all of the Nobles and their Ladies and our “Friends of the Shrine” members for all of their support this past year. He emphasized that the money that we donate to the Shrine Hospital and transportation fund could not be done without the hard work of everyone and without the outstanding support that we receive from our community. Since we will be having the same officers this year as in the past couple of years we dispensed with the installation of officers and everyone went home to their woodstoves to warm up!

Many thanks to all that assisted with the 18th Annual Masonic Christmas Party. Setting

up the hall, cooking the meal, serving and cleanup is so much more fun doing it together. We celebrated a wonder-ful meal with family and friends with a special 90th birth-day song to Brother Dick Hughes, PM. Just when you think we have heard the best ever, the I AM bell ringers outdid themselves this year with an outstanding performance. We initiated a new Brother, Rusty Owen, in the 1st De-gree of Masonry. Fine job by Officers !!!

A special thanks to Brother Dave Terry who came from Howard Lodge to assist. Dinner in January will be turkey enchiladas. Request of the Brothers . Again thanks to Brothers Leo, Allen. Brian. Glenn, Lew-is, Mark Juarez , Bill, Hamedo, Rod, Mike as well as Brother Wideman from Weaverville for their assistance with our special night. And what about JR as Santa! GREAT JOB! The kids were really happy and enjoyed Santa. Installation for new Officers will be January 19th at noon at the Lodge. Wishing all a Happy New Year.

Welcome Redding #17Order of the Eastern Star

Redding, California

Happy New Year! We are hoping for a far better year - of common sense, generosity

and kindness. If each of us smiled more and laughed more, wouldn’t it be nice? That is a challenge, folks! Welcome-Redding is already off to a fine start; - the De-cember events were well-attended and filled with delight-ful fellowship. (All the refreshments recipes were truly en-joyed, also!) We had fun putting on the Holiday Luncheon & Bazaar. THANK YOU to those who donated and shopped…it was a success! Worthy Matron Vanya Christian and Worthy Patron Norm Pearson are looking forward to a fun-filled term and have many new ideas for bringing us all into the commu-nity with projects and original entertainment. The new officer corps will be complete when those who were unable to be installed in December are back with us! We are so pleased to have Susan Sechrist and Kay Ar-buckle doing so well after their health ordeals. The first meeting and practice went very well and it would sure be terrific to see side-liners witness the fine work these folks present each month. Come on and join us! The January meeting will be on the 8th with a potluck dinner to precede the meeting at 6:00. The choice division goes like this: Those with last name initials A -> CA bring Salad; CH -> J bring Entrée (Main Dish); K -> SE bring Side Dish; SH -> Y bring dessert. If you have any questions, please call Vanya Christian, Chm. at 364-2874. There will be a District-wide Practice on January 22nd. This will be a great time to meet the officer counterparts and get acquainted with other chapter members. It will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Redding Masonic Family Center. Our Deputy Grand Matron, Karen Skelton will chair this event and is hoping for a good turnout of Sisters and Brothers. Also scheduled on January 22nd is the “PortPala-palooza” party. This event was so much fun last year and will be even better as we get more proficient. It is a Brown-bag lunch workshop, starting at 10am and breaking up at 2pm. So many good reports are coming in from all over

about these little ‘pillows’ and we want to keep up the good works. J.J. Jensen is our Chm. And will show anyone how to take part. It feels good to make others feel better. We wish all the Anniversary and birthday celebrants in January: ‘very happy returns of your day’! We will see you (hopefully) at our 2019 meeting and events…they are always worthwhile!

