The Fort Campbell Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) is the proud sponsor of the

National Red Ribbon Week Celebration. We are doing our part to keep Soldiers, Children,

Families and our Community safe, healthy and drug-free through networking and sponsoring

the National Red Ribbon Campaign, 23-31 October 2015.

Red Ribbon Week

ASAP will have a display at the PX, activities with local schools, articles in the “Courier”, and partner with the Fort Campbell Child and Youth Services Program.

The Red Ribbon Week campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. This began the continuing tradition of displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a DRUG-FREE AMERICA.

23 October 2015: Walk Your Child To School

In an effort to start a dialogue between parents and children, the Fort Campbell Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) is sponsoring a “Walk Your Child to School” event.

We are asking parents to take some time and walk your child to school, drive them to school, walk them to the bus stop, or just take some time and talk with your children about the dangers of drugs.

By walking with your child you may discover some of the risks your child faces daily as they make their way to school. The ASAP will provide questions on our Facebook page to make conversations easier to start.

• Avoid oversized or long trailing fabric when picking a costume. Ensure eye holes are large enough to see out.

• Dried flowers, cornstalks and crepe paper are highly flammable.

• It is safest to use a flashlight or battery operated candle in a jack-o-lantern. If using real candles, keep pumpkins far away from anything that can burn

• Remember to keep exits clear of decorations

• Tell children to stay away from open flames
