Josephine Adina Natrasevschi was also chosen by the Coloradoan for the 2014 Leadership & Academic All-Star award!

FCHS Advanced Drawing collaborated with The Memory Project, a non-profit that connects orphaned youth from third world countries with high school artists who draw their portraits. This year's portraits were created for kids in Cambodia. Students were required to do extensive research on the region before participating in the project. Here is a link to the video of the orphanage receiving portraits. http://memoryproject.org/Cambodia2014.php

Nick Seaman 5K Race

The fifth annual Nick Seaman 5K Race is scheduled for April 26th at 8:30 am at Fossil Ridge High School. The race is a competition among our high schools. The school with the most participation wins the traveling trophy. Rocky, Fossil, Poudre and Fort Collins will compete again this year to have the most people at the race. Rocky took home the traveling trophy last year (it’s pretty cool looking). We want to see FCHS with a much stronger presence this year – and possibly take the trophy home!

The race is in memory of Nick Seaman, who taught at Fossil and lost a battle with testicular cancer three years ago. Through the race, we build camaraderie among our schools, bring awareness of this disease to our students (affects males ages 15-35) and benefit RamStrength, a local organization that provides funds to families dealing with cancer. Many of our PSD families are recipients of RamStrength funds. Staff and students at FCHS are already planning the race.

Watch for the video about this race, featuring many of your fellow students and teachers, on Klyd announcements and also linked to our web pages. Please sign up to participate in the race (race day: April 26th). Registration begins now and can be done online or at FCHS – see one of the race contact people.

Thank you so much! Your support will help tie our schools together with friendly competition and raise funds to help our PSD families dealing with cancer who need our support.

Pillars of Excellence: PBIS at FCHS

Adorning our school, from the gymnasium to the cafeteria and from the hallways to the classrooms, are beautiful banners of the FCHS Pillars of Excellence, each pillar showing an expectation for behavior at that particular location in the building. The Pillars of Excellence initiative provides students and staff with behavioral expectations articulating the attributes that all Lambkins should exhibit: Acceptance, Pride, Integrity, Respect, and Responsibility.

The entire staff at FCHS recognizes students and adults who exemplify positive behaviors by handing out Clyde Kudos. These coupons are randomly drawn weekly; selected Lambkins are publicly recognized and awarded a prize. Consistent reinforcement of the qualities and behaviors presented by the Pillars of Excellence makes FCHS a place where excellence is not only expected, but is also taught, modeled, and rewarded.

Join Science Bowl!

Meets on Thursdays 3:00-4:30 pm, Room L207 See Mrs. Morris for more information

Science Knowledge Bowl competition began in 1991 to encourage middle and high school-aged students to take a more active role in science. During the compe-tition, each team, consisting of four students, is quizzed during a fast-paced ques-tion-and-answer format similar to that of the TV game show “Jeopardy.” The stu-dents then earn extra points by tackling more in-depth short-answer questions that are solved by the entire team.

Each school can send two teams made up of 5 members each to our regional com-petition in February and may qualify for state national competitions. For more in-formation go to: www.scied.science.doe.gov/nsbjournal/default.htm

Encourage your student to come and be a part of our team. You need to like sci-ence, math and/or technology. We work hard in Science and play hard, too! Our regional tournament is TBA.

Join Science Olympiad!

Wednesdays from 3:00-3:45 PM, Room L205 See Mrs. Osborn or Mrs. Morris for more information

Science Olympiad is a national organization that strives to bring science to life, to show how science works, to emphasize problem solving aspects of science and the understanding of science concepts, while developing teamwork and cooperative learning strategies among students. Each school can send a team made up of 15 members to regional competition in February and may qualify for state and/or national competitions. For more information go to: http://www.soinc.org.

Encourage your student to come and be a part of our Science Olympiad Team. We work hard in Science and play hard, too!

Letters Of Recommendation

Please be sure pick up an instruction sheet and Letter of Recommendation Request Form in the Career Center. These will help you provide your teachers with all the information they need to write a meaningful letter for you. It’s important to allow your teachers at least two weeks advance notice – the more time you give them, the better. Please take the forms to your teacher and ask in person for them to write you a reference.

We ask that you limit your requests to one or two teachers who know you well. Often, colleges only require one teacher recommendation and one counselor recommendation. Letters of recommendation are considered confidential at FCHS – teachers are not required to give you a copy. Your teacher will upload your letter to Naviance, and it will be sent to your colleges with your transcript. Colleges prefer letters which are confidential and which come directly from the school. Please know that teachers will not agree to write a letter for you if they are not comfortable providing a positive one.

Seniors!

Please schedule your senior meeting with your counselor ASAP. During this meeting, you’ll review your progress toward graduation and discuss your plans for the future. If you are planning to attend college, it’s imperative to meet with your counselor – s/he will need to fill out application forms for you, and will probably need to write you a letter a recommendation. Your counselor can also provide a great deal of information about the college application process.

Don’t delay! Counselor schedules are posted outside their doors. Please sign up for a 60-minute appointment at your earliest convenience.

Sending Transcripts to NCAA

This can now be done electronically! Students need to register online with the NCAA and then initiate the transcript request from the NCAA website, under the “My Tasks” tab. FCHS will then be notified and will submit the documents. This is a much more efficient process, and will expedite student requests.