Sisters and Brothers: I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Years. We started the holiday season with signing cards for our 50 year members, shutins and those living too far away to visit. To the delight of our members, Christmas carols could be heard during our meeting played by Sister Bon-nie Martin, PM. Members brought in trays of cookies and we made plates to deliver. Thanks to those that made the home visits. We attended and participated in the 18th Annual Ma-sonic Christmas Party on Saturday the 15th . The "I AM" bell ringers are absolutely amazing!! Thanks to all that donated to the auction and came to set up and decorate. It went over very well. We will install Sister Rose Abbasi as Adah next meeting. We will renew our obligation in January and anyone want-ing to give proficiency let us know. Several schools are coming up (AMI's, Secretary/Treasurer training Conduc-tress/Associate Conductress). If you plan on attending any of the events be sure and contact them as reservations will be needed. Happy 90th Birthday Sister Betty Ozunas and 93rd for our Brother Harold Barnum. Brother Lou Stanton cel-ebrated his birthday on December 30th and we hope he had a great one. Anniversay celebration to Royce and Mark Fischer. Wishing you all a very safe and happy 2019.

Brethren, My apologies that the monthly articles

have not been submitted on a timely basis. Our previous Stated meeting was held on the third Monday of the month due to a lack of a quorum on the Second Monday. Meeting was held after the submission deadline. Dates of notable interest for the months of Decem-ber, and January. Birthdays: Ron Muzio, 1/08, Robert Whit-marsh, 12/28, Dave Holub, PM, 01/01, Merle Bethke, 01/03, Doug Rand, 01/06, Dennis Reese, 01/12, Jack McDonald, 01/14, Mark Hodges, PM, 01/18, and John Loomis, PM, 01/30. Third Degree Anniversaries: John Budman, 12/18, Rudy Holub, PM, 12/19, Mervin Moran,12/04, Tim Saxon, 12/21, Regan Wood, 12/15, John Durkin, 01/28, Larry Glass, 01/28, Jonathan Hodges, 01/19, George Kent, 01/21, Mi-chael Millard, 01/10, and Gary Ramsden, 01/09. Our November Stated meeting consisted of Election of Officers for the 2019 Masonic Year. It was voted that the 2018 Officers be elected in mass for the 2019 Masonic year. It is greatly appreciated the Worshipful Chris Erikson pre-pared a stated meeting meal for the brethren and family members that attended. Thank you so much Brother Chris! I was unable to attend the December meeting due to medi-cal issues and Brother Chris stepped up to the plate to run the meeting! Thank you so much! For our December Stated Meeting, several Brothers from Redding #254 made the trip over the hill to Weaver-ville to attend what, most of us believe, would be the last Stated Meeting of Trinity Lodge #27 before consolidation. Thank you all so very much. Business consisted of tying up some loose ends in reference to consolidation. The two lodges have made every effort to make this a smooth tran-sition. I would say that perhaps we should teach a class to other lodges on how to consolidate without rancor or hard feelings, but with Brotherly Love. The decision was made in Grand Lodge during a meeting on December 17, so most of you know the outcome as you read this article. Thank you all for the honor of selecting me to sit in the east for nine years. My objective was to keep the lodge alive and going. I am sorry that I could not accomplish it. As was passed on to me by a Brother: he was speaking with a member of Trinity #27 who was expressing disfavor on the consolidation. He was asked how long has it been since he had been in Lodge. He answered four years. The reply was, then you are part of problem!

Fraternally,Steve Hanover, WM

The season of Advent, which comes from the Latin word adventus meaning “coming” or “visit," be-gins four Sundays before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. Advent is the beginning of the li-turgical year for Christians. Advent is the season when we make spiritual preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas. Celebrating with an Ad-vent wreath is a meaningful custom in many Chris-tian traditions. The lighting of an Advent wreath is a custom that began in 16th-century Germany among Lutherans and Catholics. In Western Chris-tianity, Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day, or the Sunday which falls closest to November 30, and lasts through Christmas Eve, or December 24.

Each week of Advent on Sunday, a particular Ad-vent candle is lit.

This first candle represents hope.

The second represents love.

The third represents joy.

The fourth represents peace.

Celebrating with an Advent wreath during the weeks before Christmas is an excellent way for families to keep Christ at the center of Christmas.

