FORSYTH TECHNICAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE Forsyth Tech has been serving the citizens of Forsyth and Stokes counties since 1960 The College began as the Winston-SalemForsyth County Industrial Education Center offering vocational instruction and training in skilled trades Today as Forsyth Technical Community College they still offer those programs as well as college transfer and two-year degree programs corporate training continuing education personal enrichment classes and much more The mission of Forsyth Technical Community College is to provide students with guided educational pathways into a competitive workforce for the community and global economy

THE POSITION AND QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND CHARACTERISTICS As the Chief Executive Officer the President works in close collaboration not only with the Board of Trustees but also with a wide range of internal and external constituencies to provide overall leadership and direction for the College The President is expected to foster and build upon the existing strengths and traditions of the College while also leading and implementing a strategic vision to ensure the Collegersquos relevance vitality and viability into the future

The President is expected to lead and steward the Collegersquos academic human physical financial and technology resources to improve the quality of life and economic well-being of Winston-Salem Forsyth and Stokes County residents and beyond by providing access to a quality learning environment that advances student success

The President is responsible for providing strong decisive and energetic leadership in meeting the Collegersquos commitment to student access learning success and completion The President is charged with institutional leadership and the implementation of Board policies and corresponding organizational procedures The President serves under contract and establishes strategic and annual goals all of which are approved by the Board

Responsibilities

bull Work with the Board of Trustees and its committees to formulate plans and policies for Board consideration approval and implementation

bull Bring an understanding of regional workforce education and customized training needs and how to strategically position Forsyth Technical Community College in a highly competitive post-secondary education marketplace

bull Demonstrate ability to constantly review and lead an institution that is comprised of diverse campuses that meet specific needs in the communities served recognizing the educational

requirements in each community and aligning resources and support to achieve those needs bull Lead in the design of process improvements to assure policies and best practices are

serving students and their completion bull Strive for the highest levels of achievement in cooperation with the faculty staff alumni and

students in all curricular and co-curricular activities bull Foster the highest levels of academic excellence in cooperation with the faculty staff

alumni and students by overseeing a robust range of academic programs to meet the professional and transfer goals of the student body

bull Provide executive leadership in the development and achievement of a college strategic plan and strategic student success initiatives to meet the needs of the students and the community

bull Advocate for College funding and policy while maintaining effective and harmonious relationships with the County commissioners the General Assembly the Governorrsquos Office state and federal agencies and the general public

bull Embrace a prominent and sustained role in fundraising and oversee solicitations of private donors and public and private entities as well as the expansion of the Collegersquos resource base including operating funds additions to endowments and gifts for facilities grants

and contracts bull Support and further the Collegersquos many areas of community service especially within Forsyth

and Stokes counties bull Recruit and develop a strong and engaged leadership team along with a college culture

committed to implementing the strategic plan and provide sound college administration including financial facilities human resources and quality controls

bull Assume fiscal responsibility for and oversee the financial operations of the College bull Continually assess the Collegersquos ongoing needs in the area of technology and position the

College as a leader in the utilization of technology in education bull Serve as an advocate for higher education at national and state levels bull Promote an evidence-based culture of accountability which guides innovation implementation

of best practices and continuous quality improvement of instruction and student support services bull Develop strategic partnerships that further the Collegersquos goals and objectives bull Provide overall leadership for and ensure the ongoing maintenance of the Collegersquos

accreditation process bull Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion and provide leadership as the College

meets the educational needs of a diverse and changing community bull Represent the College to the community by promoting positive relationships and open

communications with all constituencies build and strengthen cooperative partnerships with local schools businesses industries and government to provide hands-on opportunities and internships and develop positive public relations in the counties served

Performance Objectives

The President shall meet with the Board of Trustees to discuss and establish annual performance objectives These objectives shall be based on the responsibilities set forth in the job description as well as the Collegersquos strategic goals Per Board policy the President will annually report to the Board of Trustees on the achievement of these objectives

In addition to strong leadership characteristics that are required the President is expected to

bull Articulate a clear academic and organizational vision for the College and its various units that define its place among other institutions of higher learning

bull Be entrepreneurial creative and persuasive in the pursuit of that vision and demonstrate the ability to initiate and implement innovative strategic change in collaboration with the

Board of Trustees bull Demonstrate an inclusive sensitive and humanistic style of leadership that exhibits courage

and imagination in dealing with conflict and an ability to build bridges among potentially competing interests and differing points of view

bull Communicate openly and respectfully with all the Collegersquos constituencies ndash including students faculty alumni administration staff the surrounding communities and the Board of

Qualifications

bull An earned terminal degree from an accredited institution preferred bull A minimum of five (5) years of senior level administrative experience in a community college

or four-year institution preferred bull Some teaching experience preferred bull Outstanding interpersonal communication skills as well as success in team building and

participatory management with diverse groups - Committed to diversity and achieving a climate that promotes inclusion - Clear understanding of and leadership in both instructional and non-instructional uses of technology - Innovative energetic visionary and creative leader who understands the community