I hope you all have time this year to reflect on the many lessons that are taught during Advent. I also want you to reflect on the beginning of a new Lodge. Reading-Trinity # 27 will have come into existence on Jan 1. It is with great Joy and Hope that tradi-tions are maintained and new generations of Ma-sons will have a rich Masonic history to reflect back upon. Our new Master, Worshipful Tom Kurth, has a momentous task in bringing us together – untied for the benefit of Masons in the North State. Worshipful Tom has provided a vision that we can all support and be a part of. I encourage all of our now 200 plus members to come out support and, better yet, be a part of this vision and get involved in the advance-ment of our Masonic heritage.

Happy New Year! Western Star Lodge #2 is looking forward to many masonic journeys this year. We are planning an “On the Level Program” in May where we will invite the public into the lodge for light refreshments and the opportunity to learn about masonry and what we are all about. We enjoyed a well-attended 171st installation of officers on December 29th. We welcomed brother Kemp Letts as the newest member of Western Star and the newly installed Junior Warden, we are happy to welcome Kemp to our lodge family and look forward to the many virtues he brings with him. We are holding a past masters’ night on January 29th, where we will be conferring the 3rd degree of masonry upon brother Paul “Link” Hackney, who in Febru-ary will be joining our officer line as our junior steward. In addition, please join us at the lodge on the third Tuesday of the month for our Masonic education evenings beginning at 6pm. These will continue each month through October. For more information please consult our lodge’s new web page at lodge2.freemason.org for an up to date calendar.

Fraternally,Matt Larsen - Master

Brethren As your new Junior Warden, this is my first article for Western Star Lodge #2, the Oldest Chartered Lodge in the State of California. As the newest member of the Lodge, I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and work-ing with the Lodge in the years to come. For those of you who do not know me, I have a passion for Masonic history and education. With the permission of the Worshipful Mas-ter, it is my intent for the next year to hold a Masonic fellow-ship/education night on the third Tuesday of each month at 6pm. The first three sessions will be dealing with the First Degree Ritual and all Masons are invited. The second three sessions will be dealing with the Second Degree Ritual and all FC and MM only are invited. The third three sessions will be dealing with the Third Degree Ritual and only MM are invited. If you have any suggestions as to topics you would like to discuss or even MC, please let me know. Although we have already had our December stated meeting, June and December are excellent months to talk about the circumpunct or the point within the circle. As you may know the Feast of St. John the Evangelist is celebrated on December 27 which is the Winter Solstice. At the January fellowship on 1/15/2019 at 6pm, we will take some time to talk about the circumpunct and its significance to Masonry. The primary topic for discussion is the First Degree Obligation and how it binds us to the Fraternity. Did Masons like Albert Pike, Albert Mackay, and Carl Claudy live up to their First Degree Obligation being such prolific writers as they were? Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I am looking forward to the upcoming Masonic Year and making new and lasting friendships.

The beginning of a New Year and a new lodge are rapidly approaching. With sadness we

have had the final Stated Meetings of Reading Lodge #254 and Trinity Lodge #27. From this sorrow, the new opportu-nities being created by the Reading – Trinity Lodge #27 are immense. A significant charity fund is in the process of being es-tablished. This endowment will help sponsor increased in-volvement in our North State Communities. The combina-tion of the two lodges is also providing a new vibrancy in the membership. It is my hope that these brethren of the new lodge will seize this opportunity and work together to improve Ma-sonry here in the North State. The first Stated Meeting will be Thursday, January 3rd. Dinner will be at 6:30pm. The Stated Meeting will be at 7:30pm. Eastern Star will be providing the meal of meat loaf with all the tasty trimmings. The Installation of the new Reading – Trinity Lodge #27 will be on Saturday, January 5th at 4pm. Dinner will follow at 5:30pm. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and best wishes for health, happiness, opportunities and prosperity in the New Year.
